Cannabis: The Forbidden Medicine
As time goes on, peoples outlook on many different things develop and evolve. From the beginning of time, there has always been things that we did not understand; from fire and weather, to ourselves and our universe. We have conquered many obstacles in our existence to find the answers to problems that humanity faces. People have studied hard and learned more than we ever could have imagined, but there will always be more to learn. Until recently, very few facts have been known about Cannabis. Ideas of the plant have been based simply on the opinions of people in high positions of society. People have a history of being afraid of what we do not know, and forming opinions and principles based on that fear. It is time to take a realistic approach and find out what we are truly dealing with. Through exploring the history,

For the past eighty years or so, there has been a prohibition on Cannabis equivalent to that of the prohibition of alcohol. “Although evidence shows that Marijuana is, by most measures safer than alcohol for the vast majority of adults, evidence also suggests that both Marijuana and alcohol can adversely affect brain development in minors” (Nathan). Cannabis also can impair a person’s motor skills and good judgement, but nowhere near the impairing effects of alcohol. Although the effects that both substances have on one’s motor skills can be impairing, Cannabis is far milder in this respect. And yet, alcohol can be purchased at convenience stores and super markets. The same rules that apply to the sale of alcohol can easily be applied to the sale of Cannabis and benefit the government with the revenue from taxation boosting the economy. With the use of Cannabis, there also comes a lack of motivation. This can be frustrating but is ultimately the decision of the user the same way that it is an alcohol user’s decision to get
Marijuana, like any allegory, has its valid characteristics, authenticity, and biography camouflaged by a magnitude of misjudgment, venality, and misconception. Although, marijuana was dimmed legal in several states, the fight to control how it’s used, recreationally or medically is another discussion. Personally, I feel the benefits of using cannabis outweigh the risks, and if an individual want to indulge in it, who are we to deny
Additionally, legalization will decrease the burden on an already over taxed criminal justice system and will alleviate related property and violent crime in society. This difference of legality between the states of the union and the federal government has created an untenable situation that cannot last. Conversely, the common arguments against legalization, tend to focus on the increased availability to youth or a common belief, that allowing marijuana use to be legal will cause a drastic increase in crime rates. These fears are simply unfounded; voters and legislators alike need to look at the issue of marijuana from a more pragmatic standpoint. Realizing that cannabis is no more dangerous to use than alcohol and that marijuana offers an incredible opportunity for generating revenue, to this point only employed by deviant elements of society. Much like the prohibition era of the 1930s, we learned that outlawing alcoholic beverages did not make the populace safer; conversely, it put them in more danger since the product’s quality was always questionable and enforcement was costly and dangerous. Now people are more likely to use alcohol responsibly due in part to the education of the dangers rather than just being
Everyone has an opinion on the reoccurring subject of cannabis legalization. Some people are against cannabis just because it is against the law. While others believe cannabis usage goes along with free will and that the government has no right to interfere. Some say marijuana is a gateway drug, leading to the use of more serious drugs. Still, a percentage of the population believes hemp is okay and legal growing in the U.S. could benefit our economy, with an abundance of uses that would be a better choice for the environment and our health, than other options we currently seek. There are many reasons that people want cannabis legalized, and many fears for which they don’t. Whatever the opinion, people need to
Many people have different views on its, these views usually vary upon how it is used, why it is being used, and how much is being used. Who is using it is also very important and why they are taking it.. This is going to show many different standpoints so that one can make their own conclusions on it. The first, will be history,so that the background on Cannabis can be seen, Next, science will come into play, so that the biology and the science behind it itself can be seen. Than, this will move on to Theology, and what the Church has to say about it. After that, this will show what other people have to say about it. Finally, this will conclude with the math factor, involving the statistics of it and it verses tobacco products. Society should not always have negative views on things, and if they are educated on it that it will help them come to a better conclusion that they can back up with facts and
The plant Cannabis Sativa, also known as Marijuana, weed, ganja, or hemp, has been linked to cure some types of cancers and neurological defects. According to A. Douglas Kinghorn and Manuel F. Balandrin; Cannabinoids, which are found in marijuana, are being developed for the use in Glaucoma and neurological disorders, such as epilepsy (Balandrin, 1992). How is something that can positively impact our lives, be illegal to use?
The legalization of marijuana has been a highly debated topic for many of years. Since the first president to the most recent, our nation’s leaders have consumed the plant known as weed. With such influential figures openly using this drug why is it so frowned upon? Marijuana is considered a gateway drug, a menace to society, and mentally harmful to its consumers. For some people weed brings a sense of anxiety, dizziness, or unsettling feeling. Like alcohol, tobacco or any other drug, those chemicals may not respond well with their body. For other people marijuana brings joy, a sense of relief, and takes the edge off of every day stress. For those who are associated with cannabis, purposes usually range from a relaxant, or cash crop, to
Marijuana, the gate way drug. Everyone thinks it's only bad, that it only leads to bad stuff. There are two sides of cannabis, medical and recreational. Medical isn't the good and recreational isn't the bad, it's how they're used. And they can both be used for good. Mentioned in a Chinese herbal dating from 2700 before Christ, marijuana has long been considered valuable as an analgesic, and anesthetic, and anti-depressant, an antibiotic, and a sedative. To understand the use of marijuana one must know the affects, the causes, and what it can do as treatments.
Cannabis has broke out of the cuffs, that this society chained on it, showing its significance to some, but the others has not yet come to the conclusion of the truth. Cannabis can be evil if it’s misused; But what about the people that can benefit from the use of cannabis? Many are quick to judge the calm setting vibe that you can get with cannabis, yet not realizing that the same vibe can make a person’s life easier. No, not the “I have mommy and daddy issues” , but people with life threatening illnesses. Society wants to put the label “Bad” or “Evil” on a plant that could do more then get you high.
I am glad that the textbook dedicated a decent portion of this chapter to cannabis. In our country today, this is a very hot topic that results in quite a few heated debates. Marijuana is obviously very widely used, and it is easily accessible. One of the biggest debates on marijuana use is that of the health dangers and the addictive qualities of it. The textbook talks about cannabis use disorder. The number of people in today’s society that have this disorder is significantly higher than that of the early 1970s. One of the main reasons for this is that the THC is much more potent because it is grown in hotter and drier climates today.
“Everything on the earth has a purpose, every disease an herb to cure it.” Native American Proverb
The position the author uses is that he believes that recreational marijuana should not be legalize. He is very clear about how he thinks that legalizing marijuana will bring more felons to start selling more drugs legally. He feels that nothing good can come up from legalizing this recreational drug. He is very strong with hi position.
In my research, I wish to explore facts about the harmful aftermath about smoking marijuana, and it is not as beneficial as it sounds. Forms of marijuana were once used as medical treatments, and because of people’s abused usage of it, marijuana was banned. My intention is to inform audiences that although this narcotic drug is often being glorified, it could still be harmful because of the effects it has on a person’s state of mind. The claim of this research will be evaluation and ethical, since I’m arguing whether marijuana does damages to the human body, and ultimately, revaluating the purpose of marijuana usage. Some people think that smoking marijuana is completely harmless, and maybe even beneficial. Meanwhile on the other hand, other people hold opposing opinion, which is that marijuana will cause harm to the human body because the effects that alternate cognitive functions.
In making a case for the medical use of marijuana, I am not saying that all drugs should be legal and that advances in the medical use of marijuana is the first step towards everything being legal. But my argument will do more than prove that one particular industrial chemical has certain toxic properties. In this article, I will also talk about the positives of medical marijuana use, and why its medical uses separates it from other, more harmful drugs. My point about the national obsessions with sports reinforces the belief held by many scholars that students should learn how to think and communicate in an intellectual manner about topics that interest them like sports before thinking intellectually about topics that do not interest them,
Cannabis is becoming increasingly widespread and increasingly common in modern-day society for both recreational use and for medication. The article by Craig Reinarman, ‘Criminalisation, legalisation and the mixed blessing of medicalisation in the USA’ generates many controversial issues of cannabis.
Within today’s society, Cannabis is seen as a harmful substance of such negative controversy. Marijuana is a very prominent and controversial issue in society today. Despite many malicious allegations have been made regarding marijuana today, the truth of what marijuana’s real dangers are are beginning to come about again. Sadly, these facts have been held under considerable judgement because of what people stereotype a pot smoker as. This has been brought under heavy criticism due to the stereotypical view of what people view as the typical “pot smoker.” This image society has of a lazy and unambitious America has all been the result of almost one hundred years of false propaganda and stereotypes gossiped by certain private individuals trying to keep weed illegal for their own personal benefit.
