My personal interest in this controversial topic
Since Middle School, I was not opposed to standardized testing. I thought of it as a way of testing us of what we have learned. Although, after reading some articles about standardized testing I am re-thinking the pros and cons. From personal experience, I thought of it as a challenge to pass them. But now that reminisce about it, I noticed some of the cons of standardized testing. I remember having a week or two dedicated for testing, and in case of students failing they had to take time to redo it. It would take a while for all the students to finish their tests. And after remembering how it was back in those times I was more on the opposed side.
The act signed in 2002, NCLB, caused for a

Parents oppose the standardized tests because they can cause stress and anxiety to their children. Students disagree with many tests because it can cost them admission to a university, or passing to the next grade. Teachers oppose the tests because it takes too much time. They have to teach their students what is going to be on the test. Also, the schools and teachers lose funding depending on the results.
What warrants (assumptions) will you imply or state? Why?
First, I will state that standardized testing is not helping education in the United States. This will be stated first because it will clarify my topic.
Secondly, I will imply that there are other ways education in the United States could improve without the use of standardized testing.
Can you maintain an open mind and reverse your views if you come across information you hadn’t anticipated?
If I find, research about why standardized testing has helped improve the education in the United States; and, if there is information on how it has helped students progress over time. I would be open to information that could counter my claims.
What qualifiers will you include in your claim to make it more reasonable and manageable?
One qualifier I will use is standardized testing improving the US education? This will qualify the US education. Also using qualifiers like there are many students that are opposed to standardized testing. I will also be using some teachers and parents also oppose
Currently, standardized tests do not improve the education of students in America. Standardized testing is not an accurate measure of student’s knowledge because they are designed to test an extremely broad amount of students who do not have the same educational background. This makes it incredibly difficult to test students across the world on the same level and expect their scores to reflect their education. Standardized testing, by definition, is any test containing the same questions that is administered to a vast group of people for the purpose of comparing different student’s test scores. This issue is important because it affects the entire academic community, positively and negatively. Therefore, all teachers, students, school staff, and test administrators have some involvement with standardized testing. The vast majority of people in America have taken a standardized test sometime in their life, which makes these tests vital in the
To many students standardized testing has become another part of schooling that is dreaded. Standardized testing has been a part of school since the nineteen-thirties; in those days it was used as a way to measure students that had special needs. Since the time that standardized test have been in American schools there has been many programs that have placed an importance on the idea of standardized testing such as the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (Evans 1). Over the years the importance of standardized testing has increased tremendously and so has the stakes, not only for teachers but also students. All states in the United States of America have state test in order to measure how much students learn, and help tell how well the
When people think of the education system, most can say that there are some problems, though they might not be able to pinpoint what needs to change first. If you ask most teachers, they will say that the first thing that needs to be changed in the schooling system to help the students more is the standardized testing. They will say that while it can be helpful it has a lot of faults and needs to be updated or changed to help its students. Standardized testing has often been a topic for discussion, between parents and people in the schooling system. It seems that a lot of people either hate standardized testing for not giving every child a chance to succeed, or love it for being a fair way to test whether a child knows what they need to know at their age. There have been many articles, books, and documentary’s debating on whether or not standardized testing is doing more harm then good. There was a comic made that shows the brutality and bluntness of what standardized testing is really like. Standardized Testing causes too much stress by putting unfair expectations on teens and doesn’t give every single student the chance to succeed.
My first reason standardized tests are not a good idea is that they overpopulate the schools. Texas takes 15 and Indiana takes 5. The tests take away time from learning more about a subject. Our country as a whole takes way to many standardized tests. standardized tests are overpopulating schools and not letting kids learn more parts of the subjects.
Standardized testing is harmful because it takes up a lot of time, it stresses kids out, and some people just aren’t test takers. My first reason is that it takes up to much time. We are using 2.3 percent of every class taking standardized testing, So if you take 2.3 percent of all our classes everyday for a
Every year students are under the pressure of proving to the state of California their skills. Today it seems that standardized testing is the main focus in public education. Some believe it can detect the abilities of a student. Others think testing does nothing to prove a child understands the academic content. Testing is not correct at detecting students ability to apply their knowledge. Also, it only benefits students that are good at testing, so it sets the rest up to fail.
I hope to prove that standardized testing is not the way to learn about the child's capability of learning or comprehension. I believe that too many tests are standardizing because it's only beneficial to the schools for their gain in state funding. Being a teacher myself, I see often day in; day out. Students have different learning styles and different teaching techniques that one must apply to reach them, and to do so we must go outside the box. So although, standardized testing may be good for some of students we cannot place others on the same plateau. Some of them that lack that basic concentration for a normalized test, and can be missed judged because if the test would be administered in a way to achieve full
At the beginning of the school system, many changes have been made. Standardized testing, however, is a part of the school system that has not been changed in very many ways, and has very many problems with it. With the many problems that standardized testing has, it should be removed from the school system all together.
Throughout America, the opposition to standardized tests is increasing due to the negative effects they are having on bright young students. These tests are taking these students years of hard work and basically throwing down the toilet. It just is not right to have one test that bases how smart a student is, when there are so many other factors that should be looked at. Standardized tests should not be required for college admission because they are an unreliable measure of a student’s performance and are not as important as what was accomplished in the students four years of high
The first piece of evidence I have is that standardized tests don’t measure everything a student knows, so why would we take so much of our time on it. Standerdized Tests are not an objective, and do not measure the students achievement.
On the other hand, people who believe standardized testing doesn’t provide descriptive information, assert that standardized testing doesn't provide all the quality and necessary information to go farther in life, but instead questions students on random facts that they needed to learn in classrooms. In Standardized Tests- Not Standardized Education we find that many individuals claim that, "These tests are not exact measures of what individual students can and cannot do or of everything students learn." Studies of other individuals from other sources state that, "64% of people polled thought that public school education put too much stress on standardized testing that doesn’t make a difference." We are then led to question, "is standardized testing really what we think it is"?
However, the implementation of standardized tests overall is flawed because as test that are not supposed to take up student’s study or homework time, they often still do since the teacher’s value how the school’s performance will reflect on them. Hence, why I believe that standardized tests should be abolished or at the very least reformed. First off, these tests should not determine federal funds for schools or effect graduation as I experienced which will hopefully prevent teachers and schools from feeling the need to put more pressure on student’s and assure that their lessons will not revolve around what is on the test. Standardized tests should also be given more than once over the course of a school year to give a more accurate evaluation on students and show their progress over the year which might also provide better evaluations for teachers. If changes like these are made, I really believe that it would be a win for both you and students across America as these tests will give better evaluations on what you want to know and help bridge the gap how students in lower grade levels are taught versus how they will be taught in higher education
Being a student in today’s day and age is drastically different from the generations before them. Anywhere from how the curriculum is taught, the environment, and the number of subjects a student will learn. With that being said, every student is different in all most all aspects of how they approach school. But the majority can attest to saying that they all hate standardized testing and the week that it brings. Every student knows this week all too well. From having one to two tests a day and then shortly after not being able to function properly on the rest of the school day. Many students will say that they all hate the idea of standardized testing and wish it to be gone. The real question stands though: is standardized testing
I have mixed feelings on standardized testing because of the contraversity that goes on about it. What I do know is it stresses out the children who have to take these test. It stresses out the teachers who have to give this test as well. Teachers can lose their jobs if the children are not scoring high enough on these tests. I think that is unfair because a teacher cannot make a child pass a test it is their own knowledge that can do that. Some children are not good test takers and this causes them to score a little poorly. My personal children have been so nervous about these tests because the teachers have said you have to pass or fail this grade. It made them sick to their stomachs and not want to go to school, and my children love school.
Hello I am writing an essay on the debate about standardize tests being good for children, families, and schools. In this essay, I will list which side I agree with and things stated during the debate. Firstly, I agree with Dylan and Omari’s side. They were against standardized testing. (So am I) In their opening statement, Dylan and Omari stated, “As every year progresses the stress level for standardized tests improves at a significant level”. I agree with their opening statement because, I have experienced this first hand. As I progress in my grade levels, tests have become more and more difficult. I don’t know how others feel about their opening statement, but I feel that was a great and relatable opening statement. They further went on and stated that standardized tests is something that every student from the third grade and above is required to take standardized test all the way through high school. I really love how Dylan and Omari demonstrated the pattern of a student beginning taking standardized tests starts off from taking two test, to taking three, then four, and so on. In which I can understand how standardized testing makes it harder per year. The next topic Dylan and Omari jumped to was what made standardized test even harder. They stated that what makes standardized test harder was the way the curriculum changes. What I gained from what Dylan and Omari stated in terms of the curriculum changes was, it creates a lot of stress for the students who’s taking
