How do our correctional system punish offenders? “There aren't any magic bullets that can end America's continuing battle with crime and addiction”. M, S. (2015). The word punishment is known to be a form of Discipline. In order to better understand the nature of punishment, is to consider the development to morally justify the society infliction of what punishment is and how they present it. “The quality of treatment programs” Ranks, L. (2015) are huge throughout America, this provides effective treatment services to offenders. Depending on the different options across states and communities, the correctional institutions have programs that help with the specific needs of each offender. “Beneficial program” (Ranks, L. (2015) is a community-based treatment. "In some states probation is a centralized function, however, probation is decentralized and is administered by local jurisdictions, such as counties and cities.“(Ranks, L. (2015) Being enrolled in some kind of Educational program has an impact in reducing crime rates by giving offenders a set of skills and a leap of advantages in the work field. Education and work programs gives offenders a secure source of employment in the work field. "Undoubtedly, the prevalence of these programs reflects the abiding belief that education and work skills—and the good habits learned in acquiring these skills—are integral to securing employment and being a productive citizen“. Which method is more effective in reducing crime? I feel that rehabilitating offenders are more effective when reducing crime. This being said, in order to make a difference it must be a great change in the heart and in the mind of many criminals. Even though humanity can’t save all, even a little makes a change in society and the lives of civilians today.
