Public school sports should be a a relief from everyday activities students endure. It should be a time of enjoyment. A time of safety. And a time of acceptance. It should not be associated with negative or dreadful suffering, or another phase students have to go through during their day. With more careful examination of sports and physical education programs, schools will discover by having more consideration of students' physical, mental, and social well being the athletic aspect of schools will be more successful.
To get started, School sports is a need for most students in order to get their mind off school and to have fun. In the text, “Sports Are More Important Than Ever” by Tim O’Shei the author talks about how,
The impact of preserving sports in high schools has been surrounded by much controversy as people suspect that it is the reason behind the poor academic achievement of students. Opponents to high school sports feel that allowing athletics to be a part of schools sidetracks the focus of the student body, which goes completely against the main purpose of schools. Indeed, this assertion is completely true and based upon plentiful evidence. High school sports undoubtedly come at the expense of student academic achievement since they divert the attention of students away from academics and they come with far too many financial costs, both of which incur negative impacts on the academics within a school. The bottomline is that sports are harming the education of students, so a school must make the decision between composing quality sports teams or providing high level academics; both of these choices simply cannot occur simultaneously.
With society’s ever increasing price tag of education, public schools have gone to great lengths to cut costs from the unessential activities during and after school hours. First it was music programs and art classes; however, with the desperate need for teachers, athletic programs have felt the grunt of this expedition. Now, more than ever, youths in our communities are battling serious problems. Not only are sports and organized athletic programs vital to physical development, but also mental growth and offer children structure and goals. Unfortunately, many schools have to cut back or even eliminate sports/athletic programs due to lack of funding.
Catastrophic injury is devastating not only to the injured athlete, but also to the athlete’s family, school and community. The Washington Post indicated that an estimated 800 thousand boys and girls take part in high school sports yearly. This demonstrates how high school sports is a major part of the school extra curricular activity. In Daniel Gould article "Are High School Sports Good For kids?" he found that students who took part in high school sports got educational benefits and extracurricular activities have positive effects on adolescents .Experts may argue that high school sports allow kids to be physical active, but they must also recognize the clear dangers. Playing high school sports come with serious consequences and life altering changes such as physical injuries, peer pressure and psychology effects.
“ Sport is like a war without the killing.” (Ted Turner.) This quote illustrates that in sports everyone competes against each other. Teens are exposed to sports at an early age by their peers and the society. As teens progress into high school, they often participate in high school sports without knowing the negative impacts in the future.
We need to get rid of competitive sports at Monticello Trails Middle School for the greater good.
Why shouldn't homeschooled children be able to play public school sports, what good is it actually doing? People have been debating about this because in some cases they have let children being homeschooled play public school sports but in other cases they don't allow them to play in the sports at a school. The parents think that it is unfair for some children to be able to play in public school sports but not other children. This has been going on since 1996 when a judge in New York denied access for a homeschooler to participate in public school sports. However, both sides seem to get the same amount of support. The people who say that they should be able to play in public school sports argue that they should be able to because they are like
Most parents want their children to be the best they can be; youth sports allow this to happen. Youth sports teach kids important things that they wouldn't be taught in the classroom and most likely won't be taught at home. The teachings in sports are far greater than just how to catch or shoot a ball. Sports teach children how to become great human beings on and off the court or field. Youth sports teach children how to become skilled and passionate adults and how to overcome adversity. I believe that children should play sports all through their youth because it will help decrease childhood obesity, increase social skills, teach character skills, learn that not everyone is a winner, and keep the child out of trouble.
In countries around the world, people are debating whether they should keep athletics in public schools, or ban them. Studies have shown that schools would be better off without sports. Therefore, schools should not have sports to save money, make students’ education a priority, and adapt to their new environment.
Being a student athlete has many ups and downs. This means that athletes do not only have to worry about school but also the sport they are in. It takes time and patience to be in sports. I am currently in basketball; I also play football and baseball. It is very stressful at times because of all the games and practices. I love playing sports because it allows me to be able to make friendships with my teammates. With being in three sports, it is very hard to find a way to make money. Some ways I can make money are babysitting and helping my grandma in ways. It takes time and effort in order to be great at something. Just like this class and many others, I have to put time and effort in them. Likewise, in sports I have to be working in the gym when others are not. Sports have brought joy to my life. Throughout my whole life I have been around sports. I have always enjoyed playing three sports, they have made me to be who I am today. The sports I currently play are football, basketball, and baseball. These sports have impacted my life because they have taught me how to be able to respond to difficult situations and also create close bonds with friends.
Kids in sports should not have to go to p.e. I Think kids should not have to here is 3 reason why kids that are athletes should not have to do p.e..
By this point of the paper it should be obvious to why these teams are hated. Mentioned by a participant “There's only like 4 good teams in the NBA”. So if your team isn't on the list of super team, they’re most likely not going to make it very far in the season. It is now a fact that “You are not competing for a ring without one (Super-team)”. About 20 teams in the NBA are disregarded because their teams don’t hold as much depth, we all agree since when asked this question on the survey, the only answers received were either the Cavs or the Warriors. From an interview a Milwaukee Bucks fan said “I feel sorry Giannis, guy is legit a monster, but I don’t think he’ll be winning a championship without a couple of more super stars on his team”. Giannis Antetokounmpo, is a future MVP and NBA allstars, 6’11, with a 7’0 wingspan with the biggest hands in the NBA is a “monster”, and is respected due to his potential being only 22 and is projected to be the best player ever. But like the previous year he was swept out the playoffs, due to the face that his team cannot play against the other super teams. He can hold his own during the regular season where they probably meet a couple of times, but once they are placed to play them for almost 7 games; 1 person cannot make the
High school is such a bizarre experience. Many have boyfriends/girlfriends, parties, late nights and activities. Activities people participate in can range from spelling bee to volleyball. So with sports, what are the benefits? High school sports can keep teens grades up, teach time management skills, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. All of these things can keep teenagers healthy during school to have a healthy mind and body.
Sports programs have been an integral part of all schools. They support the academics of the school and therefore foster success in life. These programs are educational and help produce productive citizenship. They help students experience and build skills that may help them in their future, like interpersonal and time management skills. Education may kindle the light of knowledge, but sports help to maintain the proper physique. Sports are also an important means of entertainment and a use for energy after long hours of study. Sports increase a student’s performance not only in the classroom but also in their life.
For years, sports have been a part of American high schools. They have been a source of school pride and give people a connection to their school. They break up the otherwise mundane routine of going to class and doing schoolwork. In recent years there has been a huge push by researchers, educators, politicians, and parents to figures out why America’s schools are constantly falling behind other countries in crucial test subjects. One of the latest reasons to blame for the shortcomings of American students is the incorporation of sports in the American school system. Some are beginning to think that the focus of schools is no longer education and that sports are taking on a greater role within schools. It’s
