Whenever I start to talk about my breeding/showing program, people automatically jump to the conclusion that I am a puppy miller. To me that is very hurtful and I take it offensively. A puppy mill is an establishment that breeds puppies to sell, typically on an intensive basis and in conditions regarded as inhumane. Me, as a breeder, I am there to improve the breed and higher the expectations and the breed standards, while letting the dogs live a healthy and happy lifestyle. My family, as most people with the same goals, we only breed once every couple of years. My family and I plan each litter carefully paying attention to genetics, health clearances, and pedigrees of the dogs being bred. Puppy millers are the complete opposite. They breed back to back to back litters, where when the bitch, the female dog, is done with one litter and is breed the next cycle that she has. This not only stresses the dog out, but takes a toll on the dogs body in the long run. And with the lack of attention that they give when they breed, they are most …show more content…
We want to make sure the mother is comfortable and we want to make sure nothing happens to the puppies. When you talk to any puppy miller they probably will say that they sacrifice their time and effort into the breeding of the dogs, but they will probably never talk to you about the long nights of keeping watch over their 5 litters at once. They just leave the mother by themselves and when they realize that the mother had her litter they just check to make sure everything is alive. They don’t care about the individual health of the puppy. I mean there are 6 more where that came from right? But of corse they will check the health of the mother because they don’t want to be out another source of their
Imagine a puppy that’s hungry, scared, thirsty, and overcrowded. This may be what it was like where your puppy came from. Think about going to the pet store, seeing the cute little puppies in the glass, looking back at you in excitement. Some jump with joy; some sleep their little hearts away, tired from meeting so many new people, and others fight over the toy with the puppy next to them. You would never think for a second that where they had been born and spent roughly the first 12 weeks of their lives was in a dreadful environment. These places are Puppy Mills. They are large-scale dog breeding facilities that are usually unsanitary and very overcrowded. They don’t make sure the dogs have adequate food, water, socialization; nor do they ensure
“Puppy mills create misery for dogs and pain for the unwitting purchasers of the animal, and they indirectly deny suitable homes for animals in need.”- Wayne Pacelle (President of the Humane Society of the United States)
“A Closer Look At Puppy Mills” by ASPCA informs you about the psychological effect on the dogs raised at a puppy mill. They can be aggressive and fearful. Some are so fearful, they don’t want to be touched by people or their owners. Even if in a loving environment could show no progression of getting better. The dogs have chances of being born with genetic diseases or abnormalities. For example, heart disease, kidney disease, and eye sight problems. This affects the owner’s cause in the long run because veterinary bills begin to pile up and there is no worse feeling than having an unhealthy or a dog that wants to be nowhere near you. Although there are many problems that come along with puppy mills, there are also positive things that can be involved with them.
The dogs in puppy mills get little to no special attention of any kind (Activists Go Undercover). Investigators found poor puppy mill conditions with dogs infested with ticks. Injured dogs in puppy mills have wounds and are not being treated because mill owners don’t want to pay for medical (Jalonick). Specialist say that "The physical wounds, horrific as they may be, are treatable. Tougher to heal are the psychological ones." about the dogs in puppy mills (Activists Go Undercover). Puppy mills owners never show attention to, care for , or protect the dogs. Also, these dogs have to live in gruesome
(Subpoint) The federal Animal Welfare Act (AWA), passed in 1966, makes it legal to have puppy mills through its vague standards. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is the agency responsible for overseeing the commercial dog breeding industry and enforcing the AWA.
Our message is that people shouldn’t buy dogs from puppy mills but adopt them from a shelter.
There are many places in the world that have puppy mills, but Missouri is the number one state so far known as the top puppy mill sellers. In Missouri there was a case where a woman named Barbara Neubert would slaughter sick cows and feed the dogs raw flesh
Everyone wants a second chance. Giving second chances maybe the highlight of their new life! Many have been abused, hurt, or just dumped off on the road. However, you can give the dogs a second chance by giving them a new family and adopting them. Give them the love that they truly deserve. “Every animal that you adopt is a life saved,”(Kowalski) says Bethany Meissner, of the Washington Humane Society. In puppy mills, conditions are truly horrifying, from being crammed into a cage with three or four dogs to not getting any room to jump, play, or run. Some never actually felt the grass on their paws or even chased a squirrel. By not buying a dog at a store and adopting them and giving them a second chance, you can help not support puppy mills and what they stand by. Puppy mills get their money by selling online or to store, so why not help a life and give a dog a second chance by adopting at your local humane society.
Puppy mills have been notorious for keeping the puppy trade industry alive and as big as it is today. With thousands of puppy mills, both known and under the radar, they provide easy access and cheap puppies to sell at pet stores at inflated prices. While they do keep the business booming and keep pure breeds that may specialize in important roles, they continue to put countless numbers of dogs through terrifying pain. To stop the agonizing torture the lovable pups go through, stricter rules must be applied to these puppy mills, a new license regulation must be used, regular inspections, and awareness of alternative options must be made.
The Dog Town Skate Team exemplifies Houston’s stance that California is both a “place and a state of mind”. Houston details California’s bountiful- indeed, seemingly endless reserve of natural resources- its “loamy soil”, “grazing land for cattle”, gold, and the oil reserves that enriched 1920s Long Beach as well as many other locales- that have both supported native peoples and drawn immigrants to California while subtly developing a similarly golden perspective or outlook within the people. California’s rich biodiversity and vast natural resources morphed within its occupants’ beings into a similarly rich mindset, holding as early as the 16th century that within California- the Amazonian paradise described in Garci Ordonez de Montalvo’s novel,

The plane of our galaxy runs through the puppis. The puppis star pattern appears somewhat jumbled and Puppis contains 50 stars brighter than magnitude. Puppis once combined with its neighbors Carina, Pyxis, and Vela to form a huge constellation. The Puppis shines at magnitude 2.25 from a distance of 1,400 light years. Most of the Puppis sits inside the region which light from galaxies get blocked by intervening dust from the Milky
Those puppies not only miss out on the most important social learning skills, but also have inherited medical conditions due to the close genetic breeding.
Banning dog trade in pet stores is not the correct way to Stop Puppy Mills
