Pull Factors: The factors that attract people are called pull factors. These might provide an incentive for people to leave one place and settle somewhere else. Example- more jobs, better education, higher wages, etc Majority of the people migrate with the intention of a better life that was not previously available to them. To start with, the main causes of migration include economic, political, environmental, and social issues. For example, push factors listed on the documentary Living on One Dollar, showed how people struggled to survive in extreme poverty, poor health conditions, and a lack of education. Another example from Salam Neighbor, showed how a country like Syria became invaded by violence and war, causing its people to flee to another country looking for protection. God Grew Tired of Us demonstrated how a bloody civil war in Sudan caused starvation, dehydration, destruction and genocidal murder for the people who walked away in search of safety. However, pull factors are seen in this same situation when the Lost Boys find access to education, shelter,
People migrate in search of better economic prospects and opportunities. Many move to enjoy a better lifestyle and improve standard of living. A segment migrates from the home country to find a secure place where they can spend lives peacefully. Recently, the increasing pace of globalization has prompted migrant workers to move from one country to another.
Furthermore social values and norms in the home country functions as a pull factor for migrating such as status among friends and family in their own local community.
9. Immigrants choose to migrate to the United States for many reasons such as poverty or blight. Some of these immigrants were forced out of their homes while others simply felt attracted to America for its ideas and freedoms. However, not all immigrants were welcomed like the Irish who held no crafting skills or any skill at all.
There are many reasons why an immigrant decided to leave his or her home. One could be the lack of work or low paying jobs. In a life where most people want to prosper having a lack of work or money to move forward makes it really hard to progress in life. Another could be, that they’re in look for a better future for their children and want to provide the best for them, if they see that a land can offer better this also can be a reason to risk it all. Their government may be run in a way that they don’t like, killings feeling in danger all give a migrant a reason to want to leave so they go to new lands to try to find a better future.
In conclusion, Migration is still a big part of our world because young adults will go off and find their way, foreign exchange students migrate from across the world, and people just travel and have to go where the jobs are or just to be close to family. And some people are forced to move like the joads but most now days choose to move. Migrating today is way easier than back in the dust bowl days. Most people do move at least once in their life, so when you do just be glad you don't have to travel like the
Many cultures search for better opportunities for themselves and their families. These are opportunities such as a higher income, educations, and a safe environment. In most occasions us as human posses the instinct to relocate from a habitat if it demonstrates unfavorable results. During the 1970’s Americans’ began noticing the immigration population rising tremendously after World War II. In the late 1960’s most immigrants came from Europe, however after the 1970’s immigrants were arriving from the Caribbean, Latin America and Asia. The 1965 Immigration Act favored many people with educations and skills.
People cannot simply move to another country because they want to. You have to be coming to join immediate relatives (parents, children, spouses or siblings), to be a student, to do a job, to start a company, to invest money; you have to have a reason that is much more concrete than simply saying “because I want to.” (http://immigration.about.com/)
The majority of migrations shown are from an LDC (low developed country) to an MDC (more developed country) or also known as a core region. Migrations of this kind are so the individual is given a better opportunity with more advanced technology and higher levels of productivity in diverse economies. A viewer can see that four of the twenty migration patterns provided are to the United States. The United States is a more developed country and has better possibilities at obtaining a good job and providing decent health care. Nowadays migration is getting to be one of the dominant characteristics of the modern world since at the present moment that movement of people and migration of citizens from one country to another become a norm. Not surprisingly that such unparallel and extremely high level of migration results in substantial demographic, ethnical and socio-cultural changes in many countries of the world.
Still not all immigrants have the same reasons, some immigrants run way because of fear due to political or economic raisons, countries that are more developed and more advanced into technology and opportunities. Other raisons that some persons immigrate are for the future of their children, more futuristic perspective. They immigrate to give more opportunities to their children to obtain better lives or being in a better environment.
Although Immigration is a complex topic with many different factors, the most common reason for immigration is poverty and the hopes of building a new future elsewhere. In the past migration was largely caused by the fore-mentioned issue of poverty, social strife, war, or other political conflicts. As of today these things are still issues and in some cases political asylum does play part in immigration decisions. Globalization is defined as the tendency for business, technologies, or philosophies to spread throughout the world. Globalization is also a major factor in the decisions made before immigration, often times families and friends will eventually re-unite in one region in order to remain together. Living in a more technical world with an advanced society has brought us to the point we are at today, a nearly global community with more in common than in any century before. With the beginning of modern technology in the 1900’s came a more closely knit world, with more communication than what was seen in the past.
