In addition, the drugs can only be used if there is a legit prescription made by doctors. Pregnant women, teenagers, or people who smoke less than 10 cigarettes per day should not use off-label drugs.
Nortriptyline
Nortriptyline is known as an older anti-depressant drug that helps decrease tobacco withdrawal symptoms. Compared to people who take no medicine to stop smoking, the ones who use Nortriptyline are found to have higher chances of sucessfully quit the harmful habit. The drugs should be used from 10 to 28 days before a person start to quit smoking, as in that way, the body will be able to reach a stable level.

During the process of using the drugs, some people claim to have experienced different side effects, such as fast heart rate, constipation, blurred vision, low blood pressure whenever they stand up, dry mouth, weight gain or loss, or have trouble urinating. Furthermore, once using Nortriptyline, a person’s ability to drive or operate a machinery can be affected. Clonidine
Clonidine is another older drug that helps people quit smoking. It has been approved by the FDA to treat high blood pressure.
If you want to use Clonodine, consult a doctor first. Most common side effects of Clonodine include dizziness, dry mouth, weakness, constipation, drowsiness, unusual tiredness. More severe ones are allergic reactions, a slow heart rate, and very high or very low blood pressure. The drugs can also affect the ability to drive or operate a machinery.
Clonidine can be used 3 days before you quit, or the same day you stop smoking. It can be given a the form of a pill (cartillage) or a skin-patch. It should not be stopped suddenly, as unless the doses are lowered over 2 to 4 days, your blood pressure, agitation, confusion, or tremors will increase significantly.
