Rachel's Monologue

And when I thought my day couldn't possibly get any worse, it did. Right after I sat down in the cafeteria and started eating my lunch, that stupid Phyllis sat down beside me. ¨I can't believe you cried in the middle of class. You are a crybaby,¨ she says. ¨I wouldn't have done it if you could have remembered the sweater was yours. My birthday wouldn't be ruined!¨ I say. ¨I knew it was mine the entire time! Sylvia and I set this up weeks ago! We just wanted to see you embarrass yourself in front of everybody,¨ she replies. That's when I really start to get mad. I take a piece of my hamburger and throw it at her. The lunch lady rushes over, but she doesn't say anything. Phyllis takes the hamburger piece and throws it back at me. ¨Now, who started this?¨ asks the lunch lady. ¨Rachel did. I was just defending myself,¨ remarks Phyllis. I sit quietly and finish my lunch, trying not to cause any more trouble. …show more content…

Price and the lunch lady talking. Maybe she is talking about someone else I keep thinking. I thought they were never going to stop talking, but finally they did. After we got back to the classroom, Mrs. Price called me up to her desk. “Rachel, I cannot believe you started a food fight in the middle of the cafeteria!” she exclaims. I told her all about Phyllis and Sylvia’s plan to embarrass me, and what Phyllis had said about me. All of the sudden, her eyes began to water, and her mouth begins to quiver. She looks as she is going to cry. “Oh Rachel, I am so sorry for the way I treated you!” she says in the most sympathetic voice I had ever heard her use. That was surely the best part of my day. Phyllis and Sylvia both had to go to the principal’s office for the rest of the day! Maybe my birthday wasn’t all bad after
