The story I'm choosing is The Man to Send Rain Clouds by Leslie Marmon Silko. The theme of the story is about the strength of Native American customs and traditions and bridging the gap between Native American customs and Christian customs. The author uses the setting and the mood to surface the theme throughout the story. The Man to Send Rain Clouds helps to set up a recurring theme that Silko will use in many of her other stories.
The short story “The Man to Send Rain Clouds” by Leslie Marmon Silko is a deceptively simple narrative about the death and funeral of an old man of the Laguna Pueblo tribe of Native Americans. Set in the desert southwest of the United States, the story is narrated from an omniscient point of view, and describes the discovery of the old man’s body, the preparation of the body for burial, and the interaction between the family of the dead man and the Catholic priest who lives on the reservation. The author uses very simple language and unsophisticated descriptions to describe an intricate and complex relationship between the Christian culture of the priest and the religious culture of the Pueblo culture. Descriptions of the bleak landscape
The Man to Send Rain Clouds is a short story based on the death of a very old man at the Pueblo Indian reservation. This results to various issues from the conflicting spiritual aspects and Christianity aspects. At the beginning of the story, the body of the old man is identified lying under a cottonwood tree in the indicant reservation. The sheep owned by the old man are scattered in all locations of the arroyo Lavine. The two men who identify the body are Leon and Ken and they manage to bring back the camp where they found the old man’s body. The story focuses on the life of individuals in Laguna, New Mexico. It is written during the 1960s when there was an interest on the indigenous cultures in America. During the period, diverse

When Charlie asks a barber shop owner to move his illegally parked car, the owner laughs at him and just throws him the keys to the car and tells him to move it himself. The whole town takes advantage of Charlie though, not only his friends. In the supermarket a woman asks to cut in front of him inline and then ends up having a cart full of groceries. This is Charlies breaking point. He starts tensing up, you can tell something is happening. All of a sudden he starts talking in a different voice, and finds vagaclean in the woman’s cart that cut in front of him. So to take his anger out on her he gets on the store microphone and announces she has vagaclean in her cart. We learn this new personalities name when he is drowning a young girl in the water fountain who disobeyed him earlier. This entire book highlights both the high and low points in Charlie’s life, and how he changed and has not changed all from his constant value of friendship to his many realizations, based on the one experimental surgery that gave him insight on what life would be like if he was “normal”.
Charlie begins to hang out with Sam and Patrick and is getting in the routine of going to football games and then going out afterwards to celebrate. Afterwhile he catches feelings for Sam and the way he expresses them further deepens our understanding of his depression. Instead of going with the flow and not telling her about the dreams he had about her, he professes his love for her in the form of sharing his dreams and telling her just how he feels. Perhaps, this isn’t all his fault because when Sam tells him that she’s too old for him, he becomes obsessed with his love for her and can’t stop thinking about how perfect she is in his eyes. The only thing this confession has done for him is make his feelings grow and send him in a downward spiral of
Charlie was a man that did not know how to stand up for himself. He allowed his peers to bully him, and treat him like he is worthless. Charlie thinks that if he allows people to laugh at him, and tease him, they will become his friend. He thinks “Its easy to make frends if you let
In 1952, author George Sessions Perry wrote about a small town in central Texas named Rockdale. The article, written for The Saturday Evening Post, dubbed the community “The Town Where it Rains Money.” Perry tells of an Alcoa plant coming to town and drastically changing the community with an influx of money. The manufacturer transformed Rockdale from a small dot that somehow made itself onto a map into a community that saw its population double in less than a decade; with it, brought many jobs.
Charlie’s life was relatively easy until one night changed everything. While reading, Jasper Jones , the town outcast, finds Charlie and leads him to a discovery. Someone in town has been murdered. After Charlie reluctantly agrees to help hide the body so that the blame isn’t unfairly placed on Jasper, he realizes he is involved, and that if he and Jasper don’t find out who the murderer is quickly, they will both be going to jail.
Charlie was faced with many losses throughout the story. For example, he had the surgery that made him intelligent, but he soon regressed to his previous self. Secondly, he also lost a mouse named Algernon, who he raced with at the research hospital. Lastly, Charlie lossed

The way I thought Stormfront (aka blue Rainmaker) was that he’s p much the Rainmaker that stays away while Cloudburst (neon yellow Rainmaker) is more inclined to come along when Acid Storm meets Moonracer

The movie is about an autistic man named Raymon, who is a idiot savant played by Dustin Hoffman and his fast, talking self absorbed, egocentric brother Charlie Babbitt, who is played by Tom Cruise. A egocentric person is a person with the simple recognition that every living thing views the world from a unique, self-oriented perspective(LIFE: Inherently Egocentric written by James Craig Green http://pw2.netcom.com/~zeno7/ego.html).
