Leadership is a term to which no one can develop a true meaning, because it has a different meaning for everyone. Some people consider a leader to be someone who is capable of stepping up and showing others the right path to follow. Throughout the book Lord of the Flies, there were many qualities and characteristics of leadership shown. Especially after a plane crashes with a handful of boys stranded on an island, someone ought to stand up and be the “parent” of the group. Ralph was the best leader of the group and throughout the story. Here you will read how Ralph did this, who in this world can relate, and if it ended in success or failure. During the long and hard days on the island, Ralph stayed content and focused when all around him seemed lost. Jack and his hunters couldn’t stay focused and maintained on track with the tasks that were assigned to them. Instead they focused on hunting pigs, and getting meat eventually turning into hunting for something that was nothing but the fear inside them. Ralph knew in order to get rescued and make it home safe they had to keep the signal fire going. If I were strangled on an island with nothing but a group of friends I would recognize leadership traits, and follow that person in hope of getting rescued. I would trust Ralph and follow him …show more content…
Everyone is not going to succeed in everything, there will be failures and hard times. Ralph went through hard times from boys not listening to fighting for his life. Overall I think he had success in this story. He had great ideas, great dedication, and integrity. The boys left ended up get rescued and home safely. There are many characteristics of a good leader. It takes one person to step up, have a positive attitude, and be confident in themselves to lead to success. In this book, Ralph displayed that, and was the best leader. He was one of the reasons they survived so long, and how the Navy found them after
Leadership can come in many forms, whether that be through a well known figure or simply an everyday person. I managed to see leadership in the novel The Lord Of The Flies (LOTF). Leadership can have many qualities, but the most important qualities of a leader are being mature, responsible, and always sticking to the task at hand. In LOTF Ralph shows these traits, which is why I believed he was the best leader within the novel.
Inner strength is key to being a good leader. It is important to have maturity and enough self confidence to say what you truly believe, even if it’s different to what everyone else feels. In Lord of the Flies, the character Ralph has shown to be very strong. He has confidence in himself but not over confidence. He knows the difference between right and wrong and he will firmly stand on that side. As well as being sensible, he also has that sense of responsibility. He is very pragmatic, and has long term plans and all his decisions as the chief are preparations for the future which shows his maturity. He is a generally a good person and seven chapters into the book, he hasn’t had any change except for the better.
First of all, the most important trait that makes Ralph the best leader is his rational mind. I personally think that a leader should be a respectable and organized person. Ralph demonstrates his leading ability very well by the way he treats
All throughout the story Ralph shows us heroic qualities like: blowing the conch and having all the boys run to him. It shows that the boys look up to him as their hero to get them off the island. Even at at the end when all the boys chased him down trying to kill them. He still lead them all right to the naval officer. Showing us that he is the true hero of the story. At least Ralph stayed moral that meant he could live with himself without the weight of a person's death on his
There are many reasons why Ralph would make a great leader for the boys and the first one is he is very levelheaded with the boys. He is also very responsible with the way to handle things. The text states,”.” This shows that Ralph would make a great leader because he feels that hunting is less important than them getting rescued. Others may argue that it is more important to go hunting so that the boys could get the food and nutrition they need form meat instead of fruit. This is one reason why I think that Ralph would make a very good leader.
Ralph was the better choice for their leader because he believed in form and structure. He wanted the boys to work together so they could be rescued. Ralph attempted to get the boys to build a shelter, gather food, and operate other responsibilities for their survival, but none of the boys were motivated to do any work. In comparison, Jack just wanted to hunt and goof around on the island and ignored Ralph’s rules. Without Ralph’s leadership skills and regulations, the boys would not have survived during their time on the island.
Leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organization. Through the story, the Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, uprising or leadership transpired. Most of the conflict of leadership was between the two main characters, Jack and Ralph. One being the antagonist (Jack) who craved power and the protagonist (Ralph) who fought for survival and respect. In a group, their are people who have better qualities that best suits them for the role of the leader, in this situation, Ralph was the best leader.
In society, there are often people who have strong leadership qualities and understand what it means to be a good leader. Other times, there are people who have strong qualities to lead, but they do not understand how to be a good leader and create a safe and comfortable environment for those following them. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the characters of Ralph and Jack arise as two different leaders who have strong characteristics and they both seek power on the island. The boys become leaders in their own ways, creating individual environments that prioritize different things all while trying to work towards their rescue to get off the island.
Ralph's common sense and ability to recognize what is best for the group as a whole further demonstrates his superior leadership skills. His main focus throughout the book is getting rescued and he puts much emphasis on this. He instructs the boys to make a fire and to keep it burning as a distress signal. When the boys do not share his enthusiasm for getting rescued, he becomes exasperated. "The fire is the most important thing on the island. How can
Ralph isn’t the greatest leader, but he is the best one they have. He is able to give good speeches and listens to others. Piggy and Jack would be decent leaders, but they wouldn’t be as good as Ralph. I think Piggy and Jack make fantastic right-hand men, or in this case right-hand boys, because Piggy is smart and can tell Ralph what to do, and Jack is strict and good at laying down the law. Nevertheless, I think these are the reasons that Ralph would make a great leader but there are still a couple flaws with him too, but not as major flaws as Jack and Piggy
What are some ways to be a leader? This question, posed by many, can be answered in a variety of ways. Whether a president, a dictator, a boss, or even a manager, being a leader can sometimes be a fine line, a “battle,” of sorts, between good and evil to maintain control over a group of people. One of the opening conflicts in “The Lord of the Flies” is between Ralph and Jack. In order to be rescued, the boys felt that they needed a leader to make choices for the group, a “chief.” The boys decide, through a vote by raising their hands, that Ralph will be the chief of the group. Ralph, as the new chief must exercise his leadership skills to save the boys from an uncertain fate on a remote island, but not before antagonist Jack steps in to tear
In a world divided into race, religion and gender, people fail to perceive the true colors underlying a person’s action and who they are as a person. There are two types of people in this world. Those who look to lead and those who show fulfillment at following an order. In The Lord the of Flies, these four types of people are stationed together on a singular island. Through the events that take place, it shows that not everyone can happily coexist together.
Ralph is an effective leader because he cares about the future and getting off the island. He is organized by giving each boy something productive that will help the group. “We’ve got to make smoke up there—or die.” (Golding 61) Ralph also doubts his leader’s abilities and fails at being a leader, for example when he mocks piggy’s asthma. But Ralph learns from his mistakes and try’s to better himself where Jack
Ralph was an ineffective leader because, unlike Jack, he did not promote servant leadership consistently. In other words, Ralph assigned almost all jobs to other boys without helping them to perform their tasks. For example, when he handed over control of the choir to Jack, Ralph suggested that they become hunters. Rather than getting upset at Ralph for trying to dump the important task of hunting onto others, Jack made a responsible decision when confronted with Ralph’s question on what Jack wanted his choir’s role in the tribe to be. Jack said that his choir would, in fact, be hunters, and a handful of scenes later in the book described how Jack lead a hunt. Even after he could have given up the hunt after being pushed aside and tripped up, “Jack came running back and poked about in the undergrowth”(Golding 112). Jack lead his hunters with actions, not
In the beginning of the book, Ralph has a locked position as leader because the boys want order and want to be told what to do because they want to survive. After failed attempts to get off of the island, the boys lose focus on the over all reason they are doing work. Ralph’s vulnerability begins to show, especially when he admits to being scared. Ralph loses his credibility with the boys, which eventually destroys their semi-structured community.
