These two friends as well as many other characters endure both emotional and physical trauma after the discovery of Sarah Byrnes being in a mental hospital due to her abusive father. The eventful tale told by Eric shouldn’t be banned or challenged. Reasons for this include the upbringing of sensitive topics that are discussed from chapter to chapter. This portrayed by Sarah and her father beginning when she was just a child “ Then he said ‘Here’s your pretty little baby for you’, and i looked up and saw the wood stove coming right at my face”(104).the reason behind the first act of attack was for the father to get revenge on …show more content…
Sarah and Eric become friends because they’re “different” compared to the kids they’ve grown up with. As they get older though they realize that it’s not bad to be an outsider because now they have each other “ I hated being fat, but it was worth it not to lose you. And that has to make you something, at least to me,” (199). With both these characters hand in hand it really shows how much having someone in your corner can help. With Eric there for Sarah it helped bring justice to what her father did to her and helped her see there was always a shoulder there to lean on. If teens don’t understand how powerful friendship is in this point of their life it could leave them too vulnerable to people out of the world. People deserve to know what true friendship is and this book perfectly describes one. This is another reason why this book shouldn’t be banned due to the valuable lesson it teaches through every

The theme of accountability is exhibited throughout the novel, Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, in multiple ways. The following paragraphs will provide some of the details that describe this theme in the book.
She would get drunk everyday in order to ease her pain and not think about what happened. When Sarah is drunk she forgets about her responsibilities and she ignores all the help around her. It is known that an individual’s personal relationships coincides with how a person develops and flourishes as a human being. Positive and strong connections allows a personality to grow and prosper, and grants oneself to deliver as an independent person. It is seventeen year old Anna’s personal relationships which feature in Wendy Orr’s novel, Peeling the Onion, that are displayed and explored and are important contributions to the events of said novel. Throughout Peeling the Onion, Anna encounters countless trials and tribulations, after experiencing a car accident that leaves her struggling with immobilising mental and physical injuries. These have a major impact on her growth and resilience, as well as affecting her close

In addition, My Sister’s Keeper was “pulled from classrooms in Clawson (MI) as too racy for middle school students” (“Banned Book Week”). This book deals with real situations that no one would ever imagine themselves in. It is very hard to evaluate whether or not this book is appropriate for the students at the Hebron High School Ninth Grade Campus. However, even though it could be argued that students wouldn’t read anything that they haven’t already been exposed to in context to the drug references or inappropriate language, the emotional aspects of the book are too mature for the age group of the students in the HHS Ninth Grade
Friendship is a bond between two people, who have qualities within each other that each person likes, and each of them accepts each other for who they are. When you have a friendship with someone you trust them and depend on them to have your back. If you can not trust or rely on your friends, they are not worth having because they will turn their back on you someday. With every friendship, there will be disagreements and these could lead to the friendship being broken off all together. In this book and graphic novel strong examples of friendship were shown. In Marvel's, “Civil War” many friendships were created, like Captain America and Storms and some did not survive, such as Iron Man and Captain America's friendship. Also in Mark Twain's,

To summarize, Stevie (main character, girl) goes to this eating disorder treatment camp on the border of the New Mexico desert. Meanwhile medics and therapist watch her daily, at mealtime, accompany her to the bathroom and challenge her to eat foods she is longing to avoid. To explain this camp is 60 days and her dad signed her up, she thinks she is only going to stay for 27 days. On the 27th day, it is the anniversary of her brother’s (Josh) death that she caused, if she planned it right there are only 27 days till she too will end her life. Besides, she has met so many people during her time here, including her therapist (Anna), her treatment team (they're not a big part in the story), Ashlee (Roommate), Brother (Josh), Eden (Girlfriend maybe), Nurses, and other patients. Her treatment team tells her she has anorexia and bulimia, she goes through this schedule to meet with her therapist, and they talk. Nevertheless, she does something extraordinary during her stay and it changes a lot.
A few of the many problems in this world occur because we judge each other based on our differences whether is be, color, size, or shape. An example of one of the biggest differences would be size. Suzanne Britt discussed her view of fat and thin people in a brief essay called, “That Lean and Hungry Look” where she explains how fat people are far better than thin people. She states,“You've got your “together” thin person, your mechanical thin person, your condescending thin person, your tsk-tsk thin person, your efficiency thin person” (Britt 181). Many people in society actually go off of Britts statement, everyone puts fat and thin people into separate categories just because that is the way it has always been. There are many examples of how we see each other in categories, but in the end there's always a fact that disproves it.
Instead of the love that I think she needed and deserved, Jenny Penny only received hate from her husband. The quote “every blow and insult ran from one to the other without a pause or break until she ended up bloodied on the bathroom floor with a shower nozzle forced into her mouth, drowning,” particularly made me feel sympathy towards her. In this quote, the author had vividly described the abuse Jenny Penny receives, forcing me to imagine the suffering – both physically and emotionally – that Jenny Penny went through. I realized that Jenny Penny’s family had failed her. As a child, she grew up lacking family support and stability. Even when she forms a new family with her husband, he fails her too.
Reese has put a significant amount of time into building friendships and relationships with his peers. I reinforced the importance of friendships and I believe that friendships insure a good emotional well-being. Friendships are people to fall back on in times of need. If your teens have good support systems, they will do better academically. WETA (2017) states that Talking and listening play major roles in children's school success.
