In The Hunger Games, rebellion is in the form of one young girl and her actions. The very first act of rebellion by Katniss, is that she hunts in the woods. “Even though trespassing in the woods is illegal and poaching carries the severest of penalties, more people would risk it if they had weapons” (Collins 4). In The Da Vinci Code however, rebellion takes the form of ideas against the Church and Christianity itself. The idea that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene is a rebellious idea to the teachings of Christianity. The novels reveal that the nature of rebellion can be subtle, yet powerful.

The people of Panem could see that Katniss was not an act devised by the Gamemakers for entertainment. She was unapologetic in her humanity and she was not going to sacrifice her beliefs for the games. Katniss was going to win the games for Prim, she loved Rue, and she genuinely cared about Peeta. That she wore the Mockingjay pin made it easy to make her a symbol of the rebellion yet to come.
