In The Hunger Games, rebellion is in the form of one young girl and her actions. The very first act of rebellion by Katniss, is that she hunts in the woods. “Even though trespassing in the woods is illegal and poaching carries the severest of penalties, more people would risk it if they had weapons” (Collins 4). In The Da Vinci Code however, rebellion takes the form of ideas against the Church and Christianity itself. The idea that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene is a rebellious idea to the teachings of Christianity. The novels reveal that the nature of rebellion can be subtle, yet powerful.
In The Hunger Games there are many important symbols that represent rebellion. The use of fire in Cinna’s designs that creates Katniss’ nickname

Then, of course the rebels fed the Capitol endless lies, and the joke was on it” (Collins 42). Katniss is destined to become the Mockingjay and the new symbol of rebellion whether she likes it or not.
The people of Panem could see that Katniss was not an act devised by the Gamemakers for entertainment. She was unapologetic in her humanity and she was not going to sacrifice her beliefs for the games. Katniss was going to win the games for Prim, she loved Rue, and she genuinely cared about Peeta. That she wore the Mockingjay pin made it easy to make her a symbol of the rebellion yet to come.
Throughout Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, the reader is asked to question the teachings of the Catholic Church. As Sauniere tells his granddaughter Sophie, “The Church should not be allowed to tell us what notions we can and can’t entertain” (Brown 267). It is a subtle form of rebellion to challenge Christianity and the Catholic Church, a system that demands absolute obedience and
The boy tribute that is from her district is Peeta Mellark who she knew from long ago. Peeta confessed to the public that he loves her and that begins their friendship. Throughout the games, she watches as tributes are killed and a young girl named Rue is murdered. When this happens, Katniss kills Rue’s attacker. This is the first time that she has ever killed a person, so she takes it very hard. Rue was not only Katniss’s ally but her friend, she was Prim’s age and reminded her of her sister. So, when Rue was killed it struck Katniss deeply. By the end of the games she has come to love Peeta back and it comes down to the two of them. They refuse to kill each other, so they decided to eat berries that are poisonous but the capitol has to have a victor, so the capitol announces that they are both victors. When she did this, it was a direct punch to the capitol and it ignited a spark in the people, that began the process of a revolution. After she returns home, she realizes what her actions caused and that is the real reason that she went there. She was destined to be the Mockingjay, or the leader of the revolution against the capitol. She realizes that she is the only way that the people will unite and fight to
The setting in the Hunger Games is not in the past or present, but in the future. The story takes place in District 12 and in a place called the Arena. District 12 is an old and very run down. It is a very; dull place of mines. The Arena is ;where the Hunger Games take place. It is a dangerous and scary place.
Until page 50 it was a perfect beginning , and I had a good time in reading this pages and a lot of something to learn and something make me feel interest, such as, the deep description of the characters, places, and even food which made me feel the moment and as if I were living with them. Also, the way that the author had depicted how people suffered because of the hanger and poverty. Another thing that I want to notice about is that girl – Katniss – who was the ideal sister and daughter, when she prefers to go to The Hunger Games instead of her sister – Prim- ,and when she takes care of her ill mother. Furthermore, while all the bad things that happened to her and all the responsibilities that placed on her, but it didn't prevented her
Much of the Hunger Games is centered around portraying a certain image, or identity if you will. The capital manipulates the weaknesses in their society and in their people to create an identity of unity and nationalism through the way they present the games to the districts of Panem. This idea of appearing to be one thing but really being another is ingrained in the society of Panem. District 12, in particular, maintains this image of complacency for the sake of survival, and Katniss is no exception to this.
When one loves a person or thing dearly, then they have the tendency to do almost anything they can to protect and save them from whatever harm they come across. Katniss volunteered for the games knowing she was saving her sister from a terrible fate. She made a promise that she would try her best to win the Hunger Games, but her confidence in her own ability to kill another person was minimal. She did not want to get any blood on her hands but knew that in order to win she would be forced to. The author of Genocidal Killer, Crispin Sartwell recognized situations like these when he said, “your goodness, like mine, has little to do with who you are and everything to do with the social conditions you find yourself in” (Sartwell). The circumstance Katniss found herself in was full of violence, pain, and ruthlessness which further contributed to the tainting of her
Upon watching the movie “The Hunger Games” from a sociological perspective, I learned that many of the things that we have gone over in this online sociology course were incorporated heavily into what is perhaps one of my personal favorite movies of all time. Things like social status, culture, heritage, gender, and more were all used throughout the film in order to portray a realistic and believable setting for the viewer from a social perspective. Probably the most important sociological themes explored in this movie were the struggle to maintain a high ranking social status amongst surrounding humans, the pre-perceived idea of what you were and weren’t allowed to do legally speaking based on your district, and most importantly, how humans can ultimately make life or death decisions based on the value or benefit of a certain person to the group.
In the novel “The Hunger Games” Suzanne Collins conveys the qualities of a hero through the main character Katniss Everdeen. The novel is based around a dystopian nation, in which is placed in Panem. Through which a boy and a girl from each district must take part in ‘The Hunger Games’ where they have to fight to the death, until there is one survivor. Katniss subsequently evolves as a significant hero portraying the heroic qualities such as selflessness, identity change and intelligence. Selflessness is shown as she puts others before herself, her identity changes as she has to put up a brave face, and intelligence is displayed as her strategies progress in the games.
During the game Katniss have to pretend that she loves Peeta, but inside she knows that her real love was Gale and that he was waiting for her. It was hard for all of them because Gale was outside seeing how Peeta kiss his girlfriend, and for Peeta because he knows that Katniss was in love with another boy and not of him, and to Katniss because maybe she was with Gale, but passing time with Peeta and look how he tries to saved her life make her get confused about her feelings so she focused in what is good for her, and not of what she real want.
“We had to save you because you're the Mockingjay, Katniss, says Plutarch. While you live, the revolution lives” (Collins). Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games is a complex character who epitomizes the archetype of a hero, however, she also shatters the mold by rebelling against the capital and endangering her whole family. She starts out as a hero to her family, especially her sister, and then becomes the symbol of strength to everyone. Katniss sacrifices herself by volunteering to join the Hunger Games in place of her sister, it is a game of survival where a boy and a girl from each district are forced to fight the other members of other districts to the death. By going out of her ordinary world and preparing to join a game where her life could be taken, she fits right into the archetype of a hero. Her bow and arrow, the weapon that only she can wield, will be the only things to help her survive. Despite these heroic qualities, Katniss makes an erroneous decision and blunder mistakes that shows the reader the flip side of Katniss.
The Hunger Game film is an emotional series that resemble a severe caste system setting. The plot showcases a transformation of an unfortunate girl becoming a beacon of hope for the rebellion. By doing this, the movie revolves around three themes which are backed by theories and models in sociology which include opportunity, explained by the Status Theory, conflict, explained by Karl Max and Max Weber, and interaction, represented by the Dramaturgical Model.
How little chance we would stand of surviving another rebellion. Whatever words they use, the real message is clear. Look how we take your children and sacrifice them and there's nothing you can do. If you lift a finger, we will destroy every last one of you. Just as we did in District Thirteen." (pg:18).The games are a symbol of fear that the capital has of the twelve districts rebelling against them once again. The capital also uses it to create fear in the districts to not rebel. “these killer wasps were spawned in a lab and strategically placed...I suppose, just like the Hunger Games.”(pg:80) .Like the mockingjay the tracker jacker is yet another mutant that the capitol had created to keep the districts in check. They also represent the Capitol's willingness to do everything and anything to maintain their power over every citizen in the twelve districts. Now lets move on to how Collins uses her character,Katniss Everdeen as a symbol of rebellion. In the story the author reffres to Katniss as the girl on
The symbol of the Mockingjay is referred to multiple times. It is the symbol of the rebellion of the districts across Panem. It is the mark of the rebels, the ones trying to overthrow the Capitol. Katniss Everdeen is said to be the “Mockingjay”, the spark of the rebellion. But why?
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins has many characteristics of a dystopian society. Propaganda is used throughout the book to control the citizens of society. The people of the twelve districts have their Information, independent thought, and freedom restricted. The type of dystopian control present is corporate control.
The time period in which this novel takes place is around the perspective times of the enlightenment. This is when people began to traverse theories outside of the church which at the time was exiled amongst the community and law, including if you were caught doing anything against the law including speaking publicly against the church. This was enforced due to the fathers of reasoning such as Galileo, who spoke freely about how God gave Man reasoning and common sense in order to analyze the world in which we thrive. These ideals spread
The Golden Compass, by Philip Pullman, has been a controversial book that has been criticized and even banned by many religious groups such as the Catholic Church and religious right groups. Pullman undermines religion in The Golden Compass through his characters’ beliefs and actions which demonstrate that the church is controlled by people who are corrupt and will do anything to maintain power including lying, kidnapping, inhumane experimentation, and even murder.
