Recycling is the process of collecting used materials, commonly known as waste, and creating new products to prevent the waste of potentially useful materials. Over the years, businesses started to associate themselves with recycling and being environmentally friendly. However, large coffee corporations do not feel like they need to abide their rules and regulations. Claiming to recycle paper cups allows them to maintain good relations in the public’s eye, but this is not what actually happens behind the scenes. As a result of that, the recycling of paper cups should be more regulated.

However, that should not be applicable for these corporations to neglect the recycling process. Pollution is increasing and coffee shops are held accountable for that by selling those cups. Other stakeholders such as NGOs feel that these shops are obligated to provide solutions and be more regulated. NGOs are very important stakeholders because they can put pressure on governments to change policies resulting in more difficult business regulations. So, it is better for them to regulate their paper cup recycling themselves than for the government doing it for them. Finally, addressing social problems can become financial opportunities such as charging an additional fee for every paper cup purchased to cover up the extra cost of recycling.
Ultimately, the recycling of paper cups should be more regulated and that is due to the CSR that each organization should have. By doing so, the pollution would decrease and other stakeholders will be satisfied.

Recently people have become more and more conscious of what they put into their bodies and where it comes from. An unprecedented amount of information is now readily available to most Americans with the advent of the Internet. This has resulted in a great increase in transparency of the many aspects of imported products. Consequently, programs have been established to help ensure that these products are produced in more ethical and humane ways. To many Americans, the Fair Trade labeled bags of coffee they purchase that give them the energy they need to go about their day in addition to being a socially conscious decision but to many it is a means for survival and an escape from a cycle of debt that traps many similar non-Fair Trade growers generation after generation
Recycling and composing initiatives should be adopted and put into practice in communities throughout the United States. Recycling helps improve the enviorment we live in.By recycling we can make the enviorment a much neater place. In fact recycling can help save money.
And in addition to expanding the areas that are able to recycle the materials Starbucks' cups are made out of, the next biggest step is getting consumers to switch up their habits of tossing the cup in the garbage bin to tossing it in the recycle
Plastic pollution is one of today’s most pressing problems, and minimizing the use of straws is a feasible and realistic step in the right direction. Although the problem of pollution is widely understood, the extent of the damage by plastic straws is not as known or acknowledged. Education of children and adults is an integral component of shifting cultural norms and mindsets. With a more informed population, people will be more likely to refuse and forgo plastic utensils. Furthermore, businesses and influential icons play a vital role in this opportunity. Some restaurants give out both a cup and straw as a mere convenience and a no-straw policy implementation in such businesses can make a big difference. By initially targeting coastal areas of the United States to adopt eco-friendly methods, eventually this transition could inspire a nation-wide law to ban plastic straws to globally shift society-environment interactions to sustainability. While eliminating plastic straws entirely is ideal, it is difficult to make an abrupt shift; an attainable solution is to gradually switch to bio-degradable and eco-friendly straws like glass, metal,
Climate change and environmental sustainability has become one of the most prevalent issues within corporate systems. Waste reduction is an important aspect of environmental sustainability that all organizations should consider. The restaurant and bar industries significantly contribute to waste production as they use a great deal of single-use plastic items. One of the most wasteful, and most futile, plastics that are used in restaurants and bars are straws. Many establishments throughout Canada have already sworn off straws which enables them to reduce waste while simultaneously saving money. This proposal will identify the positive impact that reducing or discontinuing the use of straws and other disposable plastics within The
The organization further strengthens its daily sustainable products procurement policy while improving its offer ecological service by adopting solutions in waste disposal and optimizing energy consumption: in just one year, Staples recycled over 63 million ink cartridges (only in the US). Moreover, the company has worked hard to develop over 8000 products with positive environmental characteristics. Staples understands that a successful business is not just about its turnover and profits. It must therefore ensure that all of its employees, suppliers and partners comply with ethical and environmental
Technically, coffee cups are recyclable but, it is hard to do so due to the complicated way they are produced. The difficulty of recycling coffee cups is also increased by the fact that they are contaminated with whatever drink it was used to hold. In order to hold liquids, coffee cups must be lined with a thin layer of plastic. When these plastics gradually break down, they create micro-plastics that may be ingested by animals, and chemicals that may be toxic to certain animals including us. These disposable cups are usually made from virgin paper, meaning that trees must be cut down to produce something that is only used for the amount of time it takes to drink a cup of coffee.
Approximately, how many customers do you see in there? It is said that about 15% of the Canadian population visit Tim Horton’s every day. Fresh Facts | Corporate. (2016, July 06). A majority of them probably in there buying a cup of coffee, which means that millions of coffee cups are being used each day. We have a slight problem. Yes, Tim Horton’s cups are recyclable, but it’s only accepted at certain locations. Can the Tim Hortons cup be recycled? (2016, March 18). An article from CBC news stated that Tim Horton's coffee cups were being lined with either wax or plastic preventing the cups to be recycled everywhere but specific blue bins. News, C. (2016, June 21). When you finish your double-double, don't toss your cup in the recycling bin, I think that Tim Horton’s should change up their packaging by eliminating the plastic and wax they placed on their cups and making it environmentally friendly. Including the plastic lids, they use for the cups. I would also make it my first priority to put recycling bins in more areas, because right now, since there are not many blue bins consumers are throwing their cups in the garbage can and that eventually lands up in landfills. If there were more blue bins, Customers will most likely throw their cups in the recycling
Paper recycling, on the other hand has been around for much longer. Pulp and paper plants in Canada have been using recycled material for more than 60 years (Bourdages, 1993, para. 4). One of the most obvious environmental benefits of using recycled paper materials, is that it will help to reduce the amount of trees being cut down for production of new paper. Overall, it is evident that there is an established recycling effort in Canada, featuring both positive and negative aspects.
Over the years, recycling has been apart of the american community, but recycling has been costly and has been causing more pollution to the united states than recycling it self. I think that the recycling in the united states should be abolished because, the pollution produced by the collection trucks and the recycling process itself creates more emissions and it’s more expensive and takes more energy and water to recycle old paper than to cut down and process pine trees and then plant pine seedlings.
We can’t only blame the consumers for the things occurring in our world. If less plastic packaging were used and more paper or glass packaging were used it would really benefit the world. Looking at plastic water bottles many say that they are recycled or reusable but they aren’t always
Additionally, a disposable cup is often served with a styrene lid and a holder, both of which may be small but quickly add to a greater carbon footprint. (Borg) Buying a daily cup of coffee in a disposable cup creates 23 pounds of waste a year that could easily be avoided by having customers bring their own cup (Borg). Furthermore, disposable cups vary in environmental impact. According to the Environmental Protection agency, Styrofoam has no biodegradable properties and will never decompose. (Spitzer) This means a cup in the landfill will exist in 500 years much as it does today. Most paper cups are lined with a plastic resin to keep beverages warm, however this prevents the ability to recycle them. Although Starbucks’ cups are 10% recyclable, the FDA has strict guidelines around used material in conjunction with hot liquids resulting in most cups requiring virgin paper, (i.e. trees), for manufacturing, that are bleached and chemically treated. Based on research by the Environmental Defense Fund regarding the production and shipping of coffee cups, 7 trillion BTU’s of energy are used, that which could power 77 thousand homes, 6 billion gallons of water are used which could fill 9000 Olympic sized pools, and 4 billion pounds of C02 released into the

Proper marketing and understanding of the consumer needs have always been strong suites of the print industry and could be carried over into a new consumer need, sustainability. Corporations and consumers are now paying closer attention to companies and their actions as it pertains to environmental impact. One area where the industry has adapted well is providing the consumer with substrates that reduce, or enable recycling or re-use. When it comes to how corporations regulating environmental issues, the print industry has not quite caught up. Corporations are looking at greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants often involved in the industry. This being said, companies in the industry are beginning to ask
We know that nowadays plastic is the one materials that widely used by human in all of the country. Most of our goods become from plastic. The bad news is, plastics wastes that come from our unusable goods end up in the oceans. There are 60% to 80% plastic wastes on the sea are coming from the land and it will cause a big problem to 267 sea species in this world (Moore, Lattin, & Zellers). That one example is more than enough to start recycling our plastic waste. We can start from reduce and reuse first. For reduce example: when we buy something, we should prepare our own bag to put the goods we buy, dispose the waste according to the bin that specially provided for plastic, use a refill bottle for our drink bottle, and prefer a paper bag than plastic bag. How about reuse plastic bag? Some of countries have creative company that selling fine art and use plastic waste as the basic materials. One of the countries that have company like that is Indonesia. Indonesia has a lot of home industry that use plastic waste as their main materials. They make new thing from plastic bottle, such as plastic flower art, windmill toys for children, table lamp, and house accessories. Some schools in Indonesia teach the students how to reuse the plastic waste and make a fine art from it. Reduce and reuse the plastic waste already counted as recycling the plastic waste. Never think
