There were five massive discoveries that the rover Curiosity made. In August 200 the rover landed on Mars and been exploring the red planet since, but the robot has racked up quite a string of accomplishments while been on the red planet. For examples, when the rover first touched down on the red planet, it had a dramatic “seven minutes terror” when it touched down. This showed a successfully demonstrated a new technique that would help land the large payload of deliveries with unprecedented precision and successfully helping to pave a way for human outposts on the Red Planet. The rover was launched in order to determine whether the Gale Crater landing site has ever been able to support microbial life, the car sized rover successfully answered that question within seven months into the 2 …show more content…
"We have found a habitable environment that is so benign and supportive of life that probably, if this water was around and you had been on the planet, you would have been able to drink it," Curiosity chief scientist John Grotzinger, of Caltech in Pasadena, said at the …show more content…
Its thin atmosphere and most likely a completely waterless surface shows that any life that was to land on the Red Planet would have a hard time trying to survive. At that time, when life was found on Earth, Mars had an ocean, volcanoes and deltas, the difference between Mars and Earth is Mars rapidly lost its hold on habitability. According to scientist Mars lacks the ability to have a protective magnetic field, most of the water left the surface and escaped into space, this was caused by the exposure of the surface to the cosmic rays and ultraviolet light. There were only a few packs of water left on the surface, some remained at the poles whereas others may have remained under the
In overcoming the challenges along the way of the mission from launching to impact to egress, it has allowed scientists and organisations such as NASA to gather more information about the nature of the Mars, from the climate to the geology of the planet. The outcome and findings of this mission has been a success and influential in the way we explore other planets to find the possibility of past and/or present life on that planet. The rovers had discovered fluid and other deposits on the surface of the planet, which may indicate that life can survive on this planet. The uncovering of these physical environments has shaped the method and processes undertaken on other missions in order to succeed and deliver the necessary answers to the questions of the possibility of life
A question that has been asked for many reasons in the space world: Is there life on other planets? A mission called Curiosity launched in 2011. Curiosity has been on Mars since August.Curiosity’s goal was to find signs of water and see if Mars was suitable for life. The surprising fact on Mars is there is presence of water. One key element was Mars once had habitable conditions and there looks to be ice on the planet. Curiosity has been using a camera to take photos of Mars. It is much like the panoramic camera we have on Earth. Both cameras have the same material incorporated in them and are used for the same purpose.
Like how seasons are the changes on land, they can also be apply to oceans in temperate latitudes. The most productive seas on the planet are the seasonal seas because they border the temperate parts of the world where conditions change throughout the year. The power of the sun is constantly changing; hence there are different seasons even under the seas due to the different in sunlight radiation. In the far north, summers are warm and gentle, while winters are wracked by savage storms. Sable Island, southeast of Nova Scotia in the Atlantic Ocean is home to the world’s largest colony of gray seal, about 100,000 seals come to breed here each year. The climate at this location is heavily influenced by the sea and being located in the path of major frontal storms and cyclones, precipitation is high. Around March, the seas have warmed enough to trigger phytoplankton to appear. Phytoplankton is tiny algae, each smaller than a pinhead. During this time of the year, phytoplankton reproduces with an amazing speed and produces more annual growth than all the parts on land together. They
Red Cloud was born around 1820 near the forks of the Platte River, near the present day city of North Platte, Nebraska. His parents were Lone Man, and Walks as She Thinks. When asked about his name, he said it was a family name. Red Cloud’s parents died when he was around the age of five or so.
What do you think we would do if someone from anther planet landed in the U.S and claimed it as his territory because he had discovered it? How would you feel about this?
Before the sailor flybys in the 1960s, scientist thought Mars had water and life, even if it was just some sort of plantlike lichen. Mars has water, frozen underground and at the polar caps. There is (event(s) or object(s) that prove something) that this water has, in the past and present, flooded the surface in liquid from. Signs of wearing away can be
Was there ever water on its surface? Will we find life there? Answers to these questions and others will come from studying and traveling to Mars. ”(Bowers, 1) We only know/see 4% (we only see 4 out of every 100 stars, planets and galaxies) of what is out there in space and we would learn so much more about planets and long-term space travel if we went to Mars because a normal rocket would be too small to be in for about 6 months. We would need to advance in the technology to colonize another planet and we would need to advance in our technology for long-term space travel.
Preview Statement: The possibility of life on mars is an extravagant topic to look at. Before that, we must analyze Mars itself along with its conditions. First, we will talk about the ice caps located on Mars. Second, we will examine the water streaks on Mars. Third we will observe if the red planet is inhabitable for humans to conquer it.
Spirit stumbled across rocks that pointed to an earlier, unrulier Mars that was marked by impacts, explosive volcanism and subsurface water [source: NASA Mars]. "Water is key because almost everywhere we find water on Earth we find life," NASA's Web site. However, we are still unsure life existed on Mars.
Water on Mars is very hard to find. Since the planet used to have water most of it is frozen underground. “The bad new is that most of that water is frozen underground and likely contains toxic chemicals.” The water that is dug up would have to be purified and preserved. Georgie’s father said that in the canyon there was “water-soluble mineral deposits” near the edge of the canyon. Georgie’s father said that “ I figure drill 400 meters down, and we’ll hit water”
NASA’s Curiosity team made history by drilling into ancient rock beds on the planet Mars. This was the first time in human history that such a feat on another planet has ever happened. The Curiosity rover robotically manned by a team from earth chose a basin known as “Yellowknife Bay” to begin its first drilling. The goal for Curiosity will be to enter the basin, obtain a foreign sample of rock and analyze the rock sample. This sample will be chemically analyzed to identify what elements it was composed of and if any organic molecules are still present. This is critically important because the obtainment of this sample may shed light in regards to the existence of water on Mars.
The discovery of water on Mars and traces of it on the moon has caused many scientists and people to become thrilled. The evidence of water in other planets is hope for the possibility of life too. NASA is planning to send a rover over to Mars in 2020, to find any evidence of life (NASA In ESA's ExoMars Rover). The ExoMars Rover will be able to identify chemicals present in the atmosphere and in rocks and provide evidence for questions such as the existence of life on the Red planet (NASA In ESA's ExoMars Rover). Mars is one of the millions of planets that scientific community is hoping to finds signs of life on. The news of life on a different planet would momentous for people worldwide. It would be a discovery that would clear up several
Liquid water is the most important factor for life, as we know it. Water is abundant in the galaxy, it is found in cold dense molecular stars as well as hot stellar atmospheres. Liquid water exists at a large range of pressures and temperature.
Adam and some of the people he works with made a video called “Seven Minutes of Terror” about a Mars landing. In the video, they introduced people around the world to one of the most daring and creative achievements of engineering ever completed. That achievement was the pinpoint landing of Curiosity on Mars. Curiosity is a machine called a rover, and it was built to explore the surface of Mars.
SUMMARY: Since getting a human to Mars is difficult, even for today’s technology, scientists have considered sending humanoid robots up instead. These robots are being developed right now by engineers Taskin Padir and Velin Dimitrov.
