Red Starbucks Cup The old saying “Tis the season to be jolly” has been associated with all the up and coming holidays, but recently the “jolly” was taken out of the season according to some Christians. Last week Starbucks, a major coffee franchise released their new holiday cup, and many Christians are in an uproar. The solid red cup, to me personally, is classic and timeless, while respecting all types of religions. I believe that the Christian community that has turned against Starbucks is putting their time and effort into the wrong place and are completely over reacting. If you enjoy the drinks how does a plain red cup effect the taste or quality of the coffee? There shouldn’t be an effect at all. Starbucks approached the situation in a graceful fashion. The franchise didn’t mention the person or target the group directly, The Company simply stated “Creating a culture of belonging, inclusion and diversity is one of the core values of Starbucks, and each year during the holidays the company aims to bring customers an experience that inspires the spirit of the season. Starbucks will continue to embrace and welcome customers from all backgrounds and religions in our stores around the world.” In my opinion Starbucks made a comment that will most likely urge other costumers of other religions to come and basically surpass the costumers who are refusing to return do to the cup.
Starbucks created the cup to let costumers create their own holiday story, like a blank canvas. Let the holidays be jolly for everyone, it’s a time for giving and helping other people. The Christians who are concerned about a cup need to take a step back and exam other problems going on. Personally I believe they should be using their time and energy to do things like giving trees, food drives, coat drives and trying to give underprivileged families a Christmas they deserve.
