Knowledgeable, educated, and wise have become descriptive characteristics that have become seemingly interchangeable in today’s society. However, what does it mean to be educated, wise or knowledgeable? In the article “The Educated Student: Global Citizen or Global Consumer” by Benjamin Barber, he says “…young people were exposed more and more to tutors other than teachers in their classrooms or even those who were in their churches, their synagogues-and today their mosques as well.” (417). One thing we do know is that education fits in all stages or groups in life. These groups help us to learn new rules and patterns associated with that age group. People do not play by the same set of roles throughout their lives. The different roles go with different patterns of behavior and learning levels that have to be taught. This implies that throughout our lives we are constantly being taught the education process.

Education should not only be looked at as attending college and passing exams to succeed in school. Nevertheless, it should be seen as the complete development of one's personality, intellectual development, and moral evolution. The system tells everyone to learn the same material, even if the students are bored and even if they’re sleeping during class. In the article “Against School”, John Taylor Gatto states, “teachers didn’t seem to know much about their subject and clearly weren’t interested in learning” (Gatto). This shows the teachers and the students disconnect from the context because either it’s irrelevant or not being taught in inspiring ways. What does it mean to be well educated? To be well educated it is a balance between academics and practical knowledge. Throughout this paper I will show that one does not necessarily need a college degree to be deemed as well educated. I will explore both aspects of academics and practical knowledge and how it affects individuals.

Education is the gradual process of meaning making and acquiring “knowledge.” One views the world through his or her own set of lenses or filters, from his or her own perspective, and the mind of the learner attempts to connect new information to existing schema to make new connections. These constructions and connections in the brain become "knowledge." Therefore, knowledge when people begin to understand facts or information through experience and/or learning. We begin to realize, through knowledge, details that we learn in isolation are actually interconnected. Education can be intentional or unintentional and can occur everywhere and at any time. Education is greatly influenced by affective factors and social context. It has both internal and external value, both to a person and to all of society.

Learning doctrines play a vital role in today’s competitive business industry especially in the rouse of new ways to form and conduct companies. Education is more than to learn or memorize files, even though commonly confused as such. Education you simply have it or not. I believe that be educated means that you have the skill to think analytically, and to accept and reconnoiter different standpoints.

Education is the knowledge, skill, and understanding that you get from attending a school, college, or university. There are many different methods when it comes to educating, this all starts in the schools, depending on how that particular school system decides to educate the students attending. Education has changed a lot throughout the years, however, a student also has to be willing to learn on their own. The best practices when it comes to education is a teacher that is ready to teach alongside a student that is ready to retain that knowledge use it not only inside the classroom but in the world around them as well.

Education not synonymous with schooling because a person who is educated does the polar opposite of what the school system and our society desires. An educated individual “think[s] critically and independently” instead of reflexively obeying, failing to question authority, and refusing to ‘think outside of the box,’ as the old saying goes (Gatto). This person is not “conditioned to dread being alone, and seek constant companionship through the TV, the computer, the cell phone, and through shallow friendships…” Instead, they possess the ability to find solace in being by themselves in addition to “develop[ing] and inner life so that they will never be bored,” (Gatto). What does it mean to be an educated person? An educated person is a well-rounded person that is knowledgeable in not just one area. It is a person that is open to new ideas and able to interact with various people. Someone that is educated is able to learned about our background and history and passes it down for future generations to learned and obtained that knowledge. Culture is the most important part of ones education. Many of the customs, attitudes, and beliefs of one group is what let one person be able to acquire the knowledge others countries, educators, and society is trying to teach them.

Education is important to be able to make informed decisions, draw conclusions from stimuli around you, and make responsible choices for not just you but the people your choices will affect. Being educated on certain topics such as the world around you will make your life easier to navigate and persuade people to agree with you. Human nature is to look up to and follow your superiors, or in this case the educated people that you admire to show you the right and wrong way to think or do something. Those people we look up to are people like: Doctors, professors, scientists, parents, media people and more. All of who we trust because they are more educated on a certain topic. Being an educated person will also do you well in the workforce which ties into being a productive citizens which are both responsibilities we possess as

An educated person with a degree will be prepared to fill any post with credit, and to master any subject with facility (49). In life, one will need a way to support themselves, so one will have an occupation as a means to support themselves. For the employee to do their job correctly, they will need to learn how perform their tasks correctly. As Newman has stated, an educated person will be able to bring credibility to their position in the workplace because they have had an education, and have a degree. The educated person will be able to think clearly and quickly understand, and analyze the tasks that need to be completed. Also, they will be able to learn new skills to perform their tasks with ease because the educated person has learned study skills which helped them to grasp concepts more quickly and easily. Having a formal education gives one the advantage to have clear and thoughtful insight to the point that they could argue for the reasons for their opinions, as well as have a degree which shows that they have the right skills

To determine if a person is considered to be an educated person, we must first know the definition of an educated person. The definition of an educated person is someone who can, “Listen, hear, read, understand, talk with anyone, write clearly, persuasively, and movingly, can solve a wide variety of puzzles and problems, they respect rigor not so much for its own sake but as a way of seeking truth, they practice humility, tolerance and self-criticism, they understand how to get things done in the world, they nurture and lastly, they empower the people around them. Education is an endless growth through trials and experiences as stated by Eleanore Hanrahan, from “Seeking My Education,” out of the novel, “Criteria.” In order to claim a proper education I believe one must make independent decisions, balance life well, take opportunities, push through failure, and step beyond the normal measures of life by experience. Going to college is a significant change for many.

An educated person is supposed to face the challenges of life bravely and successfully. No person can be called properly educated if he or she fails in making a good contribution to the society and country. Education means that students are able to stand on there own feet with the hard work they have achieved

From the start of time, to present day, the only way to achieve almost anything this world is to have an education. But, who decides if you’re properly educated, and where does this education come from? What it means to be educated is perceived differently by everyone. To me, education focuses on the mind. But more specifically, factors and characteristics that shape one’s mind. To be educated means one should have the ability to think critically, show respect, and have a level head while obtaining some overall knowledge.

The term ‘education’ can mean many things. An education is the collective knowledge a person has, but what does an education mean? Although an education can be paid for, no one can physically give you an education, so it is not a gift. There are societal situations where an education is a necessity, but not many globally. Education is a tool to be utilized differently in every part of the world. Knowledge is power, but some knowledge is more powerful depending on your region. If you are part a primitive tribe in New Guinea, a person that is considered to be educated may be illiterate.
