The entire lives of the citizens in Divergent are determined by what they are in. The only freedom that they are granted is the ability to choose their faction. There are five factions with a personality type and those are Abnegation (selflessness), Amity (happiness), Candor (honesty), Dauntless (brave), and Erudite (knowledge). I do not think the factions represent every basic personality. There are some people like Tris who are just not one personality type. I think I would create one that could be for the people who failed the test or feel like they belong to more than one faction.
The reason behind the creation of the factions was to create peace and order within the society. I believe that the factions are working because Tris’s society, the factions have held together the structure in her community. In Tris’s society, the fact that they do not have a lot of choices is not really making the society better. Something else that does not help, is that the divergents have to hide.
A faction I think I would have been born into is candor because of my family valuing honesty. I would have wanted to choose Erudite because of the knowledge and intelligence. At the age of sixteen, I would not feel that comfortable choosing my faction because at that age you are not very experienced. You are young and could make the wrong choice.
A choice that I have made that had changed me is to be more positive. Some future choices that I will also make is to not let certain things and opinions
Choices, they change us as humans and can greatly affect our lives. There is a book that showcases this completely describes this perfectly, this book is Tangerine. In the book Tangerine, many choices are made by the main character, his friends and his family that affects what happens and other people's feelings. Choices, even small ones can change lives.
Madison states that factions are groups of people who come together to protect and promote their special economic interests and political opinions. Much like present day presidentul partys. The factions were creating more problems
Divergence gives people the ability to control your mind control tests making it hard for people to be able to read you. And in this book the government doesn’t exactly like not having the power. So they were out to kill all divergent people.to stay alive at the day of choosing a different factions or your same faction Tris chose dauntless. The dauntless faction is basically the brave they also are the cities protection and law. In dauntless training you had to accomplish certain things in order to be a dauntless member.
Because factions are a plague to all involved, methods must be created to stop them. The first of two methods Madison suggests is to stop the cause of them. However. Factions are unavoidable as long as there are differences
I chose to become hostile and hateful, as opposed to my usually kind and loving nature. The reason I made this choice is precisely because it would affect the responses of others in a very clear and visible way, while it would create a zone of considerable discomfort for me. Certainly, choosing to become
Factions come together for a various many reasons, but the most common one is the uneven distribution of property to people. Other reasons for factions include varying opinions about government, religion, and even activities that other citizens are involved in (Federalist). James Madison, the author of the Federalist 10 states that the reasons for factions can never be removed. He says that those who would remove or judge over the
The actions made in the past can determine the course of your life. Even the choices that weren't your own.
Many of these factions try to gain popularity for a candidate who wants a position in the government; this is a simple and fair way to win. Also in today's world you don't hear much about factions having conflicts with each other, since the government is big enough and pays attention to everyone.
The factions differ from one another in how they dress, communicate, and the activities that they participate in. They factions get along well with one another, but primarily as mutual agreements instead of a friendships. Although the factions blend well together, they are segregated into their own parts of the city and seldom ever see anyone from another faction. This segregation puts an emphasis on the differences of the subcultures in how they function.
a decision I had to be critical about what was good and bad for myself. Even if
During many events in the movie, the idea that human nature gets in the way of society’s progress, shown through Jeanine’s remarks on human nature, for instance” it's an important ideal, but sometimes difficult to fulfill. It goes against our fundamental human nature. But that's exactly the weakness we need to overcome.”, and “The system removes the threat of anyone exercising their independent will. Divergent threaten that system.”. In these cases, Jeanine believes that human nature and morals are a weakness to the progress of society and is eliminated through the faction system where people are obliged to do what they are told. The second quote explains how divergents are a threat to the faction system with their ability to have free will. The factions system was set up in the movie to make sure that the Another example would be the initiation of the Dauntless initiation during the movie. During many scenarios, the initiates were put in positions that required them to hurt someone that cannot fend for themselves and is even exemplified when Four tells Tris during one of the simulations that “As a Dauntless soldier you have to follow orders you don't always agree with... She's an innocent... and I have to kill her. But I can never do it... unless I look away.” This quote from Four explains how the dauntless
Accepting only the best decisions in life is not always the right choice. Experiencing new things can increase people’s knowledge, and become someone of new and different value during their time in this world. They are able to obtain something that everyone will cherish when they face horrific situations, and overcome it. With all those successes, people are then given the chance to go down a new road. The change may be good, or may even be something terrible, but in the end, people will become their own person with a unique mindset of things. Taking opportunities can lead to positive or negative change.
Divergent is a dystopian novel that takes place in a futuristic Chicago. The setting also looks like a perfect Utopia, but as you go on reading you find out that it has a lot of problems. In the novel there was a war that was caused by differences in people's ideologies. The war caused Chicago to be divided into five factions. Each faction has a virtue which they value and cultivate. The five factions are Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, and Erudite. The Abnegation faction values selflessness, the Amity peace, the Candor honesty, the Dauntless bravery, and the Erudite intelligence. Throughout the novel the main character is Tris which was born in Abnegation and chose to go to the Dauntless faction. Chicago in the novel is governed by a group of people from
Making choices can affect any and everything in your life whether it’s dealing with your family or just everyday situations. Everyone in life is faced with good and bad choices that can either have a good outcome on your life or it can make a turn for the worst. Yes, everyone wants to make good choices in life. But does that always happen? Nine times out of ten know. Recently, I made a bad choice that affected my life in numerous ways for instance when I got caught shoplifting my parents looked down on me as if I was this thief. I’m very embarrassed of my actions but there’s nothing I can do to erase it I can only make this a learning experience and make better choices next time around. As teenagers
Would you ever want to live in a world where you are categorised by your actions and thoughts. Well this is what Tris has to live with. She was born into the Abnegation faction (the selfless) but never felt like she belonged. She is told in her aptitude test that she has traits from Abnegation, Dauntless(the brave), and Erudite(the intelligent). She was divergent. I never truly knew what that meant until the end of this book and I still wonder if I know everything. After reading this book I think is very good and keeps you interested, but I have found some flaws. Although I really enjoyed the book in the beginning, it did not have enough detail and left me confused. The book was also very predictable and was way too long to have the main action only at the end.
