One of the laws of this act is that it is against the promotion of anger, resentment across races and different hierarchy of the general population of Singapore (9) This protects the religious harmony in Singapore. Since this country was founded, we have had a set of unalienable rights that our constitution guarantees us to as Americans. One of the most important rights that is mentioned in our constitution is the right to free speech. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the
Free speech is the backbone that holds democracy together. Without a free speech, ideas would not be challenged, governments would not be kept in check, and citizens would not be free. John Stuart Mill said once that, “If all mankind minus one were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person then he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.”( Roleff, 21). The right to free speech is essential to “egalitarian democracy,”(Tsesis) however, this right is not absolute and must be limited in certain situations.
A society with an internal consensus of social norms and cultural values is essentially the BASIS of a social system. Contrarily, this system is labeled socially disorganized when there is a breakdown in social control or SOMETHING among its elements. To me Social Stability means that your whole community is equal. We all earn and do the same as others around us, which makes us even. Social Stability can also help us keep our society in balance. Without Social Stability our society can end up being chaotic. Social Stability has a big part in the novel “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley, their society is balanced out by having their citizens take certain amount of soma and by also having certain restrictions . I do not believe that the sacrifices that the World Sate requires of its citizens are a price worth paying to maintain Social Stability, because it can eventually make someone in unintellectual, rebellious, and unhappy.
Freedom of speech is one of the foundations that our founding fathers upon to make the great country we live in. Some people think that we need more limitations on this freedom then we already have or completely remove it (“Should Freedom of Speech be Restricted on College Campuses?”), but in reality that is not the truth. The truth is that we need to protect this right because there are people who have died trying to obtain and protect this right and every other right that we have in America, and to destroy it would be a waste of their sacrifice.
In the year 2016, many voters have found themselves undecided and discontent between the last two candidates, Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump. Between the two candidates, many people have perceived some of Donald Trump’s remarks as being a racist, and a sexist. For that reason, many believe that Donald Trump actions were out of line and should not be said; however, others disagree and encourage him. Why does society find it necessary to restrict the Freedom of Speech? As Americans, we have certain rights granted to us by the First Amendment one of them is Freedom of Speech. The First Amendment guarantees each person the freedom of expression by allowing the press or the rights of individuals to speak freely. That being said, people should be allowed to speak openly when it comes to their political view for various reasons, everyone is different, can use it for educational purposes, and can take part or be involved.
Twana A. Hassan states “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights…The core notion of the principle is that humans are free to do, say, have, and to be whatever they want if there is no law explicitly prohibiting it” (488). People have a right to express their opinion, feeling, and wishes. This human right is protected by First Amendment. America is a free nation that means Americans are born with many freedoms. Freedom of speech is one of the most wonderful freedom that people are enjoying. To have this freedom, people had fight for it in the past; it has been through many different phases; and now it is different from ever before and will continue to change in the future. Freedom
Singapore and Malaysia were both similarly colonized by the British. However, their development after independence differed in many ways. In this paper, I will examine, with help from resources provided in the course and minimal research, how their colonial experiences affected their political and social development after independence. After which, investigating the depth of influence their colonizers had, and why, differing racial ideologies had the greatest impact on their development.
Since humankind has evolved socially to a point where new philosophical ideas about society and social structure are far and few in between, we can start breaking down the boundaries of what a society is (All About 2017). This is mainly because humankind is finally starting to see the need for a more stable world. The social cohesiveness seen today has not always been the case.
But I think that true freedom of speech would mean that there is no right that cannot be offended - when we pick and choose who and what rights to support and oppose we must realize that there will always be opposing views, debates and emotions.
