Freedom of Speech Is Important to Americans
Twana A. Hassan states “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights…The core notion of the principle is that humans are free to do, say, have, and to be whatever they want if there is no law explicitly prohibiting it” (488). People have a right to express their opinion, feeling, and wishes. This human right is protected by First Amendment. America is a free nation that means Americans are born with many freedoms. Freedom of speech is one of the most wonderful freedom that people are enjoying. Moreover, when they have no power to say what they think, they cannot be critical of government’s decisions. If they try to speak out against their government, they might be put in jail. North Korea is one of the best example for this situation, “if you speak out against the government you end up in a prison camp” (“Why freedom”). Since this country was founded, we have had a set of unalienable rights that our constitution guarantees us to as Americans. One of the most important rights that is mentioned in our constitution is the right to free speech. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the
America’s first president George Washington once argued at the [whenever he said this] that “If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.” It is an essential component to the daily life of any constitutional republic, such as that of the United States even though it is a right granted to all American citizens, in the past, freedom of speech has been abridged to accommodate political correctness, to prevent disruptive behavior that could negatively affect others, and to protect confidential military information.
Americans and free speech go together like burger king. You can always have it your way, but at what cost? Free speech is something that has been around for a long time, but has involved & seen various dilemmas that make you want to question it & your own freedom. Although free speech was guaranteed in the first amendment there have been many situations that in a complex way make you think about your own rights & the whole purpose of being born in the United States with them. If I was to wake up one day & decide that I wanted to freely create a protest expressing that I support gay rights or the LGBT community then by all means I should be able to do that without any interference.
All you ever hear about in the news lately is people getting in trouble for speech. Many Americans embrace freedom of speech for the same reasons they embrace other aspects of individualism. Freedom of speech is the right to defiantly, robustly and irreverently speak one's mind just because it is one's mind. Freedom of speech is thus bonded in special and unique ways to the human capacity to think, imagine and create. Conscience and consciousness are the sacred precincts of mind and soul. Freedom of speech is intimately linked to freedom of thought, to that central capacity to reason and wonder, hope and believe, that largely defines our humanity (Smolla).
The United States Constitution grants American citizens the freedom of speech. This single line in the First Amendment has been a staple of American culture since its ratification on December 15, 1791 (Constitution Center, 2018). The Founders recognized the significance of this freedom and the power it had to shape a young nation. It was George Washington who declared-“If freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter” (Global Research, 2016). The legal definition of this vision is “the right to express information, ideas, and opinions- free of government restrictions based on content and subject only to reasonable limitations” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2018). Consequently, this sole clause

The freedom of speech is something that everybody should have a right to in the United States. Not everyone around the world has this right, because some countries are corrupted, abandoned, and even nearly messed up politically. In the 1876 Constitution it talks about how free speech was specified along with the right to bear arms, and the right to petition. The first amendment gave the people power to stand up against a power hungry nation to let the nation know what the people wanted to change. Tinker vs. Des Moines was a case that involved a situation with freedom of speech. They both, along with their parents, wanted to protest a way of how they can prevent the Vietnam War by wearing arm bands to symbolize their way of protesting. This
Ah, the freedom of speech. Outlined in our nation’s Constitution and considered one of the most fundamental of all human rights, it gives us the ability to express ourselves without government interference, restraint, or suppression (“Freedom of Speech: An Overview”). Free speech is practiced by all types of American citizens, from the teenage girl posting a picture of a Starbucks cup on Instagram to the riled adult handing out fliers for a political cause. Every form of expression, ranging from the frivolous to the meaningful and the agreeable to the controversial, is protected by this significant and irreplaceable liberty. With this in mind, freedom of speech should surely be guaranteed in all corners of our nation.
The freedom of Americans include numerous benefits. The Freedom of speech, Freedom of Religion, and the Freedom of all around everyday choices; also known as the pursuit of happiness. Those freedoms allow Americans the right to have beliefs in whomever the religion calls for; Jesus for Christians, as well as Allah for Muslims, and so forth. American freedoms also allow Americans to spend their lives with the spouses of choice. They also allow the freedom to express feelings and beliefs of subjects under the correct pretenses. Free speech is also meant to be interpreted, and as an American, rights that seem to oppose any freedoms to those who look upon them can be modified to suit said citizen as stated in Amendment 9 “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain
Being an American means you have the freedom to express yourself. “Freedom means doing what I want to do, not what the government wants me to do” (49) in What is Freedom. Everyone has the right to speak and the right to state their opinions, within reason, in America. You would think that everyone all around the world has the right to say what they want, when they want but they don’t. In some countries if/when you speak upon a subject that the people in higher power do not condone in
The Freedom of speech is one of the most important things involved with being an American. Freedom of speech is probably one of the most well know rights that American citizens have. Natural Americans do not know how great of a
Freedom of Speech means that we all have the freedom to say whatever we want and expressed our opinions freely. I think Freedom Of Speech is becoming more limited in America because in “Censored America” people will act upon if they have a different opinion or they feel offended. They will do anything such as protest or use violence if they think they have different opinion. Words can hurt some people and certain words can be offensive to others. But we should still increased limits on freedom of speech because I think we have the right to say whatever we want but it is still our responsibility choosing words carefully where no one will get hurt by the words. We should try not to abuse our right and we should be allowed to say whatever we want
Freedom of speech is something that, traditionally, has been unique to the United States. In fact, it was one of the founding principles of our country. It was the group of repressed colonists that decided that they would no longer accept the fact that they were not allowed to speak out against the throne. They decided that they would not accept not being able to denounce the Church of England. And on July 4, 1776, what could be seen as one of the boldest forms of speech ever ensured that never again would American's be subject to the harsh regulation of Great Britain. Then, in 1789, our nation's forefathers made it official with the ratification of the U.S. Constitution, including the first of ten amendments:
American citizens have the freedom of speech. It states in the first amendment of our constitution, that we have the right to free speech. But while speech
