First of all I would like to thank you for the time and hard work you put in this semester to teach my classmates and me. This semester I learned a lot in your class such as APA style writing, how to write different format essays and Bloom’s Taxonomy. In your course I not only lesrned how to become a better learner but also a better person. I still remember how nervous I was feeling the first day of class. This was my first semester attending college, which made me feel worse. Since the first day I came into your class I was expecting this course to help me improve my writting skills in English. I consider spelling to be my greatest weakness in writing because my first language is Spanish and I have a lot of trouble learning English. In this letter I will let you know what I learned and how I have met the programs standards of focus, development and clarity because I have practice APA style, writting assays and using Bloom’s Toxonomy
When I was in my senior year of high school, I learned a little about writing in APA style. In your course I learned that I was making some mistakes when I thought I was using APA style the correct way. Something that I considered to be very helpful for me was getting the help from the librarian on how to use APA style using different kind of sources such as books, newspapers and vedios. The yellow sheet he gave us in his presentation was allot of help throughout the semester because I would always use it when It was time to do writing assignments. Learning how to properly use Apa style was very helpful for me becuse now I apply those skills on my assignments and I do a better job than befor. Now I feel way more comfortable and confident while writting. Before learning the proper way of using APA style I was always unsure If I was giving credit to the sources I was using. I'm planning on applying this writing skill in and out of class to have a clear and smooth writing when It gets to give credit to sources.
Throughout the semester we practice literature by writing several essays such as diagnostic, narrative, current event and common exit essay. In all these four essays the two that I found to be the hardest ones was the narrative and the current even. I consider the narrative
It is important to learn and utilize proper APA formatting as a student of Bethel because plagiarism is a very serious offense. At Bethel, plagiarism has serious consequences: it can result in a failing grade on an assignment for a first offense, and can progress up to getting a student expelled if they are a repeat offender.
Nice to meet everyone, I am working toward a degree in Human Services, and I am on my 10th term at kaplan. I work as a caseworker at a women and children crisis center. I have six wonderful boys, and my husband is a Marine at Camp Lejeune, NC. When I am not spending time with my husband and children, I am writing the church bulletin and finding ways to be more creative with it. I am hoping that this class will make me more comfortable with the APA format, I have written many papers in the terms I have been at Kaplan but I still have to look up on how to format certain citation at the Kaplan writing center. I will also like to be more comfortable in formal writing.
Furthermore, in the second semester we also had a research assignment. Within this assignment, we had to create an auto bibliography of our resources. This was great, because it helped me know how to properly cite a resource. Knowing how to cite in APA format, was beneficial for my progression to reach goal #4 and my other courses. For example, if the course did not cover how to properly cite in APA format, I would have incorrectly cite resources for other class assignments as well. With the knowledge of how to properly cite in APA format, it will be a great use in my future college
The APA writing style is most commonly used to cite sources for psychology, education, and social sciences and is also the official writing style of the American Psychological Association. The General APA Organizational Guidelines are basic guidelines that explain how to write a research paper in the APA format. These guidelines ensure clear and consistent presentation of written material that differentiates from other writing styles because it concerns elements such as: Citations, punctuation, presentation of numbers, etc
In order to manage my time as a student, a routine schedule will have to be developed that accommodates all aspects of my life. In addition to a routine schedule, utilization of the technology that Bethel provides through the online library while learning the APA writing style. In watching the attend section several strategies stood out that would be beneficial to my writing, such as reading the paper out loud and giving yourself time for editing before submission. By utilizing these strategies along with Purdue OWL for APA will help to guide my transition as a student more smoothly. This first class will be a learning experience even with the best time management skills and strategies. I will have to reprogram my mind from being in an
Life is a cycle of learning and the dissemination of what we’ve learned. In each day of our lives we learn something new to add to our list of skills and knowledge. When I first entered university, I thought the writing courses were useless and just a waste of time since we all can write. Later, however, I realized how those courses are beneficial in improving our critical thinking and communication skills not only the style of writing.
The intro to scholarly writing class has been a very good class for me. I think it has helped me solidify proper write mechanics. There were many inaccuracies in my APA writing abilities. This class has helped to refresh me on the correct use of citation. I have also always struggled with grammar and punctuation. I feel this class has given me valuable tools to improve my writing style. I believe I have benefited greatly from taking this writing class. The skills I have acquired in this class will be useful for my future courses.
You should be proud of yourselves for all the hard work you have done in this course. This course is designed to teach you to speak well publicly, listen to your coworkers, and write in a professional setting. In addition, learning and practicing APA formatting will help you in future courses. When writing emails it is always important to proofread and rewrite your work to avoid errors as it is a permanent record of your communication abilities. If you catch all the errors in this email, I will give you an extra credit point in addition to the assignment points. Students always appreciate extra credit. Whether or not you catch them all, it will be good
Students and researchers use the APA style and formatting in academic writing, as defined by the American Psychological Association. These guidelines bring uniformity and standardization to such scholarly writings as student essays, research papers, and journal articles. By setting the foundation for
I’m not going to lie to everyone, writing is not my favorite thing to do in life. In fact, I’m looking forward to my last class for my bachelor’s degree and my last essay or paper to complete said bachelor’s degree. I cannot pinpoint whether my discord with writing is attributed to a lack of ideas flowing in my head, or the inability to translate my ideas to paper. With that being said, I started this class with a basic knowledge of the APA writing style and I’d like to say I had an intermediate level of understanding of grammar. After these past eight weeks of Writing 101, I now can easily setup and build an efficient APA essay and I’ve learned how to conform to the APA writing style’s reference page.
Bethel University requires their students to use APA formatting style/in-text citations making it a necessity. Some jobs that involve a substantial amount of writing or research required that the author cite where their resources have come from. It is very important that APA is not only utilized but utilized correctly because not doing so could cost an individual more than he or she is willing to pay, meaning that there are consequences to be endured should a student break this rule. Academically speaking, not citing the sources you chose to use depicts the writer/student in an un-pleasant light; it means that either you were ignorant to what is correct and acceptable or you did not care leaving the paper you wrote under unprecedented amounts of scrutiny losing all credibility. From an instructor’s viewpoint, not citing sources properly or at all does not give the author of the piece you used for your paper or essay the proper credit he or she deserves. Presenting someone else’s ideas thoughts and emotions as your own either out of sheer ignorance or malicious intent is academic dishonesty. In court, not citing the

The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (Publication Manual) began as an article published in Psychological Bulletin in 1929. That article reported results of a 1928 meeting of scholars "to discuss the form of journal manuscripts and to write instructions for their preparation" (American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2001, p. xix). Today the manual is in its fifth edition, and the APA format described in it is a widely recognized standard for scientific writing (i.e., scholarly or professional writing) in the social sciences. Although the
Throughout this course I have come to recognize my many strengths in written communication and APA style as a whole. In writing, I have found that I am able to maintain focus and keep my writing coherent. I have also noticed that I am able to use transitions effectively and have very few grammar and punctuation errors. In regards to APA style, my writing demonstrates critical thought and a clear understanding of the subject. I am able to present information in a scholarly manner and in a way that flows smoothly. Overall, my strengths allow me to write in an effective, well structured, and scholarly manner.
American Psychological Association (APA) writing style exists for a reason and this reason is because writers' must give “credibility where credibility is due”(Walden Writing Center, 2015) . During my BSW program I learned this and also, the importance of integrity in college level writing. In my opinion, two aspects of APA that I think will not challenge me are direct quotations and listing references. I have to admit I prefer to quote intellecutual matter directly rather than, use paraphazing. I believe this is approriate to do if the quote you utilize is short and all of your agrguments regarding, the content of the quote, are your own ideas. Another thing that will come easily to me is listing my references. This comes easily to me because during my undergraduate education, I excelled in this area. The reason for this is because everytime I wrote a reference page I always refered to my courses APA manual.
