1. Introduction
Over the last 12 weeks, I have learnt many things in term of academic writing. At first, I do not truly believe I would like this course. As much as I can remember, I am not interested in learning how to write formally and academically. The only reason I forced myself to learn it is because formal writing skill is one of the mandatory skill I need to acquire if I want my study abroad time to be successful. Therefore, my decision to participate in this course is not willing but it is rather necessary. In this portfolio reflection, I will try to summarize it as much as I can to show how much I have achieved in the following orders which start with my writing background, my goals at the start of the course, as well as how I

Another reason making my essay’s structure lack of coherence is sometimes I just randomly make any arguments that pop into my head into my essay. However, thanks to the support and feedback from my lecture as well as the suggestion of resource of my friends on my essay, I can fix it in the essay revision. For example, I have completely erased the part where I described the polar life and have added in more information about the impact of climate change in general to increase my essay’s fluency.
The second goal I set at the start of the WRIT 151 course is to increase my ability at referencing. To begin with it, it is not like I have never done referencing before this course. There is only one problem which is I actually have never done referencing by myself since my friends and online software are two tools I always relied on. It is quite embarrassing of me to not know how to do reference since I started studying in New Zealand 3 years ago. However, the first achievement I have made in term of referencing is to spend more time on in-text citation and to try learning the rule of APA post-text reference. Even though, I have not been capable of doing post-text reference effectively yet, there are some references in my assignment was done by myself using the manual guide book.
Actually, I do not have a third goal to achieve in this WRIT 151 course. Instead of limiting myself with a self-made goal, my knowledge as an academic
In, high school my teachers assign me with different kinds of reading and writing. The types reading that i remember is the Killing Mocking Bird and The Adventure of Odysseus in freshman year of highschool. I didn't like the two book that much. Next the types of writing i recall writing is an observation poem in my english writing class i had to observe an thing and write at least five line poems using the four key items(see, hear, feel, and think). I had to write a lot summaries on articles and writing prompts in four years in secondary school. Also, i did a reflection essay where i had created an claim, counterclaim, evidence, rebuttal, TAG (title, Author, and Genre) of information and quote of one of the scenes in the story of Shakespeare Hamlet before i start my reflection writing.
This year I have learned a lot from College Writing, this class has taught me a lot about my own writing and what makes a good essay. I have learned a lot about myself as a writer and as a person throughout the course. In this reflection of the past semester I will be going through my past papers and talk about what I liked and how I could’ve made them better. I will also be going through the activities that have shaped my writing the most. Hopefully, I will be representing how I have grown as a writer throughout the year because of this class. Before taking this class I was already relatively confident in my writing abilities and was excited to take the class. Now that the course is completed I am even more confident in my writing because of all the new techniques and helpful tips I learned.
Furthermore, in the second semester we also had a research assignment. Within this assignment, we had to create an auto bibliography of our resources. This was great, because it helped me know how to properly cite a resource. Knowing how to cite in APA format, was beneficial for my progression to reach goal #4 and my other courses. For example, if the course did not cover how to properly cite in APA format, I would have incorrectly cite resources for other class assignments as well. With the knowledge of how to properly cite in APA format, it will be a great use in my future college
In this portfolio, I have included a variety of pieces that displays my strengths and weaknesses in my work. As I come to the end of the semester and reflect on my work in your English 112 class, I can see how I improved as a writer. English 112 has taught me many things and has helped me develop more skills as a reader. I have completed several assignments this semester such as readings, journals, multiple essays, and an oral presentation. My portfolio includes “All in the Family”, “Trapped Treasures”, “A Student Is More Than a Number”, a chosen revision of “Trapped Treasures”, my journals reflection, my personal essay reflections, my annotated bibliography, and lastly my self-assessment sheet.
This portfolio will show you the turmoil’s of my year in 9th grade English Honors. My assignments shown in this portfolio have been very mediocre and show the many mistakes I have made throughout. I have constantly had errors in my MLA formatting and basic grammar. I think that I have these constant errors because I am just not thoroughly proofreading my work. It also reflects on how many errors have escaped my proofreadings’ and I hope to improve this skill in the future. I have also had a lot of problems with analyzing texts and making through commentaries. Like my proofreading skills, I strive to really improve and strengthen my disadvantages. Strengthening these skills will greatly benefit me in the future if I shall take AP English 11
I began this course with goals to significantly improve my writing. I knew there were challenges for me to overcome, because I have not written much at all since high school, which has been more than twenty four years ago. Nonetheless, I was up for the challenge and each week I made sure to do exactly as instructed in the weekly syllabus, reading each every assignment very carefully. At first I felt overwhelmed, but as I completed the homework and discussion post assignments for the weeks prior to the major papers, the overwhelming feelings subsided and I concentrated on each task at hand.
This portfolio is a great example of how I improved as a writer. This second semester of duel enrollment English has helped me improve not only on becoming a better writer but as well as becoming more mature as a person and has helped me with time management. This portfolio includes the three best pieces that I have written this whole year. I hope you enjoy these pieces as much as I enjoy them.
In this portfolio it reflects my strengths and weaknesses in my writing in WRC 1013. This portfolio reflects my understanding of informative writing by the use of evidence showing my lack of elaborating and also using a wider more collengent vocabulary. It also shows evidence of the use of my extended imagination and also my great decision making skills in my finding more interesting topics to right on. This essay shows that my skills in decision making and imagination skills have improved. Although my lack of elaborating and my vapid vocabulary needs some extreme working on.
As I wrote several paper and had to add several outside sources into my papers this gave me the practice and the guidance that I needed. Before taking this course I never knew how to cite a personal interview with someone until I had complete one for Assignment 4. Even though, my grade was not the best for assignment 5, I did read the feedback and I understood what I did wrong and how to improve it. I believe that I cited all of my sources correctly and completed my references properly. Overall, since this was the last assignment given this was the one I felt as if I learned the most from because it was a combination of everything I had used in this course. I know that this concept is one that I will get even better with and constantly have to
One ability that I wish I had room schedule-wise to enhance is refering to sources in MLA style. Through the course, I declined to look for assistance from my educator until week seven, one thing I lament doing. That could have mollified the apprehension and uncertainty I had about this course. Any inquiries I had could be cleared up as the course advanced. My articles through the resulting weeks have shown my quality and shortcomings. I don't have numerous qualities when it comes composing, yet despite everything I consider my most prominent quality in composing to be having the capacity to obviously comprehend the brief and answer it effectively, particularly with the logical expositions. I think this is simply in light of the fact that I invest a large portion of the rare energy close by just to consider the brief, for instance, when I was get ready for my explanatory investigation paper on globalization I altogether read both articles on globalization by both Kwame Anthony Appiah and Franklin Foer .A conspicuous battle I have as an essayist is association and moves. I have a tendency to bounce starting with one point then onto the next and some of the time undercover. I ought to have utilized more transitional words as a part of in the middle of sentences and sections to make my peruser comprehend the rationale of my paper. I have not had enough composition experience and the written work procedure is troublesome for me. I admit to the way that it takes me days to finish one task, yet it will be justified, despite all the trouble when I turn into a refined
I have learned and improved many skills during my time in GSW 1110. Before I took this class I was very unconfident in my academic writing abilities; however, I have greatly improved them during this last semester. I have learned how to gather and organize credible information; write to audiences with opposing viewpoints; identify the audience I am writing to and cater my writing toward them; draft texts using personalized strategies; use grammar, punctuation, and mechanics to make my writing more interesting; and think critically to synthesize multiple points of view. I believe the skills I have learned and refined will allow me to move on to further college writing classes, as well as help me for the rest of my life at work and in the community.
Approaching this class, I thought I knew more about writing. It turns out, there were lessons I had yet to learn. I learned a lot more than I had expected. This class taught me the importance of time management, in-depth research, and more. It’s hard to realize what kind of an impact one single class has on an entire field of learning. But making connections with people who are doing the things I want to do in the future, has shown me how important this and every class is.
I have always enjoyed writing, and I believed writing was a subject I was naturally good at. I turned in papers that were still rough drafts, I did not evaluate my sources, nor did I ever take the time to fully understand the prompt. It was not until my first semester of college, in my writing composition course, I realized that I had a lot of work ahead of me to be as good a writer as I thought I was. In the writing course, the students were required to compose several essays using different methods to help progress on the course objectives. The work in this portfolio demonstrates that I have used the methods of synthesis and evaluation of sources to advance my critical thinking skills and develop personal responsibility. Though I have
This first semester at the University of Akron has flown by. I learned many new writing concepts that helped me become a better writer. English composition was a required class that I had to take in order to get my degree. Although this class was required I still wanted to take this class to become more knowledgeable about writing. Coming into English Composition I was worried about all of the papers and the workload that I would have to complete. I knew that I was going to have to write a lot more than I previously had in highschool, but I was unsure of just how much. The works that I decided to include in my portfolio comprise of my Literacy Narrative, Image Analysis Paper, and essay titled Mayas Hardships based on Maya’s experiences in I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. I selected these works because I felt that they are the ones that require the most improvement to them. The papers i've chosen show how far I’ve came In English Composition.
It is my belief that through this class and the tools provided, that my growth as a writer has grown through leaps and bounds I would never have assumed possible. It is not so much the skill I refer to, although I would think skill has gone up in some levels as well, but more so the appreciation for the craft of writing itself. Intially, at the start of this class my sole goal was to further my understanding and appreciation of the writer's and books that I so love to read. Through further evaluation within the first week, a few other goals came to mind, of which were, making writing a habit, finishing what I start, stop second guess my writing skills and making effective use of detail and description. Through the use of the many articles, various reading materials, whether poems or short stories, and especially through the workshop, I feel I was able to really push myself to accomplishing these goals. I have thus far learned how important it is not to be skilled at writing per say, but to have the will to write, that poetry is as much about it's sound as it is about it's subject, just how important character development is, how the narration and point of view of a story is essential to the way the story is told, and just how much of a difference peer's critiques can make to your writing.
