In addition to signing up for this course because it was required, I also signed up because I wanted to know how an entrepreneur thinks and what are the behaviors of a good entrepreneur. I also wanted to learn how I could make my (unborn) business better by getting information and tools from a somewhat serial entrepreneur. I knew it would be advantageous to take the class, but I did not know that I would feel more confident as an aspiring entrepreneur and less afraid to take on the world. Early in the course, I was taught a few character traits of an entrepreneur that I used a checklist to make sure that I posessed them. These traits include: optimistic, takes risks, desire to take the plunge, confidence, problem solver, and risk management. Some of these I had easily, but others I decided I needed to develop during the course. During the past several weeks I have not only brought each of those out of me, but I found a few more such as, my desire to be a good leader. Furthermore, I learned that a good entrepreneur is also a good leader and that they are not two separate ideas, but one in the same being that one cannot exist without the other. A good entrepreneur is a good leader also and has the behavior of a good leader. In so far, I have also gained an abundance of knowledge of how to make my business better. When I first started the class I only knew of an entrepreneur but now I am aware that I can also be an intrapreneur (someone who starts a business within an
My heart raced uncontrollably as I waited for my turn to come. I was sitting, for the first time, in a classroom in the United States, surrounded by people who were at least 2 years older than I was. Professor Knapp had asked for each one of us to stand up and state the reason why we were taking the Entrepreneurship course that summer at the University of Southern California. I thought I was prepared to answer what seemed like such a simple question, until I heard the responses that my fellow classmates were giving. “I want to expand my apparel business to other states” “I want to make even more than the 70 thousand dollars I made in the stock market last year” “I want universities to encourage the use of the app I built”. What was I supposed
that takes the risk in order to succeed. They are also the ones that boost and help the economy of a country. Last Friday, our teacher has invited guests to talk about being an entrepreneur. I learned many things and I was able to know how entrepreneur does things. The first speakers were Miss Archelle Ferrandiz and Arabelle Santamaria from Miriam College. They came up with a non-food business named Inabel that supports the dying industry of weaving. Sadly, Inabel was stopped because their other partners don’t have the same vision like they do. They stopped contributing ideas because they are not gaining money. According to Miss Archelle Ferrandiz, sometimes it is not only about gaining money it is also giving back to others. The way I think about on how business works were changed. Now, business for me is not all about money but being happy on what your business does to people around you. She said that we should be risk-takers in doing business. It simply means that we believe in our vision that it will hit the market. If ever the business fails, we will able to know what went wrong and with that if we start a business again the chance of falling again is decreased because we have the advantage of knowing what could possibly went wrong. She also quoted a quote from Martin Luther King “IF YOU CAN’T FLY THEN RUN, IF YOU CAN’T RUN THEN WALK, IF YOU CAN’T WALK THEN CRAWL, BUT WHATEVER YOU DO YOU HAVE TO KEEP
I have always been interested in “doing my own thing” or, better known as, entrepreneurship. In high school, I would buy T-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats in bulk. I’d embroider little emblems on them and mark up the price by 100%. People at school would buy $1 shirts and pay $9 for my craftsmanship. However, I wanted bigger and better things. I channeled Andrew Carnegie in my approach to business: why just stop at my little venture when I could vertically integrate and market for myself? I decided to invest all my money in a new cause and thus, my own social media marketing company was born. The skills I’ve learned in starting my company is something that cannot be taught. I would relish the opportunity to grow and learn at an institution like The Stephen M. Ross School of Business that understands the importance of innovation and exploration.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute offers students all the resources and opportunities to succeed and thrive. Becoming a successful entrepreneur is my dream. I intend to study in The Lally School of Management. As the best undergraduate business school, RPI not only provides fundamental courses to prepare me well in leadership skills and computer skills, but also promotes my skills on interpreting data and problem-solving. I want to join the entrepreurship concentration which I have involving since my junior year. Thinking creatively outside the box, I endeavor to make my business project to become the best plan in the marketplace.Because the proudest moments of my life have been when I’ve been able to use my skills and resources to create products
Looking at the syllabus for management 330, entrepreneurship and small business management, see that there was four books that we had to read was a little intimidating. But after ordering the books and receiving them in the mail from Amazon there was a moment of relief. Looking through the books and seeing that two out of four were small and interesting was reassuring that it wasn’t four huge boring text books that we would have to plow through and do assignments from. Reading and talking about the books in class and getting teachers feedback from what he took away and what other students took away was interesting to hear. My three take-aways come from Steal Like an Artist and Should Your Idea Become a Business?
During this course, I feel that I should work on building a more professional attitude and behavior, and improving on business practices. These areas will be important in any profession I decide to take upon graduating with my degree in Business Administration. Maintaining a professional attitude and behavior in the workplace will be helpful to insure that I do not disrespect coworkers by interrupting them while they talk about their ideas. It will also help me to value colleague opinions, avoid gossip, and be cordial
Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” For this reason, I believe that everyone should have the best education as possible. Among all of the other university that are available for me, I choose Loyola Marymount University as the source for my education and I have never regret the decision that I made at the acceptance day. As an entrepreneurship major student in this University, I receive all the resources that I needed to be as an entrepreneur who can change the world. Loyola Marymount University programs are experience-based and globally relevant; they're designed to address the issues executives face every day. They provide the tools
All of the entrepreneurs mentioned in this class had the drive needed to be an expert, have an opportunity and passion to make their idea a success in the real life. Now I am not saying that some of them missed the sweet spot by a mile. But I feel like there were people in different groups that had magnificent ideas but the project was limited to just one idea and those people who had different ideas weren’t able to show the class what they came up with. So they never got the chance to see if they hit the sweet spot or not. And then there are those who were there but didn’t really follow the rules about entrepreneurship mentioned in this class. An example of this would be the guy with the heath app. Kawasaki mentioned in his book that if you are not good with persuading an audience you should have someone else that is better than you do it. The health app pitch to me was kind of boring and could have been way more exciting to listen to if the right person were to make a pitch. So to conclude the ideas, expertise and the opportunity was there; passion was iffy because of the amount of time that was given and execution can most certainly be improved by some of the guest speakers and
As someone who had always been prudent, I wanted a major that involved risk, and the out-of-the-box thinking I enjoyed. To me, business was all of the aforementioned. Who would’ve thought selling something like “pet” rocks could make someone a millionaire? Looking to an even more ludacris invention, who would’ve thought that selling a singing plastic fish would go viral. Herein lied what I thought to be the “magic” of business and entrepreneurship – the fact that it wasn’t a prescribed path but one that I could pave for myself.
Even leading authorities have some areas for which they lack knowledge and understanding. Most small business owners who make an honest assessment of their skills will recognize opportunities for improvement. By going back to school, entrepreneurs can gain a better understanding of how to conduct business. For example, by learning the latest developments in business practices, owners can learn to identify inefficiencies like redundant operational processes.
So, to sum it up, it is just right for me to say that this book is very helpful to those promising future entrepreneurs and students like us would really appreciate this kind of guide for us not to screw up when we graduate. But of course, it is not just helpful to the students but to those who wants to move out of the poverty line and start making money for their living.
The purpose of writing this report is to show how much I have learned and experience from enrolling in BBA 220. It is also include the impression and my personal reflection about the unit itself, and also the reflection about group project. Before I start this unit, I do not understand much about entrepreneur and entrepreneurship at all. I just know that people who do business are businessmen. However, after joining this unit, my understanding toward entrepreneur become different. Entrepreneur is someone who is willing to take risk by inventing a new business that does not exist in the market or start up their own business to make profit or take benefit of an opportunity. On the other hand, according to Joseph Alois Schumpeter (1883-1950),
There has been extensive research conducted on the characteristics that successful entrepreneurs possess. These attributes vary widely across literature, however there are common key traits that are required to achieve any form of success. Frederick et al (2013) suggest entrepreneurs are risk takers, optimistic, have sound judgement and an ability to manage. While a review of literature relating to the psychology of an entrepreneur reveals a large variety of characteristics in a successful entrepreneur, these can be consolidated to a a few into only a few traits that are essential for a successful entrepreneur. Whilst taking into
At the beginning of the course I had only had basic entrepreneur knowledge, I understood the traits, and the amount of thought put into a business. I understood a entrepreneur needed to be able to set goals and had to establish connections and business partners. I was actually lucky enough to have taken a entrepreneur class in highschool. Which taught me lots on how an entrepreneur business is started. It also taught me the required determination and hard work it takes to be a entrepreneur.
Taking this entrepreneur course has been the best thing I could do for myself. Not only did it grow my mindset, but it taught me how to focus and concentrate on meeting my goals. At the beginning of this semester I could not let go the negative self-image I had of myself. Since I have been able to reflect on who I am I am slowly able to let go of that past image. I now know that I am more than able to reach my goals with the proper mindset and skills. I have come a long way since the beginning of this course. At the beginning of this course we were asked what is most important in life, and when I chose myself I knew after that reflections that I was off to a great start. Putting myself first these last few months has been the best thing I
