In this Essay I would like to discuss my observation and give my reflection on the “Community Centre Video” as part of the assessment requirement of 1007HSV Human Services. I will also discuss and consider the location of the agency, the physical appearance of the community centre and how the atmosphere appears to feel in the reception area. One of the first things that come to mind when I viewed the video of the community centre is how little signage that indicated what the building was. The building also looked a little intimidating; there are bars on every window and a security screen door. If the information was in a chronological order he wouldn’t have gone fare from the start of the service information broachers on the table to find computer course broachers. Most of the broachers were of service and activities that are available from the community centre around families and children. There were community group activities that service uses who want to be more active within community. What I also noticed is that there were no chairs in the foyer area, this means you will have to stand and wait to be seen. The receptionist was very prompt to engage with the customer however. There was no glass barrier between the receptionist and the service user; this gives the reception a more approachable feel. I would understand that if this was a crisis type service for example, homelessness drop in centre or mental health clinic, that safety glass for staff to separate stressed and upset service users would be justified. The receptionist was friendly and clearly new the services that the Community Centre provided, she was very respectful and listened to the questions that were asked of her. I did notice though that there was no way of knowing if she was a service user or a staff member. There was no uniform or badge to say she was employed at the community centre. A uniform can be a separation between the service user and staff and creating a barrier, but it also makes it clear who you can talk to knowing that they
