In this paragraph I will be sharing my writing skills I have improved on throughout my first semester and goals I will be setting to keep on improving in my writing. For my past prompts and essays I have typed were great because I was slowly but surely improving on my writing. One this that for sure helped me on my prompt and pieces of writing was a site called Paper Rater. Paper Rater very much helped me on these writing pieces because it helped me on my Spelling, Grammar, Word Choice, Style, and Vocabulary Words. In Paper Rater it scores you either a A, B, C, D, OR F depending on how bright-eyed your writing came to be. In my writing piece makings, existents I have improved on would be my Vocabulary, Word Choice and Grammar. I have improved
My writing skills have fluctuated throughout the semester. I feel, although, I have mastered leads and headline writing. Leads and headlines were the first writing skills we practiced and have continued to practice throughout the entire semester. The continuous practice of leads and headline writing throughout the semester, I feel confident in my ability to write concise, eye-catching leads and headlines. For writing assignment three I needed to provide a follow-up headline and corresponding lead for a criminal case. The headline had to focus on the upcoming sentencing hearing because it was the newest information about the case. In order to do so, as I mention in my blog entry, I had to write several drafts for both my headline and lead. [INSERT BLOG PICTURE] After many drafts of the lead I settled on a summary-lead because the article was a follow-up story about an established criminal case. I wrote the headline after I wrote the lead because the headline had to be a shorter, more intriguing version of the lead. After many drafts I finally wrote a six worded, eye-catching headline that was about the sentencing hearing. [INSERT WRITING ASSIGNMENT

I am not by any means: Stephen King, J.K Rowling, Shakespeare, or even Dr. Seuss. It would take years of dedicated time and practice to even be considered for any literature achievement prize. Yet, I fully intend to flourish my writing skills by setting up goals, furthering my knowledge in writing, and evolving my already known skills. I will use the advice of not only my peers and instructors, but of my friends and family as well. By having all these options to review my writings, they will help point out the mistake I might have missed while I was self-assessing. All my writings thus far have been those of the school assignment variety. I can say that none of the essays, journals, research papers, etc., have been anything worth remembering.
At first when Jean (the head of the Houlton Higher Education Center) and I decided to sign up for PCJ I was kind of hesitant at first to take this class. Jean told me that the class had a lot of writing and my writing was not the best. At first I was not sure how the class would play out and or if I was going to pass it so, I decided to give to give the class a try. When the class started, I hoped to learn how better shape my writing skills.
I believe the importance of writing is to convey the writes thought and feelings. Another important aspect of writing is if the reader gained anything of value while reading the piece of literature. In order to relate to the reader, a writer must have dependable set of writing skills to engage the reader. During this course, I believe my writing skills have been improved upon. I have become more comfortable with my writing weaknesses and challenge myself more when writing.

The process of writing a song is more complicated than most people think. There are many steps to take, and it can be done in various ways. Not every song is written in one sitting, and often songs aren’t even written by a single person. I am very interested in songwriting, and I have even written my own songs. I am pretty good at songwriting, but I am not perfect. I want to improve my songwriting so that I can become a great professional songwriter. Someday, I hope to be a great songwriter, like the ones that I admire and look up to, such as: Prince, Eminem, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Machine Gun Kelly, Michael Jackson, and Jimi Hendrix. However, I have a lot of work to do before I am as great as my idols. There are many ways to improve
Fear struck through my body like lightning instantaneously as I entered the classroom. Luckily, there were barely any students present in the classroom when I appeared. Cautiously, I walked towards the front of the classroom and sat at one of the front desks. Of course, we did introductions and this was frightening to say the least. At first I thought the class would be boring, but I was wrong. Eventually when we received our chromebooks, I was able to test my writing ability. In effect, I soon discovered my poor writing skills and I was afraid of flunking that class.
As the semester is coming to an end and I am reflecting back on my writing skills, I can definitely say that I have changed my writing skills in a few aspects. For one is that I am writing this paper a week in advance, and before this course I would have done it the day before. I have understood the stages of writing a paper. One of the learning outcomes was to understand how to plan, draft, revise, and edit. Before I would just sit down the day of or maybe a few days before depending on how large the assignment was and I would just write the whole paper. Now, I like to outline, write a little bit out, fix it, and continue. Using this method that we learned in class has helped me with time management a lot. By planning and having drafts way in advance of the due date, saves me a lot of time when it comes to writing the final paper. In future classes I will try to set my own schedule of when these dates
When I reflect on my writing capabilities, I find that I am very comfortable in terms of avoiding run-on sentences, comma splices sentence fragments. Writing complete sentences and having proper grammar is a skill that comes very easily to me due to the fact that I am extremely cautious of writing mishaps and making sure my writing sounds and runs smoothly. Although I did watch the videos provided, I feel as if they confused me more than they did help me as much of the English vocabulary used I have rarely heard. Even though I am comfortable with my writing, I still did in fact download Grammarly as I thought it could help me in the other aspects of my writing. I found that this program helps me f
It's good to be open to learn new habits to improve your writing skills. I agree that it is important to practice everyday for it to become your new habit. That is why they are called habits. It's a word that usually have a negative connotation tied to it but not all the time. I have a habit to look over the paper multiple times, too, to correct it. Usually I tend to overlook my mistakes, though. Nice to hear that you're are developing good writing
The course English 2 provided informational work that can help further my writing skills in other courses. I have always had a hard time with grammar when it comes to typing papers or in general speaking. I really did not understand what a thesis statement was before this class, while I still struggle with thesis today; I have an understanding of what a thesis should be. It should be a statement and not a question, which I originally thought was the thesis. One of my favorite parts of the course was learning the definitions of ethos, pathos and logos. The terms really add a lot to describing events in the world or adjectives in an essay. One of my favorite parts of the course was working on the bibliography, which I had never done in any course.
The writing process I have used over the course of the last twenty years has not changed or evolved very much at all. I have never been exposed to an in-depth course on how to write well. I have never enjoyed writing, and due to this lack of passion in writing, I have never sought to improve this critical skill. Keep in mind, this is a past paradigm that I hope to alter through development of better writing skills and habits.
My writing skills are decent, if I take the time to fully process my thoughts. When it is a timed assignment or test, my skills go right out the window, I concentrate more on answering the prompt rather than the grammar, punctuation, or structure. It’s like a jumbled mess of writing filled with lots of errors. When I’m writing my main goals are to answer the prompt, have good structure, and no grammatical or punctuation errors. These goals sometimes get in the way of me expressing myself freely; if a sentence doesn’t flow right with rest of the paragraph, I will re-examine my paragraph or paper to see if I can conjure up a sentence to finish out my paragraph before moving on to the next paragraph. Another example is if I feel like I don’t
Coming into an “introductory” English course, I was completely oblivious to what was coming my way. In my head, I thought I had a pretty good understanding of basic grammar and composition. Although I already did, new material and tips assisted me throughout the semester to improve my paper writing skills overall. I however thought we were going to be involved in more in-depth writing skills rather than learning where to add a comma or semicolon. This isn’t implying that they weren’t helpful at all, I really did understand the usage of semicolons and colons much more than I have previously thought I have, however, I wish we focused on skills that could be used in every situation. What skills? Not sure, I haven’t learned them yet, or I have yet to be introduced to such skills that could make my writing skills look from amateur level, to a college professor level. My grade isn’t exactly where I would want it to be, it isn’t a bad grade at all, however I feel like I could of taken this introductory course a bit more serious to have easily being to achieve a high grade.
