In 1865 when the American Civil War was close to the end, a French historian Edouard de Laboulaye suggested that France should create and give to the United States a statue that would symbolize the nation’s success in building a viable democracy. However, because of the lock of money, the work on the statue didn’t start until the end of 1875. The creator of the statue is the French sculptor Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi who created the statue out of sheets of hammered copper and Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel, the creator of Eiffel Tower created the statue’s steel frame. The female form represented by the sculpture is based on Libertas, the Roman goddess of liberty. The statue was given to the United States and was
2b. Describe your development process, explicitly identifying the computing tools and techniques you used to create your artifact. Your description must be detailed enough so that a person unfamiliar with those tools and techniques will understand your process.
The artifact represents personal objects and meaningful moments, person influence on our own life. This is one of the assignment in our program to share our artifacts toward our colleagues and professors. This will take in more about different culture, uniqueness, identity and values of our schoolmates and how they reflected in their life.
They also learned how to dissect what the questions want you to answer and how to provide evidence to their answers. As a result of creating the artifact, I learned that it is important to be fully prepared with the lesson going to be taught. I learned that my students have difficulty identifying what information is important and which is not. I utilized graphic organizers in order for them to distinguish between the two. As for what I learned as a result of implementing the artifact is that the activities were good and strategies were well implemented which benefited the students in organizing their thoughts. Pertaining to the artifact, what I would change in order to improve the artifact is to praise the students with specific praise instead of simply stating good job and to redirect the student by asking questions on the topic at
The Ancient Egyptian artifact that I chose to analyze and is the most interesting piece I have seen in the museum is the Cartonnage of Nespanetjerenpare. The artwork itself was larger than me and that was one of the reasons why this artwork was very interesting to me, since I am a fairly tall individual. It was created during the Third intermediate period that was around Dynasty XXII or the twenty second Dynasty of Ancient Egypt and was possibly acquired from Thebes. The dynasty was also known as the Bubastite dynasty which was approxamently from 945-718 B.C.
This Statue represents Thirty-nine Baltimoreans who died in the battles Lady Baltimore commemorates. This occurred between Sep. 12th and 15th in 1814 and plans for the monument in their honor began not long after. This statue represents the city of Baltimore. During the weekend I went to visit the replica statue and made an evaluation. The texture looked to be smooth her dress looks to be loose fitting and draped there are multiple lines and her hair looks soft, the statue looks to be showing motion as she holds her arm up with a perfect balance. She has a crown that sits on her head, the color looks to be fresh and clean being as though the new statue is only 3 years old. I saw a lot of space around the statue. I thought the Statue looked beautiful and I am honored to have seen it. I also gathered information about the original statue it stands 52 feet above ground, both of the arms have been broken off over the years by a combination of wind and rain and also has ruined the statue's eyes, nose, and ears. Underneath the monument, there are 18 layers of stone which are the number of states in the union in
The artifact I brought is a photograph of my sister and I at the Taquitz Falls, in Palm Springs California. This picture represents a successful hike that brought many tribulations my mom, sister Kailli, and I had to overcome during our adventure into the blazing desert.
As you travel and visit a tourist location such as Washington D.C. , you see monuments such as the Lincoln Memorial or the Washington Memorial. If you ever wonder the purpose of that monument could be or making and placing history as a view for everyone could see. A memorial can consider, though region, material, how large, and the significance of the stone can mean honor achievement for those who sacrificed the wars.
The Statue of Liberty, also known as Lady Liberty, for me is the most intriguing part of New York City. It is a symbol of hope, freedom, and a better life in the United States. It is widely known that Lady Liberty was the first thing immigrants saw when they came to America, this architectural structure was a symbol of hope and freedom. What intrigues me the most is, Why would France just give us a an expensive copper statue? I never understood this until right now, everyone knows what she symbolizes, she is the Statue of Liberty. The word 'liberty' is related to the word 'liberated', which means to free. For example, U.S. soldiers helped 'liberate' Jews from the concentration camps in Germany after World War 2. The statue was given to us to represent freedom, the concept on which our great country was born on. Not just any freedom, a true freedom, a freedom in which we are not subservient to a king. In a sense, we are being liberated from being servants to the kingdom. It is our country and we want to protect and defend it because we are fighting for a cause, not just some person who wears a crown because of the family he was born in to.
This artifact is related to our project because it was discovered and named as footwear but more precisely a sandal. The sandal is related to art and fashion because it was worn for clothing and any type of clothing can have one kind of fashion. The sandal
Choosing an artifact for the box was an easy decision. I chose to put a picture of my dog, Chocolate, because he is very important to me. He is a two year old Schnoodle (half Schnauzer half Poodle) who we rescued from the animal shelter. It will be exciting to look back at what he looked like as a puppy. The artifact portrays me well since I love my dog and he is a big part of my life. It shares
There are few objects that can be compared to the significance of the figure known as the Statue of Liberty. It is one of the greatest works of its time and still stands today as a meaningful entity of independence to the world. The statue is a great tribute to the concept of global freedom that had its roots in America. It was created to display the worldwide objective of peace and tranquility. The fact that another model of this icon stands today in a world capital shows the effect that this figure has inscribed upon the world. In addition, it represents the ideas that the United States was built upon and those that the people have lived by to this very day. Its most paramount features in its role through American history are its
The second cultural artifact is the poem "Stars Over Dordogne" by Sylvia Plath that was written while she was visiting France in 1960 and was published in 1962. The version of this poem that I am using comes from the Soomo learning resource (Section 2.4.4 Literature Gallery). In this poem Plath compares the dark sky and lonesome stars of her home to the showy and bright sky and stars of Dordogne. The contrasting imagery of the two locations is coupled with the feeling that the artist is using the stars and sky of home to symbolize herself.
The object that I chose is “The Bucintoro on Ascension Day, Docked in Front of the Doge’s Palace”. This painting was created by Canaletto on c.1745 and the material of this painting is oil on canvas. “Canaletto was an Italian painter, who was active in Venice. He was born in 1697 and died in 1768. The Bucintoro was the ceremonial boat of the doge, the ruler of the Venetian republic. Each year, on Ascension Day, the doge and other officials boarded this vessel to participate in a ritual celebrating the marriage of Venice and the sea. Here, the assembled group can be seen lining the dock. The painting is dated by the jagged edge of the bell tower, which was struck by lightning in 1745” (The William L. Elkins Collection). The object is one of
