Hi Philisha, I understand your dilemma with the APA format requirements as it wasn't required in my past educational experiences, but if we continue to practice, I am sure we would overcome this obstacle. I also agree with you about providing adequate time to complete our assignments. By doing so, we can allow time to proofread our work and utilize the sources available. Time is also an aspect I struggle with throughout this educational journey. Being a fulltime mom and employee places a greater stress on me and limits my time to complete assignments. However, I know that with practice and time management we will be able to get through the semester.
Throughout the course of this semester in AP Lang, my eyes have been opened to many of the weaknesses I never knew I had in writing. Coming into this semester, I had heard about the difficulty of this class, but was not unduly worried about not receiving an A; I have always considered myself as a competent if not strong writer. However, after failing to attain desired grades on several important essays, I was devastated, and realized that although I had mastered the basics of grammar and writing, there was still much for me to work on. Also, I did not understand that much of my grade in AP Lang would be determined by speaking in front of others, which is not my strong suit. What I have come to find is that writing essays containing all of the new information we have learned throughout the semester, such as requirements for different types of essays and good writing strategies, takes a lot of work, time, and thinking. Unfortunately, my procrastination caused me to only get done what had to be done instead of putting in the extra work and truly understanding everything.
Over the course of the past few weeks and writing practice AP essays, there have been a variety of issues that have popped up within each essay. I would like to discuss with you some of those weaknesses and ways that I am going to work towards fixing those mistakes in the next few months.
After reading through the class syllabus a few times, I get the impression that AP English will be a significant departure from my previous english classes, especially in workload and our power to determine our essay and discussion. Prior to this class, I have taken honors English 9, 10, and 11, with Derry, Armstrong, and Brewer, respectively. Though the specific focus of each class varied, all three, English 9 and 10 particularly, followed a similar pattern of reading, guided analysis and discussion, essay writing, and assessment. Almost all of this was very structured, such that I felt that our essays were pretty formulaic. Additionally, much of the class discussion seemed superficial in places, often discussion time was cut very short,
You should be proud of yourselves for all the hard work you have done in this course. This course is designed to teach you to speak well publicly, listen to your coworkers, and write in a professional setting. In addition, learning and practicing APA formatting will help you in future courses. When writing emails it is always important to proofread and rewrite your work to avoid errors as it is a permanent record of your communication abilities. If you catch all the errors in this email, I will give you an extra credit point in addition to the assignment points. Students always appreciate extra credit. Whether or not you catch them all, it will be good
A lot of things happen in humans’ life, ups and downs, rights and wrongs, choices that can be optional and unavoidable choices. Among those choices, I chose to be here at University of Arizona, studying Electrical and Computer Engineering. As the requirement to be student here, I took English 107 class in semester of spring 2017. Being international student in a foreign country is not easy. At the first time I came at UA and the first general education class I took required me to write 10 page research paper, in APA format. I ended up writing 3 10 pages essay in order to pass the class. At that time I was taking English 106 class, but I wasn’t that much ready to write 10 page research paper. Now, after taking English 107 class,
When I switched out of my other class and registered to take Buddhism I honestly did not know what to expect out of taking a world religion as a class course. But, of course thinking like a young college student I thought to myself “ Hey, why not a class like Buddhism just might be interesting to you and you always been open minded to learning about different religions anyways”. The whole idea of enlightenment being the primary goal of Buddhism was very interesting to me in the beginning of class. I also agreed with the saying that “ the “three poisons, “desire, hatred, and ignorance. These are the state of mind that motivate the performance of the non virtuous deeds that in turn produce suffering”( (Lopez, The story of Buddhism, p 46) because it relates to what goes on in the world and the generation today. In class Mr. Hayes used to turn the light on to represent that when you are following the path of the Buddha you are awakened and when the light was off you are in the dark or suffering.
Hi class, I hope you enjoyed this days at elementary. Back to reality you have to do...
These classes include AP Government and Economics,AP European History, AP Chemistry, IB Math/AP Calc AB, IB Biology, IB History of the Americas, IB Psychology, Honors Chemistry, and Honors Pre-Calculus. The IB curriculum is a very rigorous regimen that requires very strict time management as well as keen collaboration and oratory skills. I have shown my affinity for success in a challenging academic environment . Taking AP classes simultaneously has strengthened my ability to cope with pressure and heavy workload I have been placed in the top 9% in my school with an academic GPA of 4.19 and I have achieved in the 99th percentile on both the PSAT and SAT
I am interested in Child Psychology, so hopefully we get to touch on that a bit. I will be taking three other AP classes; AP Biology, AP English Language & Composition, and AP U.S. History. Sophomore year I took AP Human Geography, and I wanted to start off with at least one and continue forward to see how it was, so I've bridge the gap. I will manage my time this upcoming school year by taking Panther Time to study, do homework, watch lectures, and often chill especially on Friday's or at the end of the school year. I have a lot on my plate this upcoming school year which is totally expected and I know time is precious so every minute should be spent wisely. Something you should know about me is that I am going to be a Junior which is bittersweet for me. I am quiet once the school year begins typically but I should adjust once I get to know my classmate and my new classes clearly. Another thing is this year I am working on bettering myself such as remembering to turn in things I've already completed (that's my bad memory), less procrastination (I am getting this done early), and just being organized and on track not just with school live but on an everyday
I took a reading quiz in my AP Language class recently and I did not do very well in it. I had read the novel but the questions were very confusing for me. My score in the quiz was below a 50 percent when I ask my teacher why I did get the 50 percent rule she said I did not meet the minimum requirement to get a 50 percent. My current grade is not doing very well and if it stays at a low grade, I will not be able to boost it later. So, I wanted to ask you if you think there is anything I can do to boost my grade?
Jiro Horikoshi, a young Japanese boy, he wants to become an airplane pilot but cannot become one because of his nearsightedness. Jiro dreams of a famous airplane engineer, Mr. Caproni, who tells him that designing airplanes is much better. Five years later, he is traveling to college by train to Tokyo University when suddenly the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 strikes. Here he meets Nahoko as she asks for help because her maid has broken her leg. Jiro carries Nahoko’s maid back to her family and then leaves without giving his name. Fast forward to 1928 and Jiro has graduated from Tokyo University and is working at Mitsubishi designing planes. He is sent to Germany after his previous plane design fails testing and is asked to design a plane for a fighter plane competition sponsored by the imperial army. His designs fail again and he disappointedly decides to take a vacation at a summer resort. He meets Nahoko again and they become engaged but she has tuberculosis and will not marry until she
When I first started writing APA style papers I had no idea what I was doing or why I had to write the way I was. I would get so frustrated when it came to grading time and I would get marked down points for a period being out of place, or a world being capitalized when it should have been a lower case. When you are forced to follow the rules, but do not know why the rules are there, frustration is soon to ensue. This course has shined a light on all the things that once frustrated me and has helped me to understand the importance of this writing style. That does not make it any easier to write a perfect
Beautiful mind was about a man John Nash who developed Schizophrenia over the life span of his adult life. The movie started out about the time John Nash went to college. Nash was a mathematical genius going to school at Princeton University. Nash struggled to contribute to serve as his legacy to the world of mathematics. During John Nash college experience, he starts to show signs of obsession about his project he is working on. Nash was awkward when it came to time to socialize with his group of friend and women. Nash was very blunt and turned everything into a mathematical equation. While at Princeton after being told his plan for his mathematical equation just was not going to get him a spot. Nash went back to his dorm running his head into the glass. This is when Charles Nash’s roommate intervenes and tries to calm Nash down. Nash then again became obsessive over his project but it ended up working to his advantage and ended up making a mathematical breakthrough in history. Nash ended up graduation Princeton. He gets a job at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a teacher and research position. During His time as a teacher and researcher he has went to the Pentagon and helped the military crack a code. This is where he met “big brother.” Big Brother offered Nash a job to break codes to help find the placement of the lost bomb that the Russians are trying to hide. This is a dangerous job and Nash was the perfect person for the job because he had no family
At a young age money, politics, or first world problems never occurred to me. Sadly, as I grew older all of these things hit me at once. From when I started my first job at fifteen, this thing called “taxes” took money out of my check. At that age, my mother showed me all of the bills she has to deal with such as, house payments, insurance, and car payments. My entire world was turned around on that subject. This led me to start caring about America's crises and why it's so stressful being an adult. After bringing a kid into this cold harsh world, this subject concerned me beyond belief. A flash of the real world hit me in the face hard. Starting with the little things, this is how the 2017 presidential election changed my view on this world and my world as well.
The coaches blew their whistles, a loud, blaring noise compared to the quiet giggles of the seventh grade girls. The whistles had signified that the game was over. Unfortunately, Keystone Oaks had won against the Canon McMillan girls’ gold volleyball team, which meant that my game was next. Our first away game! I was excited, but my joy was ephemeral once I realized how good the seventh grade Keystone Oaks team was. Of course, I would not let that frighten me. I played as hard as I could, giving it my all, and I was not ready to let them win. As fate would have it, we lost. But this event is a great example of how I am awkward, defensive, and somewhat stubborn. I, unlike most others, love competition, as I become a lot stronger, phisically and emotionally, when faced with challengers. One could also say I am funny and mischievous, as I act like a ‘class clown’ when with my friends. But what really outlines me as a person are my family, hobbies, and aspirations.
