Introduction A lot of things happen in humans’ life, ups and downs, rights and wrongs, choices that can be optional and unavoidable choices. Among those choices, I chose to be here at University of Arizona, studying Electrical and Computer Engineering. As the requirement to be student here, I took English 107 class in semester of spring 2017. Being international student in a foreign country is not easy. At the first time I came at UA and the first general education class I took required me to write 10 page research paper, in APA format. I ended up writing 3 10 pages essay in order to pass the class. At that time I was taking English 106 class, but I wasn’t that much ready to write 10 page research paper. Now, after taking English 107 class, …show more content…
I agree with difference between academic speaking style and informal-everyday speaking style that are stated in the article. The “limited English”, which means usage of vocabulary and grammar of the English is limited. Moreover, Amy described her mother’s broken or limited English as percentage of people’s understanding. She said while some understand 50% of her speech, some understand 80-90% of her speech, some understand nothing from her speech, the author understand totally everything of her speech.
As same as Amy Tan, writer should know their audience and the purpose of writing. During the process of writing, I usually try to read the essay that I am writing as I am the reader. Therefore, I can see my grammar mistakes and misconceptions. During the process of writing the Project 1, after I finished my second draft, I started doing my different homework. Then after 2 hours, I looked at my essay as a reader that does not know anything about the topic. I tried to find the misconceptions and I think I found it effective method to use.

I am required to take three more general education classes at UA, in order to graduate. If the general education classes require me to write research paper, I am almost ready to write a paper that can get more than 90 points. There will be a lot more things than the GenEd classes in my academic life, I will be writing a lot of engineering research paper in the future. I have been using the given readings as the reading source, and writing my journal responses. I have wrote thirteen journal responses in the English 107 class. One of them is the Baca journal:
Jimmy Baca is a person who has very unique experience of learning language, and being literate. There was a very shocking part in the reading. The part with the guy started like reading and writing, and he understood how the reading and writing is great. First, the readings opened his eyes, then he really liked to write and feel it. Then, he fell. He fell into a death of emotion and mental. Later, he got up with full of emptiness in his body, he began to write much more by following the sounds from his
Writing was never a known weakness of mine. However, I could never confidently call it a strength. Throughout the course of this semester, my writing style has evolved and I have rid my writing of many habitual mistakes. I have learned to appreciate writing much more, and enjoy the moments where my mind meets words on a paper. Creativity has always been one of my strong suits, but through this course I catered my creativity to compose a variety of essays and speeches. Likewise, public speaking is something that I did not struggle with in the past, yet the structure of the class required a video speeches which was fairly new to me. All in all, I have been able to identify and modify gaps in my composition of writing and speech as a result of this course.
Whenever I get a writing assignment for class, it seems like a chore. I don’t have a problem with writing, but papers always seem to take more time than they should. Maybe this is due to poor planning on my part, but essays are usually an ordeal, and I dread actually doing the work to finish one. The task is simple enough, but putting it off always seems like a better alternative to writing. I do think about the paper that I have to write, but I do not put thoughts and ideas into a paper or outline until I absolutely need to do so. From the moment I am given an assignment sheet, I begin brainstorming about the paper. I may not use any of these ideas, but I think of them. I also have a tendency to forget good ideas, which leads me to think
When I looked over my ePortfolio, I couldn’t believe how many pieces of writing I
I do write in a different voice than the one that I use in my personal day-to-day interactions, but it also depends on the style of writing and the situation. There are various kinds of papers that I have had to write in my academic career, such as, persuasion, argumentative, literature reviews, research, reflections, compare and contrast or descriptive. My voice in these different types of papers changes depending on the style I am writing; I am still the same person, just portraying my personality and voice in a different way. I believe this is one of the easiest ways to appeal to a certain audience and to attract people to read your writing.
I love to write and help others with their writing. Though I do not have experience with writing and editing for pay, I do have experience writing and editing for pleasure. I have experience in many other fields as well. This Fall of 2015, I will be schooling online at Southern New Hampshire University. I will be working on getting my BaI want to write for Teen Scene because the idea of it being written for teen by teens is very unique and interesting. I'd love to be apart of it and help grow your audience. I see a bright future with this platform. Also I feel like my writing style would be appreciated here. My writing style is fun and easy to comprehend. It's not uptight at all, but still sounds literate. I have a way with words, I've been
Every day consists of writing, whether it is informal or formal. Writing comes in different forms including, emails, essays, text messages, and even note taking in class. I have gathered materials and assignments in my major to analyze what kind of writing is required and how it should be executed. What I discovered was surprising, but almost every piece of research revealed that writing is not incredibly important in my field of study.

When writing essays or summaries, I would have to normally revise my papers to make sure that I do not have any mistakes in my grammar or writing style. However this year, I have noticed I have improve in my style and grammar. However, I have not fully understand how to fix my style or how to fully understand grammar in my papers. Over the semester, I gained an awareness of my style that I use in my papers. Normally my papers are full of errors that I do not catch when revising them and I have learned to catch my mistake by printing out my papers and editing them by hand instead of using the computer. When editing my papers it works to read and look at it on paper as I would see mistakes that I would never see on a screen. Through this strategy,
I think what I struggled most with was the descriptive language, and vivid language to paint a picture for my audience. I thought writing in the past was going to be a piece of cake, but once I learned more rules when referring to the past in writing, I found myself worrying whether or not I used the right tense of transitional phrases and active verbs. Also I think trying to incorporate similes and metaphors were hard for me because I felt silly when adding these weird and odd phrases. Or perhaps it was just weird to me because my similes and metaphors didn’t seem so clever or at college level. I would say this paper stressed me out because I struggling adding the dialogue, and knowing whether or not I included it correctly
Equivalent to your writing style, I have also implemented a direct approach. I prefer to inform the reader, because I like to relay the facts, and present information that people are oblivious to. Furthermore, in my opinion, people have forgotten the significance of using correct English. We are living in a time where abbreviations and slang are the norm and essentially, people are becoming lazy with their speech, which in turn affects their writing.
At the beginning, I learned how to write my paragraphs properly and towards the end, I learned how to write an essay. For example, when I'm writing a paragraph, it's important to be more clear and specific in my topic sentence to get the reader to understand my point of view and to draw the reader's attention. For example, in my essay, I wrote “arranged marriage” as my topic. My professor taught me the correct way to write “my arranged marriage” as my topic. Then, I prove the topic sentence by giving clear examples and details information. At last, the conclusion of the paragraph has to wrap up the whole topic. Then, I learned how to write an essay with a better introduction, background information, and thesis. Also, I learned to have more examples and supporting details in paragraphs by comparing and contrasting, cause-and-effect, and problem solution. Before taking this class, I did not know how to write an essay. After learning this information about writing an essay, I can write a good
When I’m starting to write, it seems there are always distractions, e.g. my Dad has the TV on loud, the dogs are barking, etc. It’s difficult to focus, and makes it next to impossible for me to concentrate on the task at hand and carry out what I have set out to do.
Sometimes when I look at the writing styles of my peers, be it on social media, emails I can sense a distinction between the different writing styles that are used. When I’m writing whether it be in an email, text or a lab report I try my best to write everything more formally and longhand, which a lot of people tend to overlook in today’s society.
High-Frequency Words: The most common words that readers use again and again. Many high-frequency words are tough to learn because they can’t be easily decoded.
There are many writing styles that many people pick up as they go through there many years of schooling. Each person picks up the same type of writing styles but as years go by people seem to pick up there own little types of writing style that separates them from everyone else. As I have gone through many years of English classes I have acquired more and more skills and many more are sure to come as I continue my education. My writing skills have only gotten better from the time of ninth grade English class until today. Since my days back in junior high school I was only taught the basic skills to write papers and since then they have grown to make me a decent writer. I have many strengths and also
