Teacher Education Program Reflection Essay I have learned many things in my Methods semester, either through the classes themselves, or through my observation hours. I learned that handling different learners isn’t like learning about them in a classroom, and that technology is one of the most important aspects of student life. I learned what my goals are, and what my strengths and weaknesses are as well. During my methods courses, I learned that one of the most important jobs a teacher can do is prepare my students for the future. As year after year passes, technology becomes more advanced, this means that what I grew up learning and how I learned that content has changed. As a teacher, it will be my job to prepare my students for what to expect in the future, and I understand that I am preparing students for jobs and markets that do not exist today, (as Facebook did not exist until 2004, but is now providing over 4 million jobs across the world) and could be created while they are in school or after they graduate. Inn my methods classes, I learned that I must implement technology into my every day lesson plans and curriculum, so that they can be prepared for what future technology has in store for them. While watching my cooperating teacher complete a lesson, I noticed that we were not basing our lessons from anything other than a large binder that contained a variety of games. There was no lesson plan that I noticed, and no TEKS that were being covered. The rules were read for the students, most had already played this game so it was not elaborate, and me and the other teachers sat in the stands and watched and made sure they were following the rules. If I were to teach this class, I would implement the TEKS, as well as different stations to allow me to provide feedback and teach actual skills. During my observations, I was faced with a difficult task of calming down a child that had some sort of emotional break down. The size of my class is large enough, that it requires two teachers to be present during teaching, however, my cooperating teacher had left the room and the other teacher was delivering the rules of a game that the students were about to play. This student proceeded to spit on the door,
Technology of the past 20 years has become a focal point of teaching and learning. As a teacher, it is my job to facilitate the learning for an individual by creating an environment that not only conducive for learning, but also places the child in a position to discover and learn them for themselves. Technology has given teachers to opportunity to take learning beyond the classroom, and has begun to reshape their role in the learning process.
This assignment will critically reflect and analyse a microteaching session I presented to my peers in a clinical placement regarding Nursing management of chest drains. I will define reflection; teaching, learning and the rationale for choosing this topic will be clearly outlined in this paper. The preparation, planning, implementation and evaluation will also be incorporated. This assignment will be structured using Gibbs (1988) reflective model cited in Modular Training Course, 2003 because of its simplicity. Analysis will permeate through each stage of the Gibbs reflective model. Finally I will conclude by reflecting on my role as a joint practitioner outlining areas of personal, professional growth, identifying my strength, weakness
Schools need to embrace the new world of technology and encourage it. Students are changing, teachers must change too(10 reasons) Teachers education needs to be modified to reflect demand of moderate classrooms. Students deserve educators who will teach in a more open and productive atmosphere. Teaching with technology and teaching about real life skills could be what is needed to encourage students. Students want to learn skills that they are actually going to need later in life.
The advances that technology has made is a bit amazing and scary. We as humans depend way to much on technology. We have become less sociable with others since cell phones have come out. People have become more into their self, and have exchanged real relationships with those that are created on a computer. I am really concerned with the fact that schools are becoming more and more technology based. I think sometimes we need to go back to the basics when it comes to teaching, but that is just my opinion.
The 21st century has brought about an age of increasing technological advances and accessibility of resources. There is absolutely no doubt that technology has made it easier to access endless resources. You can find answers to both simple and complex questions in seconds. There are informational databases that have cause to be extremely helpful when researching a particular topic of interest. Due to the countless opportunities that technology supplies, schools have been implementing new curriculums, which enforce the use of technology for all students. Although, the question remains, how is the use of technology impacting progress in classrooms, and what will happen as technology
This experience allowed me to see what I’ve learned so far this semester being put into action. Hearing about a technique in class or reading about one in a textbook is much more different than
In the next three years I hope to see technology more evenly spread across the learning spectrum. Currently the core classes are the ones bursting with technological capabilities, which allows our teachers to reach the 21st century learner by being able to connect with them at their level. The 21st century uses technology for everything; they have digital calendars, notes, and they visit one another through virtual facetime sessions. We need to adapt our teaching styles to be innovative with technology so we can teach our students the timeless skills otherwise known as 21st century skills. We need to teach to the unknown, so that our students can be prepared for their
It is crucial that students are not just being educated in only one way. Each child is different; as a result, learning styles should be versatile and open to new strategies. By learning to use technology correctly, teachers are preparing themselves, and the students for the future by developing certain skills that will be essential in the 21st century. Besides developing the students’ technology skills, students will
The education system around the world has progressed and changed in a plentiful amount of ways, and the concept of knowledge and learning has changed in modern day. For example, certain schools around the globe are moving on to implementing technology in classrooms because it provides many benefits and statistical research that states how students are improving their academic readiness because of the instant access to information, a greater engagement and interactive process in learning, and the personalization that instructors can do towards the educational experience that students receive. The benefits of technology in class can be rather debatable, for there are people who think it's a distraction, but it certainly seems to be beneficial according to the increase of passing percentages in schools.
The standards I am strong in are Standard 9: Foundations, Reflective Practice, and Professional Development, Standard 10: Collaboration, Ethics, and Relationships and Standard 4: Instructional Planning. While student teaching I took any available opportunity to reflect on my lessons or the lessons of others with my cooperating teacher, Peggy Hotopp. I also worked each week to focus on a specific teacher education standard. I wanted to make sure that I was growing in all areas of education, while giving myself time to reflect on the week as a whole compared to my day to day reflection with my Peggy. I did this to better myself as an educator and gain valuable insight into the profession from experienced professionals. Peggy often commented on my willingness to reflect on everything I observed or taught. “I appreciate the fact that you are willing to reflect on what you have done and ask questions when you don’t understand” (Hotopp, 2015). This skill will help me improve my instruction as I progress as an educator. It will also help me build on my collaborative skills by reflecting with others.
As we navigate through the 21st century, technology in the classroom is becoming further predominant. iPads are replacing our textbooks, and we can research any desired topic on our smartphones. The impact that technology has had on today’s schools has been utterly momentous. Educators have now seen firsthand the numerous benefits of technology in the classroom. According to a study by IT Trade Association CompTIA, around 75 percent of educators have come to the conclusion that technology has a positive impact on the education process. Educators have also recognized the significance of developing these technological skills in students so they will be prepared to enter the workforce after they graduate (Cox). By incorporating technology in the classroom, teachers are setting our students up for a successful life outside of school. The increase of technology has even changed how teachers teach along with how
Standard #1: Throughout the entire semester I realized how different each student learns and develops at different paces. When teaching my lesson plans or doing an activity with a student I would always have to gauge how I was going to work with each student because everyone works differently. Some learners are visual, some are hands on etc. So when I sat down to work on something with a student I would keep in mind their learning style and their ability. For example, some students were reading full length chapter books while other students were beginning to read intro chapter books. I think understanding the way a student learns is crucial in effective teaching and best practices.
The education world has been greatly influenced by rapidly changing technology and the increasing availability of information. Schools have advanced by leaps and bounds when it comes to incorporating technology into the learning environment, however, many more advances need to be made. In all areas of the country, educators are trying to help students keep up with technology, but there are more changes that are essential for preparing the next generation for the future.
Walking into the first two weeks of the EDU program I desired to experience what it would be like to be a future educator and have a grasp of how to help the molding of our youth and giving them the possibility to become future leaders. Doctor dresser was able to bring in a Concordia alumni who had just begun to experience his professional education, career and is teaching multiple different grade levels as a young teacher. When he first walked into the classroom my first impressions were that unfortunately he looked very inexperienced and unsure of what was to be expected of the lecture I thought to myself in the position of a younger student in his classroom this is a person I would not take seriously. He then proceeded to communicate
I think this course has more prepared me for teaching in higher education through providing various perspectives and considerations around diverse challenges within a teaching and learning environment. This course taught about effective teaching practices that encourages a teaching professional to
