To make my volunteer hours, I assisted with two different events. The first event that I assisted was at the Baptist church in Calexico Ca. The name of the persons in charge is Lupita and Santiago. The second event that I assisted was at the Buckling Park in El Centro Ca. In both events, I had a really good experience, and I learned different and interesting things.
To start with, my learning experience and the knowledge environment working with people with disabilities stared with Lupita and Santiago. One day Lupita and Santiago went to our class to make a presentation of their testimony. I love their story, how I loved every testimony that I have heard in my classes. However, the next Saturday from the presentation that they did will be an event with them. I decided to call Lupita to go to make some hours as a volunteer. She said quickly that I can go to help them that Saturday at the event. The event was a wheelchair car wash. This event started at 8:00 am. at the church. I have the opportunity to meet different people with different disabilities. Everyone was so nice and respectful. At this event, the volunteers would help to clean the wheelchair of the ones who use wheelchairs. We were about ten volunteers at the event. We learned how to disarm a wheelchair and to assemble a wheelchair. Lupita was the first person who we started this adventure. I said this was an adventure because everyone was having a good time learning, washing and enjoying this activity. Honestly,
During my volunteer hours I learned a lot about my own community I that I have not been able to experience. For example I have never been able to participate in so many writing programs and workshops in my local high school, this is because I also did not attend my own local high school because my mother did not allow me to instead, she asked me to attend a charter school. By partnering with LA826, I was able to attend different writing workshops where I would help different high school student write essay, cover letters, and personal statements. Furthermore I believed that most of my activities consisted of just being able to listen to some of the students.
I began volunteering at a non-profit organization in Burbank, Burbank Temporary Aid Center (BTAC). This organization focuses on assisting homeless and low-income individuals and families. They provide various services:
During my time volunteering at Wilmington Health and Rehab and The Woods at Holly Tree, I learned a lot from the experience by talking with the residents and observing. To be honest I was quite nervous when I started to volunteer. Although I’ve been to elder center before because of my grandmother, great grandmother, and volunteering with my church but, I was never around a big group of elder people I didn’t know. After my first day of volunteering I felt a lot more comfortable and it felt rewarding knowing I was able to help make their day. In this essay I will be discussing my experience, any myths or stereotypes that were presented, several theories, and any diversity I observed.
Assisted young children between the grades of preschool to 8th grade in their education. I decided to volunteer because the children of today will be the children of the future and the more smart and educated they are the better they will be in the future. Another reason I helped was because it is hard for young children to adapt to the lifestyle of constantly moving from one place to another. Since their parents are migrants it can have a negative impact on them and their education. I remember one little girl is from Florida but every summer her parents move up to Michigan to work in the fields, but once the harvest is over they move back to Florida. She was behind in school and with the help of teachers and myself we motivated and helped her out so she was able to catch up. I really enjoyed volunteering the past two summers ago at the summer migrant program. If I had another opportunity to help I
There's a tired saying “walk a mile in my shoes...” that's been modified to all extremes.
The painting called The Volunteer’s Return (The Kunstmuseum Basel Oil on canvas, 97 x 77 cm.) was made by Swiss artist, Frank Buchser in 1867. Based on the title, we know that the painting represents the end of the American Civil War which lasted 4 years (1861-1865)
Peace Corps Volunteers are widely dispersed in the countries where they serve. However, Peace Corps medical supplies are often located at the post headquarters which can be over a days travel for many Volunteers. When Volunteers use the medical supplies that have been provided by Peace Corps they need a way to request replenishment of their supplies so the medical staff can send them out with the next quarterly replenishment schedule.
After becoming a member of the National Society for Leadership and Success, I participated in countless hours of volunteer work for my community. One particular event that I always attend is the Raid for Kids. This event is a community Halloween event that provides children with a safer alternative to trick or treating. The event occurs on the University campus during day light hours and is supervised by volunteers and organizers. Later on I joined Habitat for Humanity in Albany, Georgia. Last year we participated in neighborhood clean-up projects. Recently Albany, Georgia had a destructive tornado that wrecked havoc on the city. So after the storm we came together to offer our help to people who were less fortunate than we were. This service
My volunteer experiences taught me that I value the physician-patient relationship of primary care medicine. Although volunteering in the E.D. showed me the excitement of emergency medicine, I found myself wondering about the follow-up care for the patients. Through other volunteering opportunities, I discovered that people of all ages and mental capabilities, including those with dementia or special needs children can build relationships when treated as equals and enjoy being listened to. Finally, my five years at the C.A.R.E. Clinic taught me the importance of adequate medical care for all community members. Together, my volunteer experiences influenced my life goals of becoming a rural primary physician who has the ability to serve and build long-term relationships with all patients. (798)
Volunteering in both a children's hospice and a hospital has given me the chance to significantly develop my emotional resilience and proficiency in communication, due to the contact with a variety of people and experience with children who are life limited, which can be very important in the health sector.
In an attempt to end the fight against hunger one must experience it in some way, shape or form. Whether that be through personal experience, the stories of others, volunteering, research, etc. you have to have some understanding as to how individuals are effected. This important in finding the right course of action or the right solution. These past few weeks have opened my eyes to many different experiences and I am inspired to be more active in the fight against hunger, locally, domestically and worldwide.
The United States, as some can say, is a country known to be a hand in help. Although, they are a help by choice not mandatorly. In the United States there is a great amount of volunteers for many volunteering programs. The amount of volunteers increase through the years for different causes. There are volunteers for schools, churches, sport clubs, and even more. Not only do Americans volunteer but also make donations. Americans do this sincerely from heart, not because it's a law.
On my volunteer day, I was doing a ride along with a police officer of the Salt River Police Department. Riding along with a police officer was a very good learning experience indeed. The officer, while staying cautious and being aware of his surroundings was a very pleasant and professional person. He was very educational, sharing their visions of the police department and that they are committed to deliver quality police service to the people. Crimes are reduced and public safety enhancement is what they strive to achieve for the community.
1. Looking back over the times you have volunteered at BIC , what did you find most surprising? Describe it in some detail. Why were you surprised?
During high school I was one of the leaders of our high school volunteering organization. I have volunteered NTFB, Texas Discovery Garden, Angel Tree for the salvation army, Race for the cure, YMCA turkey Trot, Blood Drive of 2014, the Balloon Festival, and the MLK convention. I was also the founder and the leader of the middle eastern club. I was a member of our high school student council and a member in LULAC. I was also the treasure in our high school’s choir. I worked at my high school’s admissions and testing center. I also volunteered at the GO center which helps the students apply for scholarships and FAFSA/TAFSA paper work. All of this community work has made me understand what is the meaning of giving back to the society and helping
