Most students can agree that as writers, they have improved since the beginning of the term. For most their work ethic was lacking at the beginning because they believed they could breeze through the class, hardly trying and they would realize this would not work and I was one of those students. Ever since the first essay my work ethic has drastically increased. I would spend more time writing and revising my essays as the term went on. Because of the increase in work ethic, the quality of my papers also increased, as did my stress level. The increase in my work ethic, writing quality, and stress level all contributed to the increase in the grades I received on my essays. Most students in Composition I can agree that at the beginning of the term their work ethic was lacking or quite possibly not existent. Personally my work ethic was leaning towards the region of non-existent, but not quite there and this can clearly be seen with the quality of my first essay. The exemplification essay was quite possibly one of the worst essays I have written in quite a while. Chock-full punctuation errors, run-on sentences, confusing phrases, incorrect citations, and lacking college level diction, this essay was nowhere near the level appropriate for Composition I. This is owed to the fact that I did not try on that essay. I would procrastinate until the last minute, expecting a B level paper and when it came to revision, it was at the last minute. However, since that essay my work ethic
When I first decided to expand my education, it had been so long since I had been to school, and I was very hesitant. I talked at length about my decision with my husband and with his encouragement, decided to enroll but still was not quite sure which degree program to enroll in. I knew that this was something that I had always wanted to do since I obtained my Associates Degree in Nursing, but I did not have the courage, nor did I want to give up the time with my family and children. I second guessed my abilities and my knowledge because it had been so long since I had been in college. Now that my children are about to graduate high school and
I was pushed constantly to work harder at my writing. I studied and practiced several new techniques and methods for prewriting and organizing the essays I found so hard to create. At first, I had quite a few bad days and quite a few subpar essays. My grades would vary greatly from paper to paper. This really scared me, as I hoped to keep myself from drastically dropping in my grades. Yet, I wanted to maintain my grade point average so I had no choice but to succeed and impress around every corner. I began to pour in, even more, work and apply all of the newly learned skills from that class into my mind. I hoped that soon I would be able to find a system for writing that helped me form proper
Throughout the course of this semester, I have continuously grown as a writer. Prior to taking this course, I had little experience or knowledge when it came to writing. I used to struggle with forming my thoughts into writing, let alone a paper. I was never confident with what I wrote. My writing had no greater purpose other than the assignment. My writing process included: writing my paper, proofreading it, and turning it in. Once the paper left my hands, it also left my mind. Throughout this course we worked with others, visited the writing lab, wrote critiques, and we were able to revise our papers. I believe that all of this is has caused me to grow greatly as a writer.
If exceptional grades and numerous excellence awards are to indicate anything, I have succeeded academically thus far. However, such achievements are only possible because of my work ethic and determination. I pride myself on submitting my best work, pitting myself against my past performances. I remember my tenth grade English class; I was writing essays every week. I took every critique from my teacher and considered it for the next piece. Experience I gained from that class carried over into eleventh grade, where I achieved the highest English grade I have ever made. Even now, I look back at my older essays to help me write, so I know what works and what to avoid. Perseverance through school and desire to improve have carried me well, even through activities outside of my education.
I remember when I first came to the Wilkes University, one of my edifier (?) (Friend, teacher, mother) told me "Don’t judge your class in the beginning, judge your class at the end of course”. In the beginning of my classes I was very nervous about how to write an essay. However, I believe my writing skills has effectively improved. To be honest, English 101 wasn’t an easy class for me in the beginning. College writing is entirely different from high school writing. I always have trouble with grammar when I write English essays, and it’s harder for me to learn and improve my skills in a short amount of time.
My writing style throughout junior year has changed drastically. With each essay my motivation to write better went down. I started to do the bare minimum with each essay. I did not do a rough draft or double check any of my work. My first essay I wanted to do a decent job so I can start the year off with a good start. I wrote very clearly and did what the prompt said. After that essay I did not care so much about what I had to do to get an A again. Yes, this is very irresponsible of me, but as the year went on I lost my drive to do better. I think as a writer I have gotten worse, because I did not write to my full potential.
Essay have never been my strong suite. This semester however, my writing ability has improved. My progress is evident when I look over my assignment five essay and see the mistakes highlighted. These mistakes are what I now look for while editing my work. I am still improving with every piece of writing I create, but I revise differently by looking specifically for my weaknesses. I have been successful in my attempts because I do not make the same mistakes as I used to. I now use more resources than I previously did to embellish my writing process. The combination of these changes has greatly improved my final pieces of writing.
When I first started taking this class, I had a hard time writing my essays. The main reason I had a rough time was because the last time I had written an essay was in my freshman year of high school. I have improved on many things along the way. I now continue to improve even more. One major aspect that I have improved on is my revision process.
The first writing assignment helped to wipe the rust off of my writing skills from my undergraduate degree. Even though the length of the paper only spanned 250-500 words, I still treated the assignment as if it were a 15-20 page paper. The longer that I worked on the assignment the more I found that my skills Washington State University were quickly returning. Although the assignment topic was not specifically geared towards my degree,I found enjoyment in learning about something that I never would have. Simply put, I never knew writing in the workplace was such a problem! I cannot help but feel a higher level of sensitivity to finding errros in my own writing after reading the provided
When I started Composition I, I never thought that it will be so difficult. Before this class, I hardly managed to write a 200 word document; now, I am writing documents that contain 2000 words and I have been improving. Personally, it is very important for me to improve my writing skills because I want to be able to write a paper and have people understand it. During this semester, I have learned that a document is never completely perfect; every document could use improvement. The most difficult to write would have to be my Synthesis Essay, Media Analysis essay, and the Research Based Academic Argument Essay, which I will explain later. For these three essays, I had to first write it, then, I would send if to my teacher so that she could make comments and hep me improve my essay. After making the corrections needed, I would send the document again and I would receive more corrections. I learned that every time you reread your document, you can find grammatical or vocabulary errors that need to be changed. Also, I learned the importance of others
This class is very different than my high school classes, especially in structure, organization, and pace. I have learned that I need to be better prepared for the time essays are due and the amount of time and effort it takes to write a good essay that follows the guidelines. In my writing, I have learned that I tend to write in passive voice and I need to eliminate my vague words that I use. This class has been very challenging but the biggest challenge I have faced this year is trying to keep up with the pace of the class. I struggled with juggling this class and my other high school classes work load, but I have gotten better and I feel more organized and prepared now. I think my best work was my first essay, I spent a lot of time and effort
During this semester, I have strengthened my writing by trying new writing techniques, learning about purpose, and finding new ways of combating writers block. My first essay in this class was less focused then the essays I wrote later in
As a writer, especially as an international student, I should make extra efforts to write a good essay. In the class ESL273, I have learned how to write analytical essays with critical thinking, how to create an effective introduction with background information and a clear thesis statement, and how to organize an essay with the writing process skills, such as outlining and brainstorming. In addition, we have peer review activities in the class, which is a good opportunity for me to learn from my classmates and I can identify my writing weaknesses from the feedback. With all these writing skills that I learned from the ESL273 class, I think I have some strength in writing an essay because I am not a beginner anymore.
In the very beginning of the winter quarter, I always thought that answering the question or focusing on the purpose of the essay was what makes a good writing. I was never interested in the writing process and just saw essays as another assignment I needed to complete. However, throughout the quarter with different writing assignments, I started to grow an attachment to writing. This was possibly due to the central topic of the class was around migration/immigration. As a son coming from parents who were international students, I found an interest and attachment discussing about the topic of immigration and migration. MyWritingLab allowed for improvement on grammatical errors and understanding concepts behind each written works. Writing resumes
English class seemed to be the most dreadful to take within school. Writing essays for most of my grade in a class is not what I was looking forward too. When I entered college I knew that it would be one of many challenging classes I would have to take. Starting from the lowest English class to moving on up, the writing assignments became longer and more thought out. The time came when I got into this class that I knew more work was going to have to be put into essays and thus brought out what I had not seen before in my work progress.
