I do not have a rough draft of my essay. Regardless, I understand how I have improved in my writing skills compared to the beginning of the year. It would take me hours to write a paper. I could not write a single sentence unless it was exactly how I wanted it. When I wrote the Iliad prompt, I tried a new approach and composed what I thought and edited it later. I did not feel distressed over this paper, instead I was confident I could finish the prompt easily. When I finished, I emailed my brother the essay to edit it. When it was returned, he only corrected a few grammar mistakes and told me to edit it before I sent it. Then, I reread my essay and realized what I wrote was a poor essay. It contained a ton of errors and the sentences did
At first I was not sure what I should put, but then when I starting thinking about it, it came pretty easily. However I did have a difficult time thinking about what I can’t change because I try not to focus on that.
A person communicate different variety of ways, both verbally and non-verbally. Primates and other animals have been communicating without the use of language since long before humans invented verbal communication. Some scientists believe that even today, most communication between humans is non-verbal. Both types of communication differ significantly between genders and across cultures.
The writing process has always been a challenge for me. Especially if it has a due date. In the past, I have always procrastinated the process and that never ended well. I knew something had to be done and I needed to come up with ways to make writing a little easier. So, I sat down and I started to look at writing in smaller steps. I started to plan how I was going to finish a paper without getting so anxious and overwhelmed. This process has helped me a lot along the way and I am going to share my process with you.
Writing 101 has been a tremendous learning experience for me. It is not my strongest area, so it is my primary reason for taking the class. I took this Writing 101 class to improve my writing skills. In college courses, I have to do a tremendous amount of writing. Writing is also not my favorite thing to do, because it takes time, thought and research. The first week of class, we had to write the first assignment draft. I thought this class will be hard for me and difficult to keep up with the assignments. I disagree with my initial thought. The class definitely challenged me, but I learned so much. My expectation was to improve my writing skills. I would say I met that expectation. However, I feel that I need to continue to learn and perfect my writing to become even more proficient. I learned how to develop strong thesis statements, to conduct online library searches. I started WRTG 101 with a basic knowledge of the writing skills; now I know how to accurately use punctuations, I know how to develop unified, consistent and well-supported paragraphs, and I know my weaknesses in my writing.
The prewriting exercise I began with was freestyle simply because it was the first one on the list. I did not know what to start with, so I decided to make my life easier and chose the first one I saw. Like always my mind was blank and I did not know what to write about and then I coughed, this reminded me that all my little family was a little sick and began to write about that. Then I began write about a couple of things that I needed for class. The one that stood out the most was whether I should buy a digital voice recorder or not. I am not the best typist, so I had no problem with keeping my eyes on the keyboard and off the screen. I actually enjoyed this prewriting exercise because I was not distracted with grammar, punctuation, and spelling,
Starting a piece of writing has always been tough for me. There are times when I have spent an hour trying to figure out how I should start my writing. Now that's partly because of procrastination but main due to the fact that the intro to any piece is writing, in my opinion, is the most important aspect of any form of writing.
Most of us were in a situation when we had to say: “I am not too good at it.”, or “I can try, but it is not my field”. For example, somebody will ask me to draw a picture of a cat. I will try. I have seen cats before, know how to operate a pencil, have a flat piece of paper. I am even passing by art gallery on the regular basis, on my way to work. But I still cannot be sure you will not mistake my picture of a cat for a picture of a tractor or an intergalactic battlefield scene. That is how I feel about assignment to write about my writing process. So far, mine I can divide in three steps.
When it comes to organization, I had some ability making sure that my writing flowed and seemed coherent, but I had trouble making sure that the organization was the best it could be and allowed readers to fully understand what I was writing about. Coming in to the class, I knew how to piece an essay together so that the writing seems like it makes sense and the reader can follow it without getting lost throughout.
Over the course of my studies at university, I have grown and learned more about academic writing and numerous writing styles. I believe there is so much room for me to master my writing skills to succeed and complete my degree and improve my academic writing and personal skills through more practice. However, I have become concerned with my first attempt submitting my piece of paper through the online test in the Writers’ Diet diagnostic tool and was labelled ‘flabby’ in my writing. Analysing my errors and referring to the textbook ’Communication Toolkit’ by Grellier and Goerke (2014), also submitting my piece of writing to Grammarly and paper rater I was able to measure my weakness in the area of sentence structure, punctuation and grammar.
My writing experience about the career paper was more informative than I was expecting. By reading the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH), I quickly realized that there was so much information about a career in medicine, I was not aware of especially with regards to employment and predicted employment rates. However, the most difficult part of the writing process was trying to incorporate personal information into the narrative while using statistics and descriptions from OOH to come up with a coherent essay. For example, with a plethora of personal information and details about factors that has motivated me to pursue a career in medicine, it was difficult to summarize and incorporate information from OOH into my
Gaining the proper flow of words is what I have progressively worked on and improved throughout Comp One. I had to quickly adapt to the college writing process which at first seemed to be a challenging predicament. Soon, I realized how choppy and unproportional my writing was and have molded my skills to a more tolerable standpoint. I have chosen Three previously written papers with which I will reflect my ability to transition from sentence to sentence. The ability to write a completely smooth paper has unfortunately not been one of my various talents. Hopefully, after a whole semester of college english, I have improved.
My writing process isn't the typical writing process that most writers use. I normally just write what comes to mind, after reading a text. Then I go over my spelling and try to make sure it’s readable. Usually cutting corners to get my essay started.
Throughout my time in this course, I feel my writing skills have improved tremendously. I am now more capable of composing more organized, grammatically correct, and cohesive essays. In addition to acquiring many important writing skills during this course, I also learned how to write an MLA formatted essay. The many assignments requiring MLA format helped me to learn this skill, including the reflective essay, profile essay, MLA quiz, annotated bibliography, and the research paper. As a writer now compare to in the beginning of this course, I feel like I have a better understanding of how to structure an essay and how to properly write essays in a timely manner. The more essays I completed, the easier it became to effectively structure and make my essays sound as fluid as possible.
Writing is a fun process that can be done by almost anyone because you can develop your own style or type of writing. There is not a set structure that you have to follow while writing, making every piece as unique as a butterfly. These past few weeks of writing have made me notice a few different writing techniques and methods that almost trademark the style of my writing. One thing that struck me as odd about my own writing was that I start with the climax of the a story. Another distinction I found was that I tend to change the story and cut phrases out more than i write. The third thing I discovered was that writing a fictional story is smoother for me.
I simply wrote one draft without using any feedback from adults or peers. If I decided to use feedback on my piece, I know it would have been more beneficial to my development as a writer. On this piece I earned an 85%, in which I wasn’t satisfied with. From this, I was allowed to revise my piece, allowing me to go in depth into my writing to earn a better grade. Also, before submitting my revised essay, I asked my mom to read over my work to see if it would raise my grade. She gave me a few valuable pieces of advice that helped raise the grade on my essay to a 90%. From the Thematic Unit, I learned to improve my writing process to prepare myself for the future. At the end of the year, I was told to write my own essay about William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night novel, using my own writing process to be successful. My effective writing process included writing a first draft and completing self-assessment afterwards. The first step of my process helped me understand how my writing could develop into a stronger piece. After self-assessment, I wrote a second draft and had a peer review my work. Finally, I made a third and final draft in order to present the best version of my writing. As shown from the Soliloquy Essay, my writing process is
