You did a great job with the summary of these terms and I found your examples to be relatable. As you stated, most of us have heard of these terms before and I know for myself that I have with the exception of deliberative democracy. Although, this was not a term that I was formally familiar with, I have actually gone through the process when I have been in my sorority meetings for example. I believe it is important to understand these terms when dealing with various disputes because a common goal such as consensus can be something to keep in mind and to work towards as the conflict continues to unfold and progress is being made. It would be nice if every situation resulted in a consensus, however, that is definitely not the case so it nice
My most meaningful accomplishment in the last few years is the work that I did as Social Chair of my sorority. When I was offered the position, I knew there would be stress from becoming the sole representative of my sorority to the rest of Greek life and other organizations. However, I greatly underestimated the stress of being the bridge between my organization and others. I pushed myself to see my position through and felt a huge sense of accomplishment after I was done and able to see the work that I was able to do. I would measure my success by comparing the work of other social chairs to what I was able to accomplish. Not only did I look at past social chairs within my organization, but I also sought out other social chairs for other
Prom at Belleville West has been in the same place for the last 20+ years, Belleville West lunchroom. The tickets for Prom last year were $60, this year the tickets have increased by $15, but the location for it is still the same.
The aim of the reflective essay is to highlight my own personal development skills that I have developed during first semester of my module. However, in this report I will make sure my learning ability phase and what this module has allowed me to work and understand in improving my personal skills and purpose. My major aim is to develop and assess an in depth range of my personal traits as a student in order to endorse my future development plan.
If a group uses consensus, everyone gives something up and are not content with the result. Not everyone is satisfied in the end. An example of this is when Soledad Stephens, an Education Correspondent, states, "Everyone gives up something and no one likes the final result" (Stephens). An excellent example of people giving up something is when the lunch ladies in the schools need to use consensus, one picks ravioli the other picks hot dogs and they both decided to make ravioli hot dogs which ends up being a dreadful food choice. Clearly, not everyone always gets what they want and may also not be pleased with the result (Manny Ramirez).
Many democracies consist of majoritarian and consensual systems and it is important to be able to distinguish the difference. My understanding of majoritarian is a "winner takes all" concept. A majoritarian democracy consists of the majority rule of society’s citizens and is one that places no limits or constraints via a constitution on what the majority can do. A consensus by definition means widespread agreement, or absence of any dissent. Consensus Democracy seek out to resolve problems that the minority might have, possibly by making a compromise, rather than simply taking a popular outlook. I will elaborate in this essay the key differences in dimensions between a majoritarian and consensual system. The majoritarian model is always concentrated
Abstract: For this presentation the topic chosen was Flunk Day. Coe College has many grand and unique traditions, but none quite like Flunk Day. This day is one of Coe’s oldest traditions and arguably the most recognized. In this paper I will explain it’s rich history which includes the purpose, evolution, and current significance it holds to Coe College.
In Wim Wender’s Buena Vista Social Club, a sense provoking landscape is created through sounds and visuals of both Havana and the collaborative musical effort of the members of Buena Vista Social Club. Although we have examined many examples of landscapes through photographs and paintings, the documentary offers a unique observance of landscape through its incorporation of moving images and the sounds that accompany them. This is especially important when analyzing this film’s landscape, as the music embodies not only the main achievement of the group, but of the sounds of Havana and its past. Buena Vista Social Club offers an interesting perspective on how Havana’s landscape has crumbled, changed and disappeared, only to be reconstituted through
These are a few important key terms to understand when taking a look at the compromise that governments have established in modern times. These key terms include Machiavellianism, totalitarianism, and illiberal democracy. Machiavellian governments have to meet certain benchmarks to qualify as a Machiavellian government. Machiavellian themes include:
During my participation in my first co-curricular event at Westminster College, I was able to find similarities to several readings directly from our inquiry class. These similarities may have been related to the required reading assignments or even the discussions as part of our class time. Although many of these comparisons and observations didn’t particularly come to mind instantly. After taking notes and thoroughly listening to the two speakers, I was able to make numerous connections. Some being quite more obvious to uncover than others.
Science grows and evolves just as my inspiration for it does. I have furthered this interest of mine by deciding to dedicate my entire future towards impacting both science and others with my biology major. I have been impacted by science since elementary because since my first time completing a lab in school, I have always been intrigued by the fact the I get to make a hypothesis and later discover if I was correct with my prediction. Although I never won any science experiment event at my school, I never gave up and I was always curious about the way living organisms function everywhere. As a result of always winning a participation ribbon, I was not interested in winning any sort of prize for my science experiments and I decided to complete
This written task is a personal letter concerning the short story ‘A Respectable Woman’ by Kate Chopin, discussed in class for Part 4, Language and Literature. The letter is written to Adele Looscan (see photograph) by her fictional niece Mary. Mrs Looscan is the founder of the Ladies Reading Club in Houston (1885). In her letter, Mary hopes to convince her beloved aunt that she should discuss ‘A Respectable Woman’ at the Reading Club. The letter was written in 1894, shortly after the story was published in Vogue. It is known that Adele Looscan did not have any children but did have an ‘active correspondence with her nieces and nephews’. The tone is therefore quiet informal, Adele and Mary have a good relationship. Mary uses the
My prom night was the night my dream came true. And it was a dream I didn’t even remember I had, until I was in the moment and he brought it to my attention. Who knew that a sixteen (16) year old (at that time) would’ve been the one to bring my dream to life? Like a leprechaun out of luck? I didn’t have a date to go with me as the date for prom approaches closer, everyone at school already had dates, even my two (2) best friends had dates. I even decided to go alone; I went as far as asking my sister to be my date because I was still dateless at that point. So I wenrt ahead and bought my souvenir wine glasses that was given as a token to us from our school, I proceeded to go picked out the black and white gown I feel deeply in love with at first glance, booked salon

When is comes to using the word consensus there are several different meanings to it. Often referred to as “consensus decision-making” and there is many common elements that may define consensus decision-making, this includes:
I became a gender traitor amongst my fellow NC State students. I approached the task by going to Talley Student Union and spending several hours there while dressing and acting as androgynously as I could. As Butler (cited in Murphy and Simons-Rudolph 15) notes, gender is performed, in part, by what clothes we choose to wear; I performed gender by wearing a plaid shirt, a baseball cap, baggy jeans, and no makeup. In addition, I put my hair under my cap, to make it seem as though I had short hair. I wore tennis shoes and tried to act in a masculine manner. I talked on the phone loudly, used a low voice, and slouched when I walked. I used words like “bro” and “dude.” While I felt nervous in the beginning, I learned how to quell my nerves until the experience was over. People were surprised to see me acting the ways I did, but, overall, there were not as strong reactions as I thought there would be. The experience reinforced the idea of gender being a result of societal conventions (Murphy and Simons-Rudolph 1). The experience also made me realize how performative gender is, because, as Butler (cited in Murphy and Simons-Rudolph 15) notes, we learn gender based around what is, and is not, acceptable for our gender.
