In my free time, I volunteer at public parks and local river clean up that I know about through friends and emails I have received. In addition, at the beginning of the year I help kindergarten’s teachers watch after the kids, make crafts with the kids, and cut out various crafts that correspond with the book that they were reading that day. In addition, my friend and I would read books the children picked out towards the end of the year so they teachers could clean their classrooms or simple watch them while there was a movie playing. When I go back to school my mother and I make food bags and give them to the homeless in Mobile. During Memorial Day weekend, I help with a ceremony that takes place in the Alabama National Cemetery. I have partaken in several car washes with my classmates and clubs’ members to raise money for various clubs. My club Off the Leash makes biweekly runs to a local animal shelter to comfort the animals by giving them baths, cleaning up after them, and if we finish early we pet the animals. Another club I am involved in makes homemade cookies and pastries to sell them to the students to raise money for funding. I have volunteer at Shelby emergency assistance twice in which I help organize the food in the food panty after a food drive. On Arbor day, Montevallo holds a several contests to see the winners of various objects such as plants, soil, and something someone made. I traditionally help disperse these objects to the winners or help load them in their car. In addition, I have made and gave away recycled paper with seed in them for people to plant in the ground to grow flowers or herbs. I have also made cookies, homemade cards, and comforted people from the retirement home. One summer my family and I hosted two exchange students from Echizen, Japan, which is Montevallo sister
While volunteering, I checked in patients, helped organize charts, and worked as a receptionist. This allowed me to serve the underserved population and work with a diverse group of professionals. It was inspiring to volunteer at the clinic because I witnessed esteemed professionals sacrifice their time to volunteer at a free clinic in order to help the community flourish. This inspires me to follow in their footsteps when I become a physician. I volunteered at the community clinic my freshman year; unfortunately, I became extremely busy with course work that I had to stop. However, I have registered to volunteer starting August and I plan to continue working throughout my senior year.
On the 11th of November, the U.S. observes Veterans Day. On this day, we are meant to honor the men and women who have sacrificed so much of their own lives to serve this country. Whether one may favor the Army, Marines, Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force, or the National Guard, we should all pay our respects to all those who served both current, former, and deceased. But what is the purpose of Veterans Day? And why is it so important to observe this particular holiday?
In the course of my time at Union County College, I was able to participate in measures that aided my community and those in need. I took part in the donation and creation of care bags which were donated to the Salvation Army. This initiative was made by AESNJ as part of their statewide drive to help those who lack the resources needed to obtain day to day necessities such as hygienic supplies, socks, tissues and other essentials. Additionally, I made a financial contribution which went towards aiding Syrian children. Helping individuals in need encouraged me to participate in Strides against Breast Cancer a walkathon which generated money for women whose lives were impacted by cancer. The financial donations assisted women who were unable
I do many service activities for the betterment of my community and some examples are for instance in Texas for 5 years I volunteered at the Salvation Army during the holidays to pass out toys, clothes and food to families in need. I helped organize a breast cancer awareness fundraiser where we helped kids build box cars, sell raffle tickets, and barbecue to raise awareness and bring a twinkle of hope and happiness. I also regularly volunteered at the Shade Tree woman’s shelter here in Las Vegas. It gives me great joy that I can give my energy and time to those who are going through dark times with comfort and support they are yearning for.
During my childhood, I would always want to help out with moving materials and fixing them. These brought me to volunteer at some bigger activities that require to sell and give to individuals. At my school’s concession stores, I sold products for a basketball game. While doing these
I have participated in many activities that served to help others such as, taking my time to help at the Adult’s Day Care, help with anything that is needed at the nursing home, and on the weekends I would volunteer at the Youth Basketball Summer League by working at the concession stand, collecting ticket money, work for the scoreboard, and coach for my team. I also believe it is better to give than to receive. I donate money and toys to the St. Jude Children Research Hospital as well as giving to the Wounded Warriors. In addition to giving to the Wounded Warriors, my father and I participated in the cook off in honor of the warriors that have fought for our
Veterans Day in America should be a day that is more celebrated. Many people don’t give a second thought to those who have literally put their lives on the line to keep this country free. I feel like in order to honor those who have served and those who were lost in battle we need to keep our country educated. War is not happy, it’s not pretty; it’s painful and gruesome and we should educated our children and current generations about the risks our troops have taken for us and for the freedom of others.
Veterans day is a very important day in America. In the book it says to prove this, "We push an empty chair to the table for the missing soldiers soldiers that are not here."From this quote we receive that most soldiers die because they risked their lives for us. Jason's wife states in the video, "...a soldier risks his life for a fellow soldier." This is evidence that soldiers are brave and will do almost anything to protect another soldier or anybody else. In the video it says, "A war zone is probably one of the most chaotic things you can ever go through." This evidence tells us soldiers are brave enough to put their lives at stake to save us. American soldiers do all of this to protect the country, so that is why they should get a special
I currently have 85 volunteer hours, but I continue to volunteer. I volunteered at my local branch of Habitat for Humanity where I cleaned and restored furniture that was later sold. The profit was donated to local charities in my county. I also volunteered at the local International and Greek Festivals. I assisted the vendors at these festivals. These festivals expose the people of my city to different elements of many cultures. I joined and assisted the FSU Office of College Access Programs, which is an office at my local university where a group of college readiness programs are located. These programs provide help to high school students in my county, and I help by doing tasks for the people who work there and helping at their events. I volunteered at local museums and participated in The Second Harvest Food Drive, an annual event in which my school collects cans for our local Second Harvest Food
Veterans day as we know it is important to all American citizens and we should all know how to celebrate, and know the affect of what veterans have fought for, and what Veterans day actually stands for and how we should respect the day as it is. Teenagers in middle school and even high school don’t really think about the importance of Veterans day and what it really means to be a Veteran, being a teenager I know that the teens in our grade don’t even mention the day until it is mentioned by an adult. Usually to celebrate there is a parade held in New York city on Saturday November 11. During the parade there are about 25,000 people participating in the parade. Most people around the world are more concerned
When I go to Bible Study, I help out the little kids there and help them study. I also help around the school. For example, on the day of the Valentine's Dance, I stayed with my cousin and helped clean up after the dance even though I wasn't an NJHS member. I volunteered without hesitation. Also, the day of school orientation I helped my cousin (who is in the NJHS)give people their schedules. Sometimes when I finish all of my work early, I help the teachers. I ask them if they need help. I also help the custodians. I clean under the tables, so the custodian doesn't have to do it. That's basically what I do to help around the
I volunteer and participate in activities to better the community and my surroundings. Over the last three years, I have spent many hours working on our class activities including homecoming festivities. I worked nearly every concession stand that my class sponsored last year and a few concession stands that the clubs I’m a part of sponsored. For the last four years, I’ve been a member of the Eisleben Lutheran Church. In these four years, I’ve read scriptures to the congregation, participated in teaching during Vacation Bible School, and volunteered at dinners to raise money. I also helped the Speech and Debate club host a meet for other schools. For National Honor Society, I will volunteer for activities for my school and community without compensation.
During my summer breaks I volunteer at the Second Harvest Food Bank. I do specific shifts such as labeling meat products and packaging them or storing food boxes with non perishables (food cans, cereal boxes) and boxing them for one family. I am a current member of Key Club, it also partnered with Second Harvest. Every Thursdays, I help out in Key Club by cleaning the campus and recycling to make the school more environmentally friendly. Outside of school, I attend Aktion Club and monthly car washes to help fundraise for DCON and grow relationships with people in our community that are disabled. There were occurrences where I had to take a role in setting up events like in the Diabetes and Breast Cancer Walk, I was responsible making every
Veterans day means a day of celebration and also sadness. It means remembrance, and for some, memories we wish to forget. Some have died in the fight while others live to seize the day. Some come back unscathed, but those who don’t, carry their scars with proud hearts. We honor them with this day and thank them for fighting for us when we could not.
For example, on a Friday in October, there was a homecoming football game that me and my little sister went and volunteered for. Before the game started, the school wanted to do a barbecue for the people. We had to set up the grill for the barbecue, grab the utensils and the condiments to put near the table beside the grill, and get the beverages that was already in a ice chest prepped earlier. Then we had to set up signs for the game, made the stations for face painting, a snowball stand, a table for desserts, and a table for buying spirit shirts. Before the barbecue ended, and the game about the start, me, my little sister, and a few other volunteers helped to set up the concession stand to prop it up.
