Registered Nurse Research Paper When I started applying to colleges, one of the things I searched for was a good nursing program. Being a registered nurse has always been my passion because I believe that I possess the skill set for this career, and with the right credentials I'll be able to pursue nursing. Whenever I try to explore other careers, I find myself coming back to nursing. RNs typically work between 3 and 12 hours per day. This schedule isn’t a steady one, which can disrupt a normal sleep schedule, especially for nurses that work at night. They don't get as much time off as people in other career fields because there is always someone in need of their care, even on holidays. Stress can lead to what is known as a burnout, which is “a syndrome characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment” (Jennings 1). Burnouts can affect a nurse's work ethic in the process. When I become a nurse, I plan to take steps to lessen my chances of burnout by taking time off from work occasionally. The nursing field is very diverse. As a RN, one has the option to specialize in fields such as pediatrics, podiatry and gynecology. I’m interested in pediatric nursing, because I work well with children.I grew up around multiple cousins, some older, others younger than me. The older ones taught me the basics of general care, which I pass on to my younger cousins by taking on the responsibility of watching them. In addition, I spend most of my weekends and summers caring for and supervising children. This experience over the years has helped me to understand them, as well as make them feel comfortable around
