The humans fear for the unknown bring us to beg to a higher power
Religion has played a big role in the creation of society and community. We use Religion to make our laws and in some governments, how to rule the country. But now we forget about religion in our daily lives and one when the time comes, we beg for it again. “O brother where art thou”, is a movie about three escaped convicts running away from a work farm on a quest for treasure. Along the way all three of the men scramble for god's forgiveness as they face death, and a chances for redemption. Pete, a lasting pessimist throughout the story, shared little from his past. But he did reveal that he wanted to open up a fine dining restaurant. Delmar, a simple optimist, was caught

Pete was lured in by women, who fit the seductress archetype, knocked out the three men and turned in pete for his bounty. When Pete was turned into the sheriff for his bounty, he was whipped and then had his head placed in a noose when the sheriff did not believe him.Pete must of forgot about god, because he landed himself in they eyes of the law as a criminal, and when he escaped that got him a bounty. He was turned in for than bounty, and was tortured, almost hanged, then placed back on the work farm. After Pete is done being tortured he is put up to his noose. “Goddamnit! Cooley holds up one hand. The two men pause in fitting the noose. Pete is sobbing Godfer gimme!”. The example shows that Pete did not want to die, when he was shown the noose he was angry and he lashed out. But he was saved when he said “god forgive me” because Cooley must of saw he wanted another chance and saw he was afraid of dying. Pete Begged for his life even after leaving god in the back corners of his head, simply because he was afraid of death, the …show more content…
Everett denounced god and called religion in general a hoax. But when the time came to turned to what he had pushed away for so long. My theme is proven in the text plenty of times because Everett pushed away god and religion more than three times throughout the story. Everett had denounced god and believing in religion as a hoax. But when he was facing death, he dropped to his knees and prayed for his life. Everett said that religion was a hoax mulitple times. “For him, not for the law! I'm surprised at you, Pete. Hell, I gave you credit for more brains than Delmar.” “ That's not the issue, Delmar. Even if it did put you square with the Lord, the State of Mississippi is more hard nosed.” “Join you two ignorant fools in a ridiculous superstition? Thank you anyway. And I like the smell of my hair treatment - the pleasing odor is half the point.” “Baptism. You two are just dumber'n a bag of hammers. Well, I guess you're my cross to bear-” “Well ain't it a small world, spiritually speaking'! Pete and Delmar just been baptized and saved! I guess I'm the only one here who remains unaffiliated!”. There were much examples and those are just a few. Everett just seems to think that religion is a fake, and it has no real impact on your life in general. But in the end of the movie all three face the noose and Everett drops to his knees and prays for his life and for his family's. But after they are saved by the flood,
In order to make his response more effective, Albert Einstein uses rhetoric in his response to Phyllis Wright. In his response, Einstein takes the question of prayer and applies it to his scientific knowledge. As a very credible scientist and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Albert Einstein was a wise choice for Phyllis to write to. Moreover, in the context of this letter, Einstein proves to be a good choice especially when compared to what other scientists were accomplishing in this time period. Although he is a scientist, Einstein knows his audience by not overlooking the aspect of religion. By analyzing his audience, Einstein's purpose comes through his letter by concluding that it is okay to think outside the box and that the topic is ambiguous.
Popular culture is culture found in a large, heterogeneous society, that shares certain habits despite differences in other personal characteristic. Popular culture can consist of: a popular song, performer, movie or tv show, comic trip, “super hero”, etc.
One of the most outstanding characteristics of humans is that we have a moral conscience- the ability to distinguish between right and wrong, as well as understand the consequences of actions beforehand. Nonetheless, religion remains important to society because it helps to refine and provide a deeper understanding of humans’ moral responsibility. There are instances where either people ignore religious practices in favor of reason and logic or follow only religious teachings that suit a particular situation. Chronicle of a Death Foretold is a novella that typifies the failure of religion to unify people and provide a common course for understanding life. The story talks about Santiago’s fight against fate and the probability of escaping death that is foretold beforehand. The priest symbolizes religion in the novella and readers observe that his actions are similar to those of ordinary people. Ordinarily, we expect the priest to uphold religious practices and bring people together when society is divided on an issue.
Throughout most cultures and societies men are typically seen as the head of the family. They are the ones who provide for and protect the family. Certain situations lead to the separation of man from his family, which creates a window of opportunity for another man to take over. In order for man to remain in his head position, he will face and go through a variety of obstacles. Both Everett in O’Brother Where Art Thou? and Odysseus in The Odyssey face many obstacles in their journey home in order to protect their paterfamilias and oikos, respectively.
The battle between the relationship of science and religion has always been a controversial topic in society. It has been a subject of study since the classical era from scientists, theologists, philosophers, and regular citizens. It is understandable that the perspective on culture and religion are unquestionably varied due to different geographical regions, but why are there so many heated debates regarding the global discussion and what is it that causes those controversies? Is it possible that there is more than two outlooks and theories? Jerome Lawrence and Robert E.Lee contrasts the two perspectives in Inherit the Wind by bringing back an historical and legendary trial. Matthew Harrison Brady, an established lawyer in America demonstrates his ideology in God. Addition to Mr. Brady, his arch nemesis, Henry Drummond, defends his morals by expressing his vision that evolution is where human come from.
When Garrettson had supernatural experiences like this, they served not only as significant moments for him, but also part of the material that he recorded “for the good of others.” This new emphasis is connected to the shift in authority. People were no longer concerned solely with the opinions of the learned, and as such were free to value their own religious experiences as they saw fit. In such settings, people naturally turned away from common external influences, particularly in worship. The result was a renewed emphasis on individual experiences, such as those reported by Garrettson. Anne Hutchinson’s experience was scrutinized as part of her trial. Garrettson’s was accepted as a legitimate spiritual event. This contrast displays the influence of democracy through the increased acceptance of individual religious experiences.

O Brother, Where Art Thou? A movie was taken from The Odyssey an epic, both were away from their home for years. Neither Odysseus or Ulysses given up throughout their journey although the authors writen it in different mood and outcome of each event.
Both sides are covered with two Alaskan men, one being an atheist, and the other a Christian. The atheist got caught in a blizzard and cried out “Oh, God, if there is a God, I'm lost in this blizzard, and I'm gonna die if you don't help me.” (Wallace) Obviously, the atheist gets out of the blizzard, so the Christian asks the atheist if he believes in God now since he is alive. Being saved, however, didn’t let that turn his faith as he claims that the reason for him being alive is because of a couple Eskimos who happened to find him. Knowing that his audience is probably diverse in their beliefs, he relies on logos to make his next

Other people could not understand why Richard was not religious. Richard had said that, “My faith, such as it was, was welded to the common realities of life, anchored in the sensations of my body and in what my mind could grasp, and nothing could ever shake this faith, and surely not my fear of an invincible power”
The whole world has crashed. It is full of emptiness and miserable scenes on earth, where dead bodies are all around lying on the ground, demonstrating the massive destruction caused by people who attempt to conquer nature. For decades, every creature except for humans has been extinct; everyone who struggles to survive wants to murder and rob others, and some people even choose to practice cannibalism in order to survive. Humanity and morality established through billions of years by human ancestors since the Paleolithic period fade with the dignity of every individual. God is no longer above this world; he is tired of people’s unconsciousness and immoderation.
In everyday society, we are faced with diverse issues that force us to make a decision. Whether or not our decisions are right or wrong. In the movie “Dead Man Walking”, directed by Tim Robbins, he exemplifies the following actions throughout the film. Faith and doubt is a recurring theme in the course of the film. Where we see Christians, in essence, questioning their faith. We also notice a contradiction between the Christian bible and the Hebrew bible or as most people have come to know it as the Old and the New Testament. Conflicting themes have been argued about the Old and New Testament throughout the centuries. Also, humility is a key aspect to the film. The director discreetly implies it at the end of the film so we can make a
To Pray or Not to Pray: An exploration into the relationship between religion and isolation in The Stranger and Chronicle of a Death Foretold
Freud gives his insights about what he defines as religion and how the societal neurosis called religion can be expunged from our lives. Freud, in his book The Future of an Illusion gives his psychoanalytical theory in trying to explain religion and postulates that the phenomenon called religion is an imagination, a mere illusion that goes beyond questioning. He suggests that science will provide us with knowledge and explanations to do away with the religious neurosis and live a life where science will be able to prove everything. The following reflects the testimony of Sigmund Freud, if he was to be called upon as a witness in the trial of Warner v. Boca Raton.
