Since the beginning of time religion has always been a very influential part in peoples’ day to day lives. In some religions, you live your life based on the rules or guidelines in order to become the best follower you possibly can be. Also, in multiple religions, people very much appreciate and look up to a religious leader for guidance in their faith and lives instead of government which, is also very important to a lot of people. Many people believe that their government is the absolute superlative power there should be, and that the government should be the ones to make the final verdict. The question is; can religious leaders and government leaders ever work together to improve a country and its living standards? The answer is that the …show more content…
The foundation of religion and government are completely different from each other. Religion is built on certain principles that government has never contained. In Christianity, there is something that is known as The Golden Rule. The Golden Rule comes from a bible verse. In this verse it says “So everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 7:12). The leaders of any government have not expressed this rule throughout history. If a country does something to another country, their immediate response is to retaliate. Instead of doing what you would want to be done to you, they do the complete opposite. This is just one of the many difference to prove why religion and government cannot work with each other. If a situation comes up when religion and government are in power together, the leaders of the government would say far different …show more content…
In 1636 Roger Williams was banned from Massachusetts Bay for his religious beliefs. He later on went to find the colony of Rhode Island and all religions were welcomed. If the church had been separate from the government, Roger Williams wouldn’t have been banned from Massachusetts Bay. In this instance it comes to show how church and state cannot come together to solve problems or lead a successful nation. Secondly, in schools is where church and state needs to be kept separate the most. Children go to school to learn facts, and then be able to make their own opinions based on what they have learned. It is not right to force religion on someone who doesn’t know what they truly believe in yet. Religion in schools is also very controversial because of the amount of different beliefs there are in religions. There is no possible way that a school board can accommodate to all of them without someone becoming offended. Finally, secular states end up thriving better as a nation because they are able to be nonbiased and accommodate to all people without the fear of being punished based on their
Freedom of religion is an important value that should be an inalienable right to all individuals. Denying people the right to practice the religion of their choice is taking away their individuality. Therefore, taking away religious freedom from individuals is taking away the right to make individual decisions. In the Puritan society, which is depicted in The Crucible, the government was a theocracy, and when faced with individual decisions that did not coincide with the church’s teachings, the society and authorities panicked causing unnecessary uproar. The establishment of religion for a whole nation is unnecessary, and more often than not nations with one religion that is forced on all of its citizens are unsuccessful.
One is that on the way religion uses the money they obtain from to pay the government money, so the religious organization can elect whom they choose to be in the congress or presidency. These religious organizations have businesses such as fundraising organizations, restaurants, bakeries, oil companies and car companies that make them very rich. They then use this power and
In the United States, religion and government have been separated from one another for many years. The reason being is that there are so many religions these days, and people would argue about which religion would take political power, ultimately resulting in conflicts and fights. Many centuries ago, each country had only one primary religion which every citizen practiced. In Italy for example, their official religion was Christianity, and having Christian beliefs intertwined in government allowed Italians to follow their religions rules along with the rules the government has as well. While some people may think that having religion and government together would be a good thing, many citizens living in Europe between the 12th and 16th century did not.
Governments of the past were based largely on religious beliefs. Be that as it may, the theologies of a governed locale today may be so diverse that the very notion of having a government on top a religious foundation seems ridiculous. Instead, we judge others based on the lowest expectations of moral regulation and while these laws are primarily influenced by religion it is not the sole attribution. Yet, as I expound this there are still governments that are heavily built on religion, much like those of the past. Though, in spite of the respect held for such governments, these governmental bodies can be seen as less globalized, modernized, and in some cases, civilized. Some governments today, in retrospect, would be called taboo in the
After reading three articles, I think Christian response to government should be dissatisfied. It doesn't mean that Christians should start facing government as an enemy. As a follower, government might also need to consider the verses from Romans 13:1-7: “Because God has ordained government authority for our good, we must be subject to our government.” Oppositions are not always bad, it can also be the progress of success in the future. In my opinion, I think public office is depends on the situation, because sometime it can be either againsting Christianity or follow it. Serving military is not a bad thing, train our limits, make ourselves stronger, but people should notice that military is also same as “weapon”. Everything is a preparation
Church and State worked together and the differences of power was not an issue. I actually agree with how the East dealt with church and state. I feel when it comes to political or religious agreements, you should collaborate and pay attention to how everyone thinks and feels. For example,
The interesting thing about this style of governing is the way in which religion and politics fit hand and hand. There is very little separation between the ways
The American government. You trust them with your money and you rely on them to protect you when things go south, right? If you know any basic knowledge of the American system of control, then you should know that they aren't all they're cracked up to be. The government is extremely corrupted, filled with power-hungry parasites, sucking up all of your rights and money. The authority uses tons of things to their benefit, like for example, religion.(specifically Christianity) 76.5% of the U.S population are religious, 70.6% of them are some type of Christian, and only 22.8% are unaffiliated to religion. The bureaucracy has many ways of using religion to gain control over society, and most often it’s not cordial, or even close to it.
Religion supports the political authority and social elites through enabling fear to the lower classes of society. It provides the leaders of these civilizations the ability to produce fear in the lower classes of religious retribution, painting their idols as ruthless beings who when summoned, would end one's life at the hand's of the leader(s). Only the social elites have the ability to provide this religious retribution, thus allowing them to have control over the lower classes. However, this is not always the case. The adoption of certain religions by political leaders actually limited their restrictive rule over the lower classes. Many of the elite followed the demands of their religion, thus not allowing themselves the opportunity to more
I can't really think of a way to fix the problem of a country entirely based off of religion. Religion has a way of tearing us apart and makes us all blind to the real problems of life. The best idea I have is to find a way to somehow create a government in your own state without completely going against your "religion" and making everyone want to kill one another. I would start with that and try to settle the angry neighbors as well, if I were the King of
The accomplishments and success of civilizations are closely linked to their religious outlook and the role of religion in their governments and society. Throughout history rulers have used the influence of religions to control their populations and provide the justification for their power. A society with a greater degree of separation between religion and government promotes a superior level of liberty and creativity amongst its people. By the time of the decline of the Roman Empire in the west, however, the world had come full circle to a return to theocratic dictatorship.
God is the sole sovereign and his divine commands are used as the law in a theocracy. It is arguably right to say that control is held by the clergy. Theocracies are rare, but whenever they occur, they tend to be very permanent (Ferrero, 2013). Some major examples of theocracies that have existed through history include the Ayatollahs of Iran, the Taliban of Afghanistan and Buddhist regimes of traditional Mongolia, Bhutan and Tibet (Fererro, 2013). People are promoted into government positions basing on their religious affiliations as opposed to education or public policy like in secular
I am going to explain the government system at the national level and then how religion inter-mingles within
Throughout history, religion has proved to be the main source of social stability in different communities and cultural groups. Everything that is part of a societal system, including law, is influenced by religious beliefs and practices of that society. This being said, most religions are based on the theory that there is a single more powerful entity, that has control over aspects of which humans do not. For the longest time in history, sociologists have argued that peer group, political movements, schools and most importantly, the family to be agents of socialization. Because of this reason, they have ignored the role played by religion in the perpetuation of cultural as well as social
If you examine these theocracy governments, all the political leader will tell you that Islam has the answers not only to spiritual understanding or economic needs but for social and political order, as well. “Islam in this sense of government creates then defines and regulates the relation between man and God but equally between man and man and also women and this includes the relation between the ruled and the ruler."(Jamaal Diwan,2014 p.39).The adherents to the faith also advocate that the ideal society as one in which Holy Prophet lived in Medina and there is a call for Muslims to model their lives the way the prophet did during his time . Muslim politicians ask their citizens for supremacy according to the Islamic law, and put Sharia law
