Every human being possess flaws. Although many strive to be, not one person on this planet is perfect. Everyone makes judgments and forms stereotypes about others and sometimes those judgments are made based on true information, while other times they are made based on incorrect information. However, all these judgments are a usual occurrence in life; everyone makes judgments, including racist attributions. The film, Remember the Titans depicted two races, separated by racism, come together, transform, and become mulitculturally competent. Remember the Titans was based on a true story. In 1971, a court order forced three high schools in Alexandria, Virginia—two white schools and one African-American school—to integrate their students and faculty for the first time. As a result, Coach Bill Yoast, the head coach of the T.C. Williams High School football team, was asked to give up his position to Herman Boone, who became the school 's first black faculty member. Coach Boone did not receive a warm welcome by the school 's staff or students, and the newly integrated team was full of players—both black and white—who did not have much respect for one another. The problems that came from the racial diversity were obvious, but Boone was determined to form a winning team—it all depended on how he approached the game and how the team reacted to him—and his future relied on it. Against all odds, Boone helped his team overcome the doubt and misinterpretation and they became a force to
“How do Boaz Yakin and Tate Taylor depict historical content to develop the theme of racism in Remember the Titans and The Help in similar and different ways?”
Remember the Titans is directed by Boaz Yakin and stars Denzel Washington as Coach Herman Boone, Will Patton as Bill Yoast, Ryan Hurst as Gerry Bertier, and Wood Harris as Julius Campbell. The movie takes place in 1971, at T.C Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia. The high school had recently integrated, where both Americans and African Americans conjoin to the same school. The main social issue in the movie was racism, because the Americans didn’t want to be a part of the same school as the African Americans, but they play on the same football team. They also didn’t want to be coached by Herman Boone, because he was a different race from them and Coach Yoast coached most of the white players. In the movie "Remember the Titans" there are many lessons that every person should learn in their life. One of the most important lessons is that of racism. In this day and age some people believe that racism is over because there are no longer any slaves, some people believe that there is still racism but that it is ok. I believe that those people would benefit a great deal from seeing this movie. I know that there is still racism, I also know that it is not ok.
Prejudice, as defined in psychology, involves holding a negative attitude towards the members of a group, based merely on their membership of that group. Any group can be the focus of prejudice. A person, who is prejudiced against a certain group, has a tendency to overlook the individual characteristics or behavior of members of the group to whom he/she is prejudiced, merely because they belong to that group. In the film ‘Remember the Titans’ (2000), prejudice is portrayed in several ways, but mainly focuses on the discrimination of the African-Americans. One form of prejudice, which if frequently revisited in the film, is racism. Racism occurs when prejudice and discrimination are directed at people who are members of a particular
In the movie Remember the Titans, the plot shows clear examples of race and ethnicity discrimination and Sexual orientation discrimination. One of the first scenes that show the issue of race and ethnicity discrimination is when the coach (Coach Boon) house is being vandalized by the “white players” when they throw rocks at his house. It is evident that the players don’t want the Coach or his Family in the neighborhood due to the colour of their skin. Another example is When Julius walks into the room and is completely ignored by a group of White girls when he says Hi to them, the nature of the movie suggests that if Julius has been of Lighter Skin, the girls would have reacted differently to him by saying Hi back. An example of Sexual Orientation discrimination in the movie is when they refer to a male player as Sunshine as he is homosexual, it is even more evident in the scene where the group of football players are uncomfortable around the character Ronnie as he is homosexual. The behaviours shown in the movie are learnt behaviours, the discrimination shown in the movie shows that white characters are acting on their judgment against the black characters with no substance behind their behaviours, and no real reason for them to be acting that way. It is clear that Discrimination is a

An overwhelming majority of us have had some type of exposure to the 20th Century history of the United States. Therefore, a majority of Americans are aware of the racial divide and civil rights movement that took place during this time period. More specifically, this time period running from the 1960’s to 1970’s was one of vast racial tension and overall instability in numerous areas across the country. African Americans were able to finally overcome centuries of segregation and inequality by the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. However, as stated before anyone with knowledge of American history would know that the state of the nation following this decision was not one of tranquility and peace. Protests from both sides of the argument sprouted up in major cities all across this land of so called opportunity. Peaceful is best not used to describe the American people during these times. Williams High school of Alexander, Virginia. In this film, the audience catches a first hand
Most people don’t realize that the media play up the stereotypes and gender roles that are out there. Boone coming to T.C. Williams High School really upset many parents and students. When the parents of the football players found out he was going to be helping the head coach, Bill Yoast, many were fuming with anger. Why? Because he is African-American. Parents did not want their children playing African-American children in sports or sitting next to them in classrooms.
