Renaissance Art CP
The Renaissance took place from the 14 century through the middle of the 17 century. It was a time of social rebirth in Italy and the mid west of the world. It reconstructed the political, social, and religious status of society in this area. It was a revival to follow the learning and values of Greece and Rome once again in a world ruled by political stability and the desire for development and prosperity. This was majorly reflected by the artists of this time presenting the mysteries and wonders of the natural world in their work. During this time there were multiple artists of professional status, whom we still remember today and honor for their expertise. These individuals were the forefront of the Renaissance and

Multiple years of restoration attempts finally resulted in a restoration of the painting, but there were very few original strokes left of the mastery behind Leonardo Da Vinci’s paintbrush.
In relation to the story that the picture told, it was an interpretation of the supper which Jesus had before his hanging on the cross. The painting also represents the moment after Jesus reveals that one of His own disciples will betray Him, leading to His capture before crucifixion. It truly captures the distress amongst the disciples and the confusion, anxiety, and worry in their hearts. While in this moment of commotion, Jesus is found in the center of it all in a state of acceptance and found reaching for the bread and wine that He uses to show His love and sacrifice to the disciples. It is a painting that represents a turning point in the life of Jesus and these men.
Within in the painting, is there a sign of Anger? Confusion? Peace? Debate? As the men turn to converse with each other, appearing to fall victim of doubt and questioning toward the leader whom they had been following for years now and given their whole life to, they were experiencing multiple emotions. They wondered why He told them that He was going to let one of them betray him as He could just snap his fingers and prevent any event of the sort from occurring. They were of the human mind and
The Last Supper is a religious scene in the Catholic bible, which tells the story of the last meal the night before the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. An important role in its religion, the Last Supper scene has been recreated by artists many times. These visual interpretations of the event generally show Jesus, surrounded by his disciples. During the meal, Jesus breaks the bread and serves the wine accompanied with the command “Take this all of you and eat it… this is my body… do this in remembrance of me”. Three artists who have produced paintings of the Last Supper include Leonardo DaVinci, Jacopo Tintoretto and Salvador Dali. Each of these artists interpreted the religious event and recreated it in terms
The Renaissance was a period in history that began in Italy dating back to around the 1300s. It followed The Middle Ages and was considered a time of “rebirth”. The people of Europe increased much interest in learning, in the arts and in literature. It also provided the world with a big advancement in science and technology. People questioned old beliefs and were able to turn their miseries into optimism. The Renaissance changed man’s view of man in at least four areas: art, literature, astronomy, and anatomy.
From the 14th century to the 17th century the Renaissance took place and was consider the cultural bridge that connect the middle ages to modern history. During this time many spectacular things took place. Artwork was created that looked as though it were from the heavens. Sculptures were generated that looked as an angel had sculpted the masterpiece. The architecture that took place looked as though it were created from the 19th century. Many architects, artist, and sculptures were present during the Renaissance, but there was one person that stood out the most. He all of the abilities that three men combined did not have and his name was Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni. Michelangelo has many painting that our still around today,
The idea of the painting seems to represent the difference between good and evil. It also seems to be teaching us that in all situations goodness will persevere over evil. Peter Paul Ruben feeds us this idea when he applies beaming active colors to the faces on the characters in the painting. He does this in order to pull the observer into the overall theme of the piece.
In the right panel of the painting, the guards are shouting their orders to the men who are obeying because they probably would be killed had they not. There are dark clouds rolling in to cover the sun representing possible sadness, evil and pain. On the left panel of the painting, there are priests, woman and children cringing in fear and horror. This division of anger, hatred, fear and sadness evokes many mixed emotions. Reubens use of light and dark colors create a sense of emphasis and subordination. He puts emphasis on innocent characters such as a woman and children and Jesus. Everything else in the painting is dark and creates the subordination so that it is not the main focus in the picture. The one facet that brings a sense of normality back into the painting in my opinion is the random dog in the middle panel; it is neither sad nor angry. Perhaps this is Reubens attempt to truly represent the middle of the emotional realm in this painting.
In this painting I see a conflict between Judas and Jesus Christ. A bunch of men in a dark setting holding up torches dealing the worse possible outcome. Judas was one of the twelve disciples. Jesus Christ is standing perfectly still staring at Judas without hesitation and Judas is looking up at Jesus repeating
This painting depicts the scene from the Bible known as the last supper, where Jesus and his twelve disciples ate their last meal together before Jesus died. Dali is not the only artist to paint this famous scene, Leonardo Da Vinci, along with many other artists, created their own version as well. The difference is that Dali used his surrealism background to create this scene in a completely unique way. Instead of painting the twelve disciples of Jesus as individuals, Dali painted them symmetrically so that each man had another mirroring the same pose across the table. This element, along with placing the setting of the last supper in a dodecagon and showing the beautiful background, creates a calm and peaceful environment for the disciples to pray. Dali also created two focal points in this painting, while most artists tend to only choose one. The floating torso is obviously the surrealist element of this painting, but also completes the message that Dali is communicating. Though the three elements, symmetry, setting and focal points, Dali created a completely unique rendition of the last
The movement that was called the Renaissance is defined and represented as the cultural rebirth that occurred in Europe from around 1300 – 1700 A.c.. This period was based on the rediscovery of the literature, and culture of and from Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. In this time period, architecture and art flourished extremely. This was because and due to the fact that patrons of art wanted to display their wealth to and around the World. This would prove their worth. Some artisans that grew and thrived in the Renaissance were Michelangelo, Pieter Brueghel the Elder, Albrecht Dürer, Raffaello Sanzio, Leonardo da Vinci, Filippo Brunelleschi, and so many other skilled artists.
The Renaissance was a rebirth of the ideas of ancient Greece and Rome that began in the City States of Italy during the 14th century. The cultural resurgence began a new style of living in Europe after the horrors of the black death, and is seen as the beginning of the culture of the modern world. As Wassace K. Ferguson put in his book The Renaissance, the Italian artists grew tired of the darkness of Medieval Times and began to turn to the brighter times found in the classical ages (Doc 7). The Renaissance served as the evolutionary bridge between the Middle Ages and the 17th century through art, education, and religion by bringing a rebirth of the ancient Greek and Roman classics that would later define the world’s culture, while continuing the underlying beliefs of Medieval Times.
<br>At the bottom left side of the painting is a man about to be eaten by a termite who has a game table on his head. This is illustrating that the tables are turned on the man who has committed some terrible crime. In the Inferno this is represented by Lucifer eating the three worst sinners, Judas Iscariot, Brutus, and Cassius, all who betrayed their
The painting is oil on a canvas about 5 feet tall and 7 feet wide. It was painted on canvas because during the 17th century, wooden panels were expensive, hard to transport, and more likely to warp. With canvas, it simply became an act of obtaining a frame and stretching fabric evenly across, making it weigh less and unlikely to warp from humidity. Similarly, oil was used because of its flexible nature. The paints could be made of and used with numerous media with small additions causing great changes to color, viscosity, and texture. Since they dry slower than other paints, it is easier to change the color or texture to suit the needs of the artist and makes it easier to hide brushstrokes. When looking at the painting in person, since oil was used as the medium, the texture was smooth, but also had a rough texture from the fabric of the canvas. Honthorst must have added more paint for every layer to prevent cracks from forming, a technique created before his
The Italian Renaissance is best known for its cultural achievements credited to writers, poets, artists, sculptors, and “Renaissance Men” (or women!). Figures such as Petrarch (The “Father of Humanism”), Leonardo da Vinci (The ideal Renaissance Man known for the Mona Lisa, the Vitruvian Man, and many more creations!), Raphael (known for his painting, The School of Athens.), Dante Alleghri (known for his work, The Divine Comedy.), and
When I see the painting the shape is symmetric in the sense that there are the same amount of people on both sides of Jesus. The genre of this painting is Christian art. There are also four panels on both sides of the walls. In my opinion, the target audience that this painting was intended for are those who are believers of Christ. I feel this way because I think that this painting portrays the event that is talked about in the bible in the scripture Matthew 26, verse 21 where Jesus says “…"Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.". He then continues in verse 23 saying, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me”. In the painting, you can clearly see the man two seats away from his right reaching for the bowl at the same time as Christ. This event lead to the Holy Eucharist, also known as communion or the Lord’s Supper where Christ takes the bread which was to symbolize his body and wine which was to symbolize his
It is a scene which is shown after Jesus was crucified, where his body has been removed from the cross and his friends and family mourn over his body. Many artists have focused this scene by just painting four people: the body of Christ, His mother, Saint Mary Magdalene and Joseph of Arimathea.
The renaissance or “rebirth” was a cultural awakening which spanned from the fourteenth to sixteenth century. A growing interest in humanist traits and classical ideas heavily influenced the art during the renaissance. A growing community of artists provided much needed competition for their profession. The renaissance introduced many different and modern ideas but also remained obedient to classical belief. The unique art of the renaissance spread throughout Europe. Northern European art differed tremendously from Italian art.
