The word ‘depression’ has become a common everyday word. We hear the term ‘depression’ so frequently today, it’s even used in the contexts of jokes. Suit was filed about nine years after plaintiff was first prescribed the acne drug as a twelve-year-old. The prescribing doctor did not mention the risk of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) because he was not aware of it. When the FDA approved Accutane years before, it did not require a warning of possible gastrointestinal side effects such as IBD. Although the brochure plaintiff was provided warned to be on the alert for stomach pain, diarrhea and rectal bleeding, plaintiff did not experience any gastrointestinal side effects during the initial or subsequent times she used the drug. However, about seven

For most individuals suffering from depression, they do not feel like getting out of bed most days, you would rather stay there and cry, however if you do find the motivation to get out of bed you may have trouble doing every day activities, and even feel as if life is worth going on (Staff, 2015). Depression is an illness, it’s not something that describes a weakness within a person, nor is it something you can just get over. Depression is a disease that you want to take serious because if not dealt with in a timely manner or treated properly it can become serious therefore leading you down a very long, dark path which leaves you confused and scared.

According to Mayo Clinic, depression is a sadness that never stops, it takes a tole on your life, not allowing you to enjoy or do things, you used to before. Do you feel this way, as though darkness is all that surrounds you? As if no matter how hard you try to put on a smile, you end up angry, confused, sad? One can not say it is normal or that you will be okay, because even if there is a solution, the pain at them moment can just be too much. What is ironic, is that when one suffers from this illness, the first thing they ponder over is, why? Why do I feel this way? Why do I have to suffer? Before I begin, I would like to define what depression is and what depression is not. Depression is defined as “feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed.” (American Psychiatric Association, 2017). Depression is not just being sad for a day. To diagnose someone with depression an individual must have the symptoms related to depression for more than two weeks (American Psychiatric Association, 2017). Depression is not being able to enjoy or do the things you use to do. It is a valid illness. Now that I have defined what I mean by depression, I will get to my point.
Mayoclinic.org (2015) defines depression as “a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Also called major depressive disorder or clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. You may have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities, and sometimes you may feel as if life isn't worth living.” It also states that it is not a weakness and that it can be long-term.
