Bedtime was an enjoyable and engaging period where young children listened intently to elders reading endless amounts of stories and fairytales until these children reached a certain age of maturity and decided on reading the “big boy and girl” chapter books without any assistance. Therefore, many boys and girls had acquired enough courage to crack open and read the popular and major book series Harry Potter. From there on, children and adults alike were mesmerized and hooked on the magical and enchanting world filled with wizards, witches, and spells. However, as much as people can distinguish Harry Potter, very few are aware of the brain of it all, J.K. Rowling, who went through numerous hardships, setbacks, and

Princess Diana was only 8 years old when her parents got a divorce and not long after that they sent her away to boarding school with her two older sisters and her younger brother. While attending the boarding school Diana enjoyed athletics, music and art, but hated math and science. She especially enjoyed helping the elderly and the disabled. “The fear of death is the ultimate emotion human beings can experience” (Stojilkov 136). “Every little fear that humans possess whether it be of water, heights or of spiders is the true fear of one’s life ending” (Stojilkov 136). Death plays a central role in Harry Potter’s story and appears throughout the 7 novels written by J.K Rowling. It is demonstrated in these novels that mortality is linked with weakness and living forever is seen as the ultimate form of power for anyone living in the wizarding world especially the ever powerful villain Voldemort. Voldemort displays a fear of death and an undying need to overcome death in order to be an immortal villain feared by all amongst the

“Mom, can I read this book?” The child holds the book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The mom sighs. She knew that this problem would come up eventually. “No, that book is witchcraft and not for children.” The kid stomps his fee. He was annoyed that another popular book is banned. Outside, there are children screaming, “Accio, Expelliamus, and Lumnos,” on a Halloween Night. There are wands and lightning bolts in these children’s hands. Many student from my high school agree that Madame Schillerstrom, also known as Madame Sillystring, was the best teacher. For starters, she was one of the nicest teachers in school. She treated everyone with respect and in turn, we treated her with respect. She was especially nice to me; she let me get away with things. For example, we were going on a field trip to see the play Les Mis, but I forgot to get my permission slip signed. I then took out my blank unsigned permission slip and forged my mother’s signature right in front of Madame Sillystring. She gave me a look that said, “I’m going to pretend I didn’t see that.” Luckily, she accepted my “signed permission slip” and I was allowed to go on the field trip. In addition, she would

The British author J.K Rowling, who is responsible for fueling my imagination and creativity and providing me with an open-minded and loving community via her Harry Potter series, is one of the world’s most successful and influential writers. However, even after I’ve turned the last page of the final novel of the “Harry Potter” series, Rowling continues to be a great example of a role model, and remains being someone I will always look up to. Apart from her literary work, she has established and donated to various charitable organizations. The following paragraphs describe few of the many examples where Rowling shows how much she strives for change, especially for treatment towards women in the world and her fight against poverty.
