In an underwater palace in the Aegean sea of Greece, there lived Poseidon, the lord of the sea. Even though he was one of the superior gods of Mount Olympus, he spent most of his days deep under water. A long time ago, Poseidon and his brother Zeus, the god of the sky and the ruler of the Olympian gods along with his brother Hades, the lord of the underworld and the ruler of the dead fought their father Cronus. Together they destroyed their evil and vicious father who once tried to eat them in the fear of a prophecy that he would be overthrown by his own child. Since then, the three brothers had walked in separate ways and never reunited with one another. Nor did they look into each other’s eyes ever again.
For hundreds of years, Poseidon

Zeus demanded Athena to come to the underworld with them and Hermes provided them with his winged sandals for any unexpected consequences. Zeus, Poseidon, and Athena crept through the underworld and stopped in their tracks when they heard a monstrous noise. It was Cronus, their vicious, arrogant and selfish father who couldn’t see anyone’s good. Hades stood still looking terrified and full of regret. “I’ve never thought I’d see you two together again brothers.” He spoke to Zeus and …show more content…

“Quick take these winged sandals and leave the underworld,” Poseidon ordered Hades as he tried defeating his brother Zeus and his father Cronus. “The wings of these sandals are wet, I don’t think they will help me fly out of here,” Hades explained. Poseidon called upon one of his dolphins and together both Hades and he left the underworld. This wasn’t the end. Hades moved an enormous boulder on top of the entrance to the underworld. In that way, no Olympians could ever get in and nor could Zeus and Cronus get out. Zeus was left in there just to be eaten by his father Cronus.
From that time onwards, Hades and Poseidon lived on top of Mount Olympus with the freedom of having zero rules and Athena kept the lightning bolt using it only when she needs it. Little did they know, that Hades forgot to bring his helmet of invisibility from the underworld. Zeus is wise enough to know how he can get out of the underworld by being invisible. Therefore, he will
Poseidon is hit and goes down, so he thought. Out of nowhere the floor under Zeus crumbles into a blackhole of water under him. Poseidon from above him starts to smirk. Hades is missing the attention, he throws his mighty trident at his brother. Poseidon moves as swiftly and quickly as the wind but the trident was faster, and cuts his cheek. Poseidon, fures and hurt, he charges at Hades with his mighty trident.
Gods and mortals show displeasure when confronted by Hades. Most Greek myths situate him near to water at the edges of the earth, or the deepest depths of the underground. In this way, most of Greek society ignore or try to avoid him. Hades doesn’t get involved in Olympus festivities and doesn’t interfere in the normal world. Hades expresses reluctance to show his face in public. He leaves the Underworld wearing a headgear that makes him invisible (Taylor). Rarely worshipped by humans, Greek society believes Hades brings unluckiness to whoever speaks his name. Worshipping the God of the Dead didn’t sound good to most of Greek society. Worshippers of Hades, who went to Eleusis, a temple, were outcasts and often shunned by the “normal” worshippers because they didn’t conform to the proper Greek culture. As a result, followers of Hades worship in secret, usually in obscure locations where no one can
Once Zeus was fully grown he returned to his father’s realm and with the help of his mother, hoodwinked Cronus to drink an emetic that made him disgorge his children (Leadbetter). It was these children: Hades, Poseidon, Hestia, Hera and Demeter who helped Zeus wage the Titan war against Cronus. The women titans refused to help Cronus defeat the Olympians and even a few male titans helped aid the Olympians. After ten years of battles, the Olympians were able to banish the Titans into the Underworld (Titanomachy). It was after this war that Zeus seized the throne and divided the sky, the underworld, and the sea amongst him and his brothers. (Hades: the underworld, Poseidon: the sea, and Zeus: the sky.)
In one of his temper tantrums, Poseidon realized he was not happy with his ocean domain, and wanted to try and overthrow his brother, Zeus, and become king of the gods himself. Poseidon asked for help from Apollo, the god of light and music. Together, they bound Zeus with chains. Zeus had too much strength and power and freed himself very quickly. Zeus was furious with Apollo and Poseidon. As punishment, he sent them to work as laborers for Laomedon, the king of Troy, a city in what is now considered Turkey. Laomedon promised a very big reward if they could build a wall around the city of Troy. However, after they built the wall, Laomedon refused to honor his agreement and did not pay them for their work. In turn, Poseidon and Apollo sent a plague and a sea monster to destroy the city of Troy. (Gall.)
First off the origin of Hades himself. So his parents Cronus and Rhea had three boys, but as Rhea had the children Cronus ate them for he feared that once they were older they would
“The supreme deity of Greek mythology has his lusty, tempestuous story recast in engaging fashion by Stone”(ProQuest). Zeus was thought of as the father of gods and men. While he did not make them, he protected them, and therefore was considered a father to them. He ruled over the sky and air, and controlled everything that happened in his domains from his throne on Mount Olympus. To gain his throne, he overthrew his father, Cronos, with the help of his siblings, and then dividing up the realms between him and his two elder brothers. Zeus became lord of the sky and rain, Poseidon took the title lord of the sea, and Hades became ruler of the underworld. He then banished his father to the shadowy Tartarus in the underworld. Zeus was the most
The underworld in Greek mythology was not a lively place, for it was where all the dead souls went. When a person died, the soul would be sent to Hades, a more formal name for the underworld. "The dead would go to Hades because there was no annihilation in the Greek mythology. The dead are dead because they have a flavorless and unhappy existence".
“From this gaping crevice in the ground emerged the awe-inspiring God of the Underworld, Hades, and before Persephone could even think to utter a word, she was whisked off her feet onto the God's golden chariot. As the crack of the whip upon his majestic horses brought her to her senses, she realized she was about to take into the black depths from which he would come. The thought of this brought terror to her heart, yet any screams of protest were soon lost within the darkness, as they descended quickly into the Underworld
He also had a helmet of invisibility that he received as a gift from the Cyclopes for the Clash of the Titans. He married Persephone daughter of Demeter whom he kidnapped and carried down to the Underworld. Hades was the oldest son of Cronus and Rhea. He was devoured by Cronus along with his other siblings at birth.
Hades is the gloomy god of death. He rules over the underworld and everything under the ground, including the buried dead and everything that is buried with them. This included coins and other treasure.
When the cyclopes were locked in Tartarus, Zeus was fighting the Titans. Gaea told Zeus to go to Tartarus and unlock the cyclopes and also their brothers, the Hekatoncheires. Zeus freed them. The cyclopes were so grateful that they made a lightning bolt for Zeus, a cap of invisibility for Hades and a trident for Poseidon. With the Cyclopes help the Olympians won the Titanomachy.
Hades announced. Poseidon gets his way and starts his brainstorming. He orders Hermes to tell Athena to come down to the waters. As soon as Athena arrives they begin to generate ideas. They take a look underwater and see all the possibilities for light.
Hades, the evil genius, is out to seek revenge on the other Gods because he feels he is unappreciated and powerless, compared to his all mighty brother Zeus and other family members. At the beginning of Hercules, Hades was simply a mistreated God who Zeus had selfishly forced to be the God of the Underworld; a dreadful, miserable place where souls go to suffer. Hades rarely has an important role in the lives of the other Gods, who spend their time living on Olympus; a wonderful and lively kingdom. Hades is jealous of the fortune of the other gods living on Olympus. He states, “but unlike you gods lounging about up here...I regrettably have a full-time gig...that you, by the way, so charitably bestowed on me” Hades is the ruler of the underworld, as he calls it, a dark and gloomy place, as well as, always full of dead people. So he feels he has been treated unfair and deserves more. Unfortunately there is no way to change this fact, unless you are Hades of course. Hades, being the evil genius he is, has a plan to take revenge on the Gods. In this plan he intends to destroy Olympus and rule the Gods forever. Because Hades is less fortunate than the other Gods, he is very overlooked by them. He feels that he has been put in a place where he cannot truly be a
The twelve Olympians did not always control the world, but they finally gained control by fighting a series of wars with the Titans. The twelve Olympians were Zeus the leader, his two brothers Poseidon and Hades, his sister Hestia, Zeus’ wife Hera, their son Ares, Zeus’ children Athena, Apollo, Aphrodite, Hermes, Artemis, and Hera’s son Hephaestus. Because the twelve Olympians were supreme then the gods of the Titans, they won the fight and Zeus took the throne from his father. After they had won, Zeus and his brothers divided the world and Poseidon took the sea, the underworld belonged to Hades, and Zeus became the Lord of the Sky. Poseidon was officially one of the gods of Mount Olympus, however, he spent mot of his time in the sea. Hades,
