David, “Davy,” Crockett, also known as the, “King of the Wild Frontier,” was born August 17, 1786 in Greene County, Tennessee. He was one of nine children born to a family who followed the movement of western settlement. As a young boy, around eight years old, his father taught him to shoot a rifle and he eagerly accompanied his brothers on hunting trips. At the age of thirteen his father insisted that he enroll in school but only after a few days he got into an altercation with a bully and ran away for fear of punishment from his father. James Bowie was one of the most famous figures in Texas history. Bowie was born in Kentucky on April 10, 1796, but grew up in Louisiana. When he was young and still lived in Louisiana, Bowie worked as a land speculator for several years. And, even though he is considered a Texas hero, many of his land deals were illegal and based on fake titles. Bowie is mostly known for inventing the bowie knife. However, the bowie knife wasn’t actually invented by James Bowie. It was made by his brother, Rezin Bowie, and was made famous by James. Some people think that the knife was first recognized when James Bowie was in a duel with the sheriff of Rapides Parish, Norris Wright. Even though Bowie had been shot and stabbed he was still able to kill the other man. This duel became known as the Sandbar Fight. His knife became famous after the Sandbar fight and many other fights in which he successfully used his knife to defend himself.

Davy Crockett, an American icon, actually made a huge impact in American history. His early life and his background is interesting and may be unique to others. Crockett served the country in the US government. He is also one of the many heroes who died defending the Alamo. Davy Crockett’s early life may have helped him later in his life.

Jim Bowie was born in Logan County, Kentucky in 1796. Jim was the ninth kid out of ten and was born into a very weak; thy family. His family lived on a two hundred acre plot with lots of livestock and several slaves. Bowie was a well educated men and set off on his own. While traveling he built a strong reputation as a fighter and became famous for his fighting knife.

The point of my essay is to prove that Perry Smith does not deserve the death penalty but he deserves to be admitted to a psychiatric ward. For example, "'Most typically the men displayed a tendency not to experience anger or rage in association with violent aggressive action.”(Capote Page 190). That is one piece of evidence out of many that will help explain how sick Perry Smith really is.

James Bowie is one of few men of American folklore. With determination, strength, and strong personality James Bowie, also known as Jim Bowie, takes the true American spirit and shows what it be until his last breathe at the Alamo. James Bowie is an example of the true American spirit.

James Bowie is an ancestor of mine and I have always been intrigued with the history of his life. I also have been doing some research on the internet for the past few weeks.

A psychopath is a person suffering from chronic mental disorder with abnormal or violent social behavior. The Reverend Jim Jones was a psychopath who ultimately lead hundreds of people to their deaths in Guyana. Although never being diagnosed officially there are signs of behavior to point to Jim Jones being a psychopath and narcissist. Why were people so reluctant to follow him and teachings, especially those of different ethnic backgrounds. Jonestown was probably one of the biggest cults America has ever seen.

John Paul Jones could be called somewhat of an “unsung hero” of the American Revolutionary War. His name is probably not as well recognized as people such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Paul Revere, but he still played an important part in the Revolutionary War. He was an important figure in several naval battles that were part of the Revolutionary War. Some even argue that John Paul Jones is one of the greatest and bravest officers in the Continental Navy (Pavao 2014).

Frederick Douglass is the most famous African-American abolitionists and the greatest American orators. Throughout American history, African-Americans were victims of American governmental policies of harsh slavery. However, Frederick Douglass transforms the way people should understand slavery. He takes charge of upholding slavery to himself and defends the freedom for those in slavery. While other African-Americans did not have a voice, he became the voice for African-American slavery. In this way, Frederick Douglass is a mental and physical hero because of his courage and achieving freedom from slavery through his strength of character and education.

For example, Frederick Douglass was very a very courageous man, brave, and known today as a historical figure that escaped slavery and fought for equal rights for all people. As Robert Hayden says, “When it is finally ours, this freedom, this liberty, this beautiful and terrible thing, needful to man as air, usable as earth, when it belongs at last to all….” (SB70). As he says here that when freedom and liberty belong to all he can then rest, but until then he will work to strive to the best of his ability to earn equal rights for all people. When he was escaping slavery he said: “I felt like one who had escaped a den of hungry lions”. He had felt that he needed to escape as soon as possible or else he would end up dying there.

“Prior to the 9/11 attack, the tragedy at Jonestown marked the single largest loss of U.S. civilian lives in a non-natural disaster”(Jonestown Massacre 2). Jim Jones, a cult leader of the Peoples Temple, was responsible for the loss of the 900+ people that died in Guyana on November 18, 1978. Before all of this Jim Jones was a normal man living a life as a preacher who preached against racism. Throughout his life he was very popular by “currying favor with public officials and the media, donated money to numerous charitable causes and delivered votes for various politicians at election times”(History Staff). Jim Jones was a cult leader that preached to 900+ people of the Peoples Temple, made hundreds of people commit suicide, and made history of the biggest loss of U.S. civilians before 9/11.

     Andrew Jackson was born on March 5,1767 in south Carolina. When Jacksons father died they moved into the home of James Crawford. He went to frontier schools and got a reputation on being fiery tempered and willing to fight.("Jackson, Andrew," Microsoft® Encarta® Online Encyclopedia 2005

When the name John Smith is mentioned, people of all ages are familiar with it and could tell a lot about him. Why is this? How is it that a man who lived over 400 years ago still so popular today, more specifically to our children? The answer to that question is because John Smith can be viewed as one of America’s earliest heroes. His leadership was vital to the survival of the Jamestown colony. Most people are familiar with his famous quote, “he that will not work shall not eat.” He carried all the qualities of an influential leader, and even had a mystical legend with Pocahontas, in which no one truly knows what happened. His leadership characteristics and qualities possessed hard work, grit, and determination. He was an individualist that had an “American” dream. However, during his time, the colonists did not look at it as an “American” dream. Without him and his leadership, America may not be what it is today.
