These cute little rodents of desert survive without drinking water throughout their life. Named after their locomotion which resembles that of the larger Kangaroo; Kangaroo rats weigh 70-170 gram and vary in size but the largest species of kangaroo rat can reach 6 inches in body length with 8 inches of tail length. Living in scrublands or grasslands and in gravel and stony areas, Kangaroo rats live in dry areas and overcome the need of water by sustaining merely on the moisture content of seeds which constitutes most part of their diet but occasionally feed on insects or vegetation, they also lower their metabolic rates to conserve as much as water possible besides they don’t sweat so they don’t lose any water.
