Nelson Mandela, one of if not the most influential and peaceful people to have ever walked the earth. Good morning Mrs Green and my fellow nudgee students, today I am going to tell you about Nelson Mandela. Firstly Nelson Mandela had an extraordinary life with many ups and downs. Nelson was also a pacifist and throughout his life had to deal with much conflict because of this. Finally Nelson mandela showed many principles of human dignity and was a strong promoter of peace, you could even regard him as a role model for Christians.
Firstly, I will be talking about Nelson Mandela’s spectacular life. Nelson Mandela was born 18th of July 1918 in Mveso, Transkei, South Africa and became actively involved in the anti-apartheid movement in his 20s.
There are a lot of people in this world that have made change. One of those people is Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela created change in this world through civil disobedience by bringing South Africa out of apartheid.
Nelson Mandela was a role model, he went to jail for 27 years because he stood up to Government against african rights in africa. Even after being let loose from jail he continued his journey standing up for his rights,then later showed that he could be president and he did he won the election he was president from 1990 to 1994. Throughout the history of the humanity, there were many events happened that show of the courage of many people. After the story “ Unbroken” that tells us about Louis Zamperini and his story , we can see that he is an example of a courage person, beside that, Nelson Mandela is another examples of this characteristic. Nelson was the democratic leader that fought for justice and freedom in South Africa, he spend over 20 years in prison for the apartheid regime. But with his courage and smartness, he won against the racism and became the leader of the new South Africa. And In 1993, he received a Nobel Peace Prize for all that he did and contributed for the humanity.
Born to the world on July 18, 1918. Mandela's father Henry was a chief of the Tembu people. His mother was Nosekeni Fanny. When Nelson was around 9 years old his father died of tuberculosis. He was looked after by Jongintaba Dalindyebo, who was acting chief of Tembu
(Mandela 1). Nelson Mandela had a different method than most, as he used his platform to create change and give freedom and rights to his people. The text also says, “It is from these comrades in the struggle that I learned the meaning of courage… I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. I felt fear myself more times than I can remember, but I hid it behind a mask of boldness” (Mandela 4). One great characteristic of Mandela is that he had the ability to never show fear or doubt, no matter the circumstances, he always proved to be a leader and thus the reason he was able to accomplish so much. Finally, the text says, “I never lost hope that this great transformation would occur. Not only because of the great heroes I have already cited, but because of the courage of the ordinary men and women of my country” (Mandela 5). Mandela fought through the toughest of situations and even went to prison for 27 years, just for his people, and continued to fight for them and their rights. These individuals all had hopes and dreams for their people, and they put everything they had into making sure that they was accomplished.
Mandela had some major accomplishments. He won multiple award such as Nobel Peace Prize in 1993, Arthur Ashe Courage Award In 2009, Ambassador of conscience Award in 2006, Lenin Peace Prize in 1990, and Gandhi Peace Prize in 2001. His actions had a big impact in our society.He led a revolution against injustice from a prison cell and who overthrew his government that oppressed the people. He made history by turning his back on violence and standing up for equal rights for all
On a summer day in 1918, a boy child was born in a South African village. By his parents he was named Rolihlahla Mandela, but he would later be given the name Nelson by his teachers. This boy would grow into a man, who would grow into a movement which would shape the world. Nelson Mandela rose from his lowly roots in a traditional South African clan to be one of the most influential men in the world, a man who embodied both the fight for global freedom and humanities capacity for forgiveness.
Former president of South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Nelson Mandela achieved an incredible number of achievements during his lifetime. In 1943, Nelson enrolled at Witswaterand, a predominately white university, where he was exposed to people from different background and races. He was exposed to radical, liberal and Africanist thought, as well as discrimination and racism, it was during this time in Nelson’s life that he became interested in politics and also joined the African National Congress (ANC). In 1952, Mr. Mandela along with his partner Oliver Tambo, opened a law firm and began campaigning against apartheid, the system that oppressed the black majority devised by the all-white National Party. As the tension with the apartheid grew, Mr. Mandela went underground after the ANC was outlawed in 1960 following an event at Sharpeville when police shot dead 69 unarmed black protesters. The days of nonviolent resistance were over and the All-African National Action Council was formed with Mandela acting as honorary secretary, this militant organization used sabotage and other tactics to destruct government property as it continued the fight against apartheid. Someone might think a person could not serves years in prison for a lifetime. However, there was a man who served twenty-seven years of his life imprisoned his faith. However, he was not charged with the crime of murder or theft. He was charged with the crime of sabotage. That time, his faith that apartheid was wrong, was unfair, was opposite to the Africans and that his only crime based in the legal system in Africa. Nelson Mandela was an anti-apartheid activist and the leader of ANC (African National Congress’s). Because of his sabotage, Mandela served 27 years in prison, and spending many of these years on Robben Island. He experienced many hardships in prison. After he released from prison on 11 February 1990, Mandela sustained negotiation and reconciliation for the apartheid. He also won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. Nelson Mandela can be considered a hero because he portrayed forgiveness, persistence, and patience.

He earned more than 250 awards for his achievements, he is a model for ethics, politics and humanity. He changed the direction of his nation with his extraordinary determination.

Due to Nelson Mandela’s imprisonments, politics, and apartheid involvement, a strong motivation and lasting legacy of leading by example was brought forth.
Nelson ‘Rolihlahla’ Mandela was a South African activist, anti-apartheid, politician, philanthropist, President of ANC (African National Congress) and the first former black president of South Africa. He was also a member of the African national congress party in the 1940s, he was a leader to both of the peaceful protests.

He was the leader of one of the most incredible political transitions in human history. Mandela is known as one of the great moral and political leaders of our times; an international hero whose lifelong dedication to the fight against racial oppression in South Africa, won him the Nobel Peace Prize and the presidency of his country.
