My artist for this art project was Peter Max. He is from Berlin, Germany. He was famous in his life, and is still alive. Among other things, he is also a vegan, an environmentalist, and a human rights activist. The art style of Peter Max involves bold colors that seem to blend into each other.he has worked with several mediums such as painting, drawing,Etching, collage,video and mass media. His early styles are classified as psychedelic and counter culture but they later evolved into the popular movement of art pop. Peter Max uses a series of organic shapes and circles in his boldly colored backgrounds. The bold backgrounds move the light of the persons eyes to the center of the picture, and emphasize the often off colored center details.
In the essay "Who Would Peter be Today?", Ismael Estrada, the writer of the essay, talks about a student named Peter who committed suicide because he was bullied. He killed himself by shooting himself in the head. Estrada never actually bullied Peter but he never stopped it. Estrada also laughed at the taunts and the harsh words made. He reacted as most children do by going along with it. I was bullied as a child and I have friends that were also bullied. From what I've seen, heard and experienced other children are of accepting it, participating and intervening. I think all three of these reactions are common in children.
I have chosen Sally Mann as my artist as she is an extraordinary photographer that went against the grain to create something completely different. She has a strange way of making outstanding, personal imagery. She inspires my own work because of her ability to see things others would not.
A professional is a person who relates to a job that requires special education, training, or skill. Max Weber, in his theories believed that there was set qualifications that allowed a specific person to be regarded as a so called professional. When comparing 19th century baseball players to Weber’s ideals, this specific criterion which includes qualifications such as, full time occupation, clientele, promotions, power and doctrine, and vocational qualifications among many others help to decide whether these players can be considered professionals. According to Weber’s theory, baseball players mainly were not professionalized because they mainly lacked power, clientele, and salaries.
The Painting I chose is called “Mixtec Culture.” And it was painted by Diego Rivera in 1942, Mexico. It’s a Fresco style painting, which is “a wall painting technique that has been used for large scale murals since ancient times” (Getlein 159). This entire painting is an homage to the culture of Mexico, specifically the Mixtec people, and that’s what I love about it. The Mixtec people were renowned for their artwork so it’s fitting that Rivera depicts a peaceful community of artists such as mask and jewelry makers. Throughout history autocratic leaders have exercised authority over their countries and the lives of their people. The actions taken out by autocratic leaders have both helped and hurt their countries and the lives their people. Two examples of such leaders are Czar Peter the Great and King Louis XIV.
Next, Peter the Great reformed Russia by modernizing Russia’s military. Before he came to power, Russia’s army was amatuer and navy nearly nonexistent thanks to the lack of viable coastline. Since Russia lacked the knowledge and skill, he brought in foreign experts and encouraged his own soldiers to learn about shipbuilding in order to develop a strong navy (Doc 11). He established a standing army and abolished the Streltsi, bringing in European professionals to command the units. He acquired territory in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, went to war against the Ottoman Empire in order to access the Black Sea, and later defeated the Swedish army and establish the city of St. Petersburg on the Neva River; this was named Russia’s “window to Europe”.
I choose Elizabeth Catlett as my artist of choices because I really love her work and to me her art is like seeing her world back in the early 1900, which reminds me of my great grandmother’s stories of how she live and what she lived through. It has inspired my own work as I coutuon my journey in expanding my knowledge about the different forms, styles and people to help me shape my own artistic personality.
I drew inspiration from the creative indigenous cultures and the drama of the scenery. I painted many impressionist works of art during our travels. On our journey back we traveled through Santa Fe. On this journey I made contact with the artist community within the Museum of Mexico.
I am a member of the Butterfly Project Program. In class I painted a ceramic butterfly in memory of Yolanda Debax, a girl who died in the Holocaust.
Peter the Great ruled over Russia from 1682 to 1725. Known as a key force in the reformation of the Russian economy, and the country as a whole, Peter wished to bring his country into a new era. Up until his reign, Russia had been trapped in a medieval like state, cut off from its European neighbors; the Renaissance that revolutionized the rest of Europe had very little to no effect on the Russian government or its citizens. Peter realized that Russia could never be the world power that he wished it to be until they were on the same level as the rest of Europe. Seeing the dilemma, Peter left Russia for a period of time to travel Europe, work among the people of different nations, and study the cultures and governments of Russia’s neighbors.
The name of my art work selection is the Osiride statue of Senwosret I. It is a limestone statue from the Middle Kingdom also referred to as “The Period of Reunification” from 1961–1917 B.C. in Egypt. It can be found in gallery 110 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. When on the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s website, it can be easily found by typing the accession number of 09.180.529 into the search bar in the upper right hand corner.
Thesis: It is the intent of this paper to dig into the life of Peter and see just who this man that passionately followed Christ was. As we dig into the life of Peter we will examine his character strengths, his weaknesses, and overall how Peter was transformed by Christ. We will see how God took a man who more often than not acted without thinking and transformed him into a passionate follower who’s words we read today in God’s very words to us.
