After High School comes the “real world” where I have to find myself and choose something more than just a job. I want a career than can help me develop as a person. A career than can help me continue my education. Most people ask me why welding? My answer to them is why not welding? It is a career that involves hands on learning. I was never a person that could sit in a desk all day and do work. I need a career that will keep me on my feet and keep me learn with my hands. Welding represents the opportunity for me to continue educating myself, with incredible benefits, and a compatible salary. You would have to keep focus, have good eye sight, steady hands, good concentration to be a welder. I would like to think that I have majority of these traits, and I have a desire to get into this feild and be successful in it. I have alway been interested in welding sense I was a kid, everytime I came accross someone that was welding or was about to weld I would be drawn to watch them. Welding is a skill that is always in high demand and I could work anywhere in the country I have five people in my family; my mom, dad, older sister, and younger brother. My dad is a Japanese teacher at MEHS and also is the wrestling coach. My mom is the occupational therapist for the Sitka School District. My sister is a sophomore at University of Alaska Fairbanks. My little brother is an eighth grader at Blatchley Middle School.
Thinking back as a freshman in high school, I didn’t know what I wanted to do in life. Throughout my years in school I have discovered enjoyment in fusing metal together. Welding is a very meticulous career, to be a welder you have to be focused, careful and you have to have an extensive knowledge of the field to be successful. Welding requires a variety of skill sets. If a person has a variety of skills and experience doors will open up for positions such as: shipbuilding, automotive repair, and construction.
The only thing that is required to become a welder is a high school diploma but in order to get a step above the competition a welding license is highly suggested.
The purpose of this essay is to inform you of the career I have chosen for this project, pipeline welding. The reason I chose this career is because it seems like an easy way to make a living.
