We have all seen brutal movies and presentations based on racial injustices and the lack of equality. So often, we forget that these issues are still so present in our community. Racial diversity is something that is often discussed on college campuses. As a student who self-identifies as a minority in more ways than one I often feel like I have a pretty good understanding of the subject of racism and race. However, often times when these issue are discussed I learn something new; this was the case when reading the articles this week. This week’s articles examined the issue of race from different perspectives. This allowed me to re-examine the issue in a fuller manner; it also allowed me to question some of my own notions that I hadn’t really challenged before.

Yahoo announced in 2013 that it would no longer offer the option for employees to work remotely. Although technology has evolved and created the ability to work remotely, productivity can diminish if management is not in place to accommodate and support the endeavor. If implemented properly, companies can benefit from employees working remotely by realizing cost savings of office space and utilities, employee retention and broadening their candidate pool. However, working remotely will fail due to management oversite, not hiring the right people, and a lack of communication and collaboration between the company and its employees. In my opinion, Yahoo messed up…big time!

There are many Americans today that hold racial prejudice against people of different color and different ethnicity, which as a result narrows many opportunities that minorities can actually have. Introduction: Race has always been a major topic in American history, and it continues to be today. People are constantly fighting about race, but why? Why and how did race become such a big part of the United States of America’s political, economic, and social culture? And why is does it cause so much sectional division within the United States? Race has been such a controversial and major topic that, in order to end racial problems, a war had to be fought, court cases had to be won, and laws had to be passed banning it. The topic can be traced back to beginning of America’s history as the colonies, and can be followed through past the Civil War.

After Spending 16 weeks in African-Americans Equality and Law, I found that a problem relevant to race in today’s society is our inability to ask and answer racial questions. Because I saw this as a current issue, I made the decision to facilitate an open and honest discussion about race with a group of diverse Temple Students.

Throughout the history of the country, America has been considered a fairly racist union. From the workplaces to the society, as an Asian, I felt there's a strong barrier between white and black people, although I felt a little bit of racial among us. In this essay, I will talk about the major racial issue of this country through out my experiences.

American society likes to believe that race relations in our country are no longer strained. We do not want to hear about the need for affirmative action or about the growing numbers of white supremacist groups. In order to appease our collective conscious, we put aside the disturbing fact that racism is alive and well in the great U.S.A. It hides in the workplace, it subtly shows its ugly face in the media, and it affects the education of minority students nationwide. In the following excerpts from an interview with a middle class African American male, the reader will find strong evidence that race plays a major role in determining the type and quality of education a student receives.

Obtaining a college degree is ideal and expected in today’s society. Having attended and completed course work at a college institution can have an enormous effect on an individual’s life outcome. There are currently 2.2 million black students in college, with that being approximately 15% of the college population (Payne & Suddler, 2014). Black students’ enrollment in college has increased 5% over the past 40 years (U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics, 2015a). Although the Blacks students’ rate in college has increased it does not eliminate, nor decrease the challenges that comes with being a student.

They Say I Say is extremely useful in learning how to write argumentative papers because the authors discuss the “I say” of an argumentative paper by providing many real life examples and templates for new writers to experiment with. For example, on page 60, templates are provided for disagreeing with an argument and using reasoning. One of the templates reads, “X claims that ___ rests upon the questionable assumption that ___”(Graff). On page 62, templates for agreeing are presented, one of which is, “X is surely right about ___ because, as she may not be aware, recent studies have shown”(Graff). It is also expressed in this chapter that students feel uncomfortable agreeing with arguments made or disagreeing. On page 63 the authors also recognize

A major controversy encompassing the country is the issue of affirmative action. Many believe that the abolition, or at least restructure, of affirmative action in the United States will benefit the nation for many logical reasons. Originally, affirmative action began as an attempt to eliminate discrimination and provide a source of opportunity; affirmative action did not begin as an attempt to support just minorities and women. In addition, affirmative action naturally creates resentment when the less qualified are preferred instead of the people actually deserve the admission or job. Another reason that has existed since the abolition of slavery is the myth that women and ?minorities? cannot compete
