In the United States one of the most controversial issues is the laws dealing with gun control. The issues resolving the topic of gun control are these mass shootings that are emerging close to everyday. The most recent issue is the attack on Las Vegas. Many people believe that gun control laws are the main issue. There are many leading factors as to why the United States has so many issues regarding the topic of guns, but gun control laws might not be the main factor. On October 1st, 2017, a lone gunman opened fire into a large crowed attending a country concert. The man legally owned all the weapons in his possession, including attachments that made the rifle seem to be automatic, which is not the problem. The issue is legalizing these attachments that can make a rifle seem to be automatic, mass amounts of ammunition, the amounts of gun, and how the gun man brought all these weapons into his apartment without being detected. The factors that lead up to his mass violence attack should have been stopped before he stepped foot into the building. There is also the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that should have been stopped at the doors of the school. The United States security system is one of the worst around, and yet people are blind to the fact that the security issue is the main factor for these mass shootings. Gun ownership has always been around even before the United States was born. The Second Amendment protects the rights for
President obama said at a press conference on October 01, 2015 “The solution to such violence is obvious. It cannot be this easy for somebody who wants to inflict harm on other people to get his or her hands on a gun.” (Simple Minded Gun Control). Gun control is a controversial issue worldwide. The reason why this has attracted so much attention is because not everyone is in favor of gun control and each side brings up excellent points about the issue. Research related to this issue strongly supports the claim that there SHOULD be more gun control laws. Three arguments that prove this position are (1) Incidents like Sandy Hook will be less likely to occur (2) It reduces the high rates of accidental deaths (3) As the years pass by and technology updates the laws should be up to date as well. Members from the National Rifles Association state that No law-abiding American should be forced to face evil with empty hands. I say I agree with President Obama there SHOULD be more gun control laws because it should not be as easy as it is for someone who wants to inflict harm on others to get their hands on a weapon.
News is all around us and is readily available to everyone. There are many flaws in the system that hurts the authenticity of the news when you see it. The media is indirectly part of the political system. Most news is either considered liberal or conservative by many.
Gun control in the United States has been a controversial issue for some time now. So much so that the Supreme Court even refuses to address this issue directly. Gun control really boils down to the the Second Amendment of the Constitution. Many people have different interpretations of the Second Amendment and the trenches are dug in deep on this issue. The Second Amendment can not provide the right to bear all types of arms to protect the people from governmental tyranny. If the Second Amendment was absolute, then we would allow the public to possess nuclear weapons, missiles, and other such arms, because like the 9 mm handgun that is an arm, a nuclear warhead is also a type of arm. The more our government restricts our rights to own
The second amendment gives people the right to own a firearm. The founding fathers might have thought a gun was the best form of protection but many years have past since then and humans have evolved. Times are different and society is different. Technology has a big impact on people and how we think and all those variables can affect people with how they react in stressful situations. We have to consider the mental stability of those in possession of the weapons, it is important to keep the weapon away from loved ones or other people, and is the law protecting those in possession of the weapons or putting lives in more danger.
It seems like every time we hear about a violent crime involving firearms the focus is turned to gun control. This has turned the issue of gun control into a major debate in our nation. When it comes to taking a side on the issue many people decide completely on an emotional level instead of looking at the issue rationally. People think that solving violent crimes involving guns is as easy as taking away the guns. How do you go about taking guns away if that is the solution, or what will the effects be of taking guns away from people who don’t use them for crime? The lack of information on this issue leads to an unequal view on gun control and can completely distort the ability of that individual to be able to take a rational stand on the
“Gun violence has significantly decreased in the past 20 years. Violent gun crimes and violent crimes in general have been decreasing since the early 1990s...” according to James Jacobs a director of Center for Research in Crime and Justice at New York. There are many misconceptions about gun violence some pro-gun control supporters want you to believe like almost twice the amount of gun violence related deaths are actually suicides by guns because suicide is illegal. Another misconception is “Assault” rifles are super advanced but there only normal rifles with “military like” features such as bayonets or pistol grips. Laws and policies from other places would not work in the U.S. There are many other reasons why you should support anti-gun control.
These are innocent children and teachers that are being killed by lunatics carrying a gun. Adam Lanza was the shooter in the Sandy Hook shooting that killed twelve students, six school employees, and his mother. Adam had many untreated disorders such as anxiety, excessive-compulsive disorder, anorexia, and aspergers. This proves that if we had stronger background checks this may never have happened. The gun sellers simply don't care about who is buying their guns, all they care about is making money. Adam was also using an AR-15 which is an assault weapon that should be outlawed for civilians. James Holmes was responsible for the mass movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado. This shooting killed 12 people and injured 70 others. Experts say the reason why James shot up the movie theater was because he had an untreated schizophrenia disorder. In these two incidences the killers were able to get guns, even though they were mentally ill. They were guilty of the crimes, but sometimes our Judicial System will find them innocent for reasons of insanity and may eventually be let back into society. The senseless shootings might all be prevented with more thorough background
"I have a very strict gun control policy: if there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it."
The problem with guns is fairly obvious: they decrease the difficulty of killing or injuring a person. In Jeffrey A. Roth's Firearms and Violence (NIJ Research in Brief, February 1994), he points out the obvious dangers. About 60 percent of all murder victims in the United States in 1989 (about 12,000 people) were killed with firearms. Firearm attacks injured another 70,000 victims, some of whom were left permanently disabled. In 1985, the cost of shootings was an estimated $14 billion nationwide for medical care, long-term disability, and premature death. In robberies and assaults, victims are far more likely to die when the perpetrator is armed with a gun than when he or she has another weapon or is unarmed.
The definition of gun control is “the set of laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms by civilians.” With the horrific events that have occurred lately in our country, I believe that the laws on gun control are not strict enough. There are only a handful of people who cannot possess a gun, leaving millions of other individuals with the ability to own a firearm. Almost anyone can buy a gun, but not just “anyone” should be allowed to have one.
Civilian gun ownership has been debated, banned, allowed, and limited for as long as firearms have been used as a weapon against another human. Many arguments have been proposed over time about why civilians should, or should not be afforded the right to bear arms. What seems to be the most common modern opposition is that there is truly no need for civilians to own a gun, in this day and age. Many who oppose guns simply think less guns, less gun violence. However, Americans have always had the right to bear arms. There are millions of law abiding Americans that use the right to bear arms for various reasons, including: hunting, sport shooting, self-defense, and the simple reason of they can. Whatever the reason for, or against the right to bear arms there is still a looming issue in America, and that issue is gun violence. 2014 statistics show that “67.9 percent” of murders, along with “40.3 percent of robberies, and 22.5 percent of aggravated assaults” that were committed in America were done so with a firearm of some sort (Federal Bureau of Investigation, 2014). A go-to solution for this is to create stricter gun legislation in an effort to limit who can sell, purchase, own, and carry firearms. As well as, what guns and gun accessories can be bought, sold, and possessed. All in an effort to reduce gun violence. However, gun control is not the solution to gun violence because gun bans only harm law abiding citizens, gun laws
Guns are there a right to all American citizens, or are they an out of date way of defense. In this paper you will find many examples of how guns are a right for Americans. Also necessary way of defense.
In recent years, gun control has become a pressing issue in America. The number of killings and mass shootings have been higher than ever. Yet, the new argument has been over guns on college campuses. This argument came to play as a result of the success of gun activists in legalizing firearms for students and faculty on college campus throughout the United States. These gun laws allow students age twenty one and older and faculty to be given the proper training and carry a firearm or concealed weapon on a campus. The laws differ depending on the state, some allow firearms everywhere and some states have restrictions. However, all schools must have areas where weapons are not allowed, like football stadiums or health clinics where there
In my government and economics class, an assignment was given to decide whether we were pro-gun control or not. Choosing a side was burdensome and I didn't want to favor the side with less supporting details. As I did my research, it led me to choose pro-gun. I researched other viewpoints about this complicated controversial topic. I agree with those that believed obtaining guns is a way to keep yourself and your loved ones safe. I started off my essay implying that I was pro-gun and having possession of a gun is necessary. Also, stricter gun control laws are not necessary because the laws do not deter crime. I developed various types of questions such as "What kinds of guns should be banned? How easy is it to obtain a gun? Are more gun control laws necessary? Do mass shootings differ from other types of gun violence?".
Lately, there has been a controversy about gun control due to gun crime. Now, there has been an uprising of conversation about the carrying of guns on college campuses. Guns should not be allowed on college campuses because it is very dangerous. There’s alternative self-defense, professors/students would feel unsafe at school and be frightened, and some people are not mentally stable or are immature.
