Respect and Integrity in the Military Essay

I have learned that the army is all about making the right choices and doing the right thing so if anything makes sure that you are always doing what is right. I for one have been late a few times and now I have to make sure that I take care of that so that I can keep my rank and not lose anything. The right thing for me to do is I will make sure that I have an alarm clock set for the time I need to be up and to better myself to get up as soon as it goes off. Then I will make sure that I am getting a good amount of sleep so that I can get up on time and not be late or dragging while I am at work. I have done so well I just need to be more attentive in what I am doing and make sure that I have my things in order and that I am prepared for everything that comes my way. It’s time to set aside the differences have against me and be a leader by example if people see me showing up whenever they will do the same thing. So now I have to make sure that I lead by example and not by sub standards because in the long wrong I will be in charge of soldiers and don’t want them to think that they can just show up whenever or talk to NCO’S any way they want. Which brings me to my last part respect in order for soldiers to want to respect anybody you have to show that you are contributing to the work that is going and not just sitting there

Respect is to “Treat people as they should be treated.” Every soldier is responsible for treating other people with dignity and respect. As Soldiers we pledge to treat others with respect and dignity while not expecting anything in return. Respect allows us to appreciate what our Army leaders and Friends do for us. Respect is to have trust that people will fulfill their duties and accomplish what is expected of them. Respecting ones self is an important factor of the Army value of respect. We, the United States Army are one team and we each have something to contribute. What is respect? Respect has numerous forms. It can be self-awareness, character, understanding, trust, honesty, and a positive attitude. Respect must be earned. If someone does not respect himself or herself then they are not able to respect others. To gain respect you must treat others the way you would want to be treated, as you have heard many times before. If a unit lacks respect it cannot have teamwork and sympathy for the well being of others. It creates devotion to the success of the team. Respect goes both ways up and down the chain of command. A leader must respect his or her soldiers as their soldiers must appreciate the sacrifices and skills their superiors and vice versa. by respecting the people around you with effort, and in time soldiers come to respect each other.

Respect is the integrity that one takes upon oneself in order to carry out the orders of the officers appointed over the service member. You must respect superior because they are your senior. Their actions determine the capabilities of a unit and their overall accomplishment of an operation. A senior commander is not just any person given a rank and job. They go through vigorous training to become the person they are. Through classes, training, and experiences they gain.

Integrity is defined as "the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness". Most people define integrity as doing what is right, legally and morally. To be willing to do what is right even no one is looking. Integrity is our "moral compass". The Army mentions Integrity as one of its core values because it requires that you do and say nothing that deceives others. As your integrity grows, so does the trust others place in you. The more choices you make based on integrity, the more this highly prized value will affect your relationships with family and friends, your soldiers and, finally, the fundamental acceptance of yourself. I think disrespect is one of the biggest issues in the united states military. Respect is something everyone wants, not many have, and few want to give. Unfortunately, respect is not something that is given all the time. Maybe this is because respect is not clearly understood. What is respect? The Webster’s Dictionary defines it as an act of giving particular attention or high or special regard. Another definition shows respect as a feeling or attitude of admiration and deference toward somebody or something. And disrespect is defined as the lack of respect. This does not explain completely what it is, but at least it gives us an idea about what it may be. As a matter of fact, there are many forms of respect. There is physical respect.

Being late does not make one important. Tardiness is a very unattractive quality when it comes to most aspects of one’s life: family functions, meetings, interviews, and especially a job. While a family may forgive tardiness, a job will not. Being late once or twice in one’s life is unavoidable. Being consistently tardy makes one unreliable and shows a lack of respect for other people’s time and obligations. Being late tells others that one person can be waited on, while everyone else can’t. People do not like when their feelings were not taken into consideration, when they took the time to consider others.

What is accountability? The Army definition is: The obligation imposed by law or lawful order or regulation on an officer or other person for keeping accurate record of property, documents, or funds. The person having this obligation may or may not have actual possession of the property, documents, or funds. Accountability is concerned primarily with records, while responsibility is concerned primarily with custody, care, and safekeeping. However, the way I see accountability is the responsibility of keeping track of the equipment or personnel assigned to you. Accountability is a big thing in the military because it ties in with responsibility and duty. That obviously makes it an important topic, no matter your rank. No

We must see that potential. We all need respect, regardless of how immature and gay we behave. We all need others to see our potential and honor it to better encourage us to grow into it. Some respect sound judgement, some strength or power. Some respect altruism, some purposefulness. Parents and teachers may provide initial guidance but what you respect in a person is ultimately your privilege. A Privilege. However skewed my opinion might be the fact is that in most cases respect is earned by the actions towards an individual. All that being said the military works a little different. Respect in the military is demanded of you by your Superior Officers, NCOs and others of same rank that have three months more salt on there collar. This is where not so much the definition but the reason it is given can get shifty. It is when one must absolutely show respect without the normal necessity of actually respecting that person specifically. You are respecting the title held by a male or female that is above you, normally by a pay grade or 4 and in the Commissioned Officers case, on a whole different level than you are as an enlisted man. Not to say that one cannot find an Commissioned Officer or Non Commissioned Officer that actually deserves it for his or her character traits. In our profession as leaders in the military we are held to a set of values that includes integrity. While the Army defines integrity as doing what’s right, legally and morally. We also believe that the quality of a great leader must include integrity. Having integrity will ensure that we make the best decision and do what is best for our organization. In addition, by having integrity it helps us as leaders to earn the trust of our subordinates. From an everyday civilian to joining the military and currently deployed, the military has noticeably impacted my virtues. Before I enlisted into the Air Force, I was a high school graduate with no aspiration, no guidance, and spent most of my time playing video games and working at a fast food restaurant. Respect is all we should give people who serve our country. At least that is what we're told. President Trump sent out a tweet that really confused me in many ways.He stated that trans people would not be able to participate in the armed forces. This makes me really upset because a person's gender and or sexual orientation should not be affecting anyone else. According to Chelsea Manning, “terrible discriminatory laws are targeting trans people.” This in fact would be one of them. This would not only take away their right to serve but also take away their healthcare and employment. The importance of integrity in the army is a steadfast, core value that is expressed in terms of constancy and consistency. As professionals in the military, we must practice high standards of integrity. Leaders and subordinates alike need a high level of integrity within the working environment on or off the battlefield. It is integrity that is the glue holds the relationships of all soldiers together. Without integrity or a lack thereof, the relationship is impossible. In other words, a lack or perceived lack of integrity can have a devastating effect on the military profession. Along with integrity, there is trust. One needs to trust that their counterpart, superior, or subordinate that they will exercise integrity in any given situation.

Nobody is respected for the position they are born in. Respect is something that is earned by willing to put in work to achieve your goals. When someone asks me why I’m trying to be a surgeon, I don’t tell them I want to help people. I do want to help
