A good school is an environment which provides relationships and governance structures that enable children to grow to their full potential, become compassionate, responsible, creative and thoughtful individuals (Tiwari, 2014). The use of paradigm in schools will improve the learning process of the learner since it is a controlling perspective that allows one to perceive and understand reality. It is of great importance that teachers know and understand the different paradigms they can use in the classroom to make sure that teaching and learning takes place.
This writing will be based on the paradigms I observed at the school where I was doing my practical last semester. I will first discuss the role of paradigms in general, the

3.1. Contextualisation of my observation
It is a primary school situated in a township. It has four blocks of classrooms; each block has eight classes. Three buildings of toilet, one for girls, one for boys and one for teachers. It has an admin building with offices of the principal and HODs. The school is fenced with a lockable gate. There is a security guard, he also has a small house near the gate. The population of the school is mainly blacks. The school has an enrolment of 1280 learners (800 girls and 480 boys. It also consists of 32 level one teachers, four HODs, one principal, two admin clerks and two garden workers. The educators are females and one male. There are four ladies who works in the kitchen cooking for leaners. It has an assembly area in from of the admin building, parking lot and a playground. The school starts at twenty to eight and ends at two o’clock from Monday to Thursday and on Friday its ends at one o’clock but teachers must be at the school at quarter past seven to open the classroom because learners are not allowed to go to assembly with their bags and to settle in and be ready for the day. On Thursday afternoon its sports day, teachers and learners wear sports clothes. On Mondays, the teachers gather at the staffroom for a prayer and the briefing. The learners have assembly every day
The size of the premises and the outdoor space should be planned according to the number of pupils. If the outdoor space for example is not enough to be used
During the school visit, many of the teachers expressed the high expectations they have not only for the students, but for themselves also. They used methods and resources, which engage students’ interest and accelerate their progress as well. Students are provided with interesting tasks and activities, which stimulate higher order thinking skills. The relationships are excellent and students respond to their teachers as well. As far as assessment, students of all abilities are addressed equable along with self-assessment and peer group assessment. The teachers are pleased with their strong curriculum, therefore; they are successful in motivating students and developing their independent learning and personal qualities. In addition, the quality of leadership and management is outstanding. The principal has distributed leadership responsibilities effectively throughout the staff; consequently, there is effective teamwork in within the school activities and staff turnover is
Before the children come to school, I will give myself thirty minutes for planning. During my planning time, I will review my day’s plans and ensure I have all necessary materials are available to the children. When the children arrival to school, I will greet them and assist them if need with storing their belonging. Breakfast will be prepared for the children with serving bowls to sever themselves. When the children are finish eating breakfast, the quite centers, such as math and manipulatives and literacy centers, will be available for the children to enter. At nine o’clock I will signal for the children to store their materials away and we will transition to having our group meeting. During our group meeting, we have an open discussion
In “Project Classroom Makeover” by Cathy Davidson, has many great ideas and facts about why should the school system should change. Although i may agree in some points as like the school system is working as a factory. I believe that changing some aspects like the way we learn things can and may keep the kids coming to school. For example, in my classes some of my classmates struggle the way the teacher teaches us so when they ask for my help i have tried different methods and it works. They start to understand instead of struggling but that’s because i didn’t choose to teach it the same way as the teacher. And with this experience i noticed that teaching the same way all the time won’t work students will be struggling because they learn in
Average size of a class is 22 students. They have 44 clubs and sports, they have produced 60
Many schools are now organizing school day schedules to maximize instructional time and minimize non-instructional time, such as recess (Pellegrini & Bohn, 2005). Schools made this shift in response to increased state testing and the associated pressures of funding. Some also believe that the shift to more instructional time and less non-instructional time was worsened with the adoption of Common Core standards in elementary schools. However, this may not be the best move for schools or for long-term student success.
In a diverse classroom each student will be attended based on their individual need and teachers will meet each child at their level. Student will be treated equally regardless of their cultural background or socioeconomic status. By providing a good classroom management system, we will have a respectful and inclusive class culture. Establishing good classroom routines is essential to creating a positive environment for students to focus on learning. The follow sections cover those routine in our class
When the student arrives into the classroom they should enter quietly, get their work from their cubbies, and wait patiently on the teacher to give instructions if not told before they sit down in a seat on the correct side of the room. When class starts they will start off with a warm up on the lesson that is planned for the day/week or review from the previous lesson to make sure everyone is on the right place. No one will be judged on their class work from other peers that are in the group as well. As a class they will learn to help each other when he or she is struggling or behind on a lesson. After all the class work is done they can go use the restroom if need be, but if not, they are to work on their sight words, read a book, or to finish up any work for a different class that needs to be complete. Reason for the warmups and the extra reading I want to encourage the students to improve their reading and math skills, so they can improve their testing scores, so they will not have sit in another classroom without their
Paradigms are an intellectual or theoretical view of a discipline based on universal beliefs and values shared by the practitioners. Paradigms are important in any discipline in that they help to answer questions and concerns of the discipline, shape practice, concept, and aid the formation of guidelines. Other
The first setting I observed was a Pre-Kindergarten setting. The first thing I noticed was how the teacher set up routines for her students. These routines can include hanging up their coat\ backpack, placing their lunches in a bin and starting their morning work for the day. The teacher assigns her students morning work and this week’s included writing practice. Each child was given a sheet of paper to trace with their name on it. Many of the students came into the classroom late, which gave the students a disadvantage because it did not allow them enough time to finish their work. After their morning work, the class met for a morning meeting. Morning meeting usually includes the discussion of the months of the year, days of the week, the weather, songs about what they have
This is very different from what supervision has been in the past. I plan to use this approach to help me to develop a successful school atmosphere, where teachers and administrators collaborate and reflect in order to best meet the needs of students. This will guide the professional development and staff meetings at my school. It will also guide how I evaluate and communicate with teachers. I believe this approach is very balances and can help make a school equally
Alta-Aurelia high school students should have recess. Recess will be during study hall, students will have to ask their study hall teacher and teachers will have to check their grades. Students will try to leave the school grounds, Students will fight more often, and they will do dirty acts like holding hands, hugging, kissing, and other dirty things. If the students try to leave they will be fined. There will be a teacher on site. It's completely optional, so you don't have to go. Students will have to have their work done if they want to go
This public school sees education as a collective activity; where educators recognize students’ knowledge and challenge their perceptions. In order to do so, teacher should be able to teach with social justice, and provide a safe environment that allows students to read the world. The aim is to enhance the cognitive skills of students through material that reflect current events in society to make scholars gain a critical perspective about their surroundings. Giving the manner in which educational content is going to be address, the school will have 6th to 12th grade (middle school and high
The Educational Spectrum, by John P. Miller is a chapter which places emphasis on the different curriculum orienations through theoretical and practical levels. The orientations discussed within the chapter comply to the process of teaching and learning which enables educators to develop a teaching philosophy. Through The Educational Spectrum, Miller successfully provides readers with concrete description of the orientations along with examples displaying the importance and value in the concept. The chapter begins with Miller exploring the similarities of teachers and psychologist arguing that both professions share similar valuable orientations which have ability to influence children.
The working week lasts for 5 days. The school day usually lasts from 9:00 to 15:30, with a lunch break in between. Although counterintuitive in UK paid schools are called ‘public schools’ and free are called ‘state’ schools. However for the purposes of this essay I will name schools which are paid – private, which are free - public. They take the primary school graduates with different levels of mental abilities. They were organized with the aim of creating equal opportunities for education. In grammar schools the child receives a general upper secondary education. The principle of differentiated curriculum serves as the basis of teaching at this type of schools. High School is completed by successfully passing the GCSE exams (General Certificate of Secondary Education).
